Ben Cousins best was better, Black has Cousins on longevity.

Very hard to split the two, I have Cousins simply for how many times he dragged WC across the line to a win.

This poll has been done a year or so ago and even after 300-400 votes, it was literally neck and neck, not a vote between them.

Both absolute elite players, I think Cousins absolute best shades Black and he can be more dynamic but im a WC fan so im bias.

I agree. Just gave it to Black but not with conviction.

V good poll though, both elite. Bartel v Cousins recently posted didn't make sense

Agree with this.

He had a rare combination of outstanding endurance and workrate but also phenomenal decision making.

Rarely are these sort of players able to hurt you as frequently and cunningly as Cousins could. Yes he accumulated stats but was usually punishing with each one, not from a 60m boot like Hodge, or break away pace like Judd, just read the play superbly and was very clever disposing of the ball.

In our 05/06/07 period, was always confident of a win if Cousins really started to lift.

After Juddamania in 03/04, the way Cousins lifted again to a whole other level to remind everyone just who was the best player at WC was absurd. He really is a great of the game. Black though is also very good but Cousins best is up there with the greats.

Black was the best player in one of the most dominant teams ever seen, whereas Cousins was made great by playing alongside Judd who shouldered soo much attention.

BTW, how is it that Cousins is being made to look better but not Black?

Cousins was an exceptional player before Judd, Kerr, Cox etc. clicked.

Also, whilst WC as a whole was not on the same level as Brisbane, it probably had one of the greatest midfields of the modern era.

Facts are both are guns. In my subjective opinion Cousins best was better but Black has been more durable. This is probably reflected in the greater amount of individual accolades that Cousins won.

it's called an opinion & they are all subjective.

if you want me to admit that Judd at west coast was the best player going around, i will do it. he was amazing. he used to have taggers one, two & three focussed on him so the rest of the amazing wc midfield were able to shine even more brightly.

i never said that Cousins was not an excellent player. clearly he was. but it was just as clear in my eyes that he benefited from the presence of Judd (as have all of Judd's team mates) more than most.
yes he was excellent before Judd was there, but it was the very presence of Judd which elevated Cousins' standing.

Black on the other hand whilst not Judd like in style had a similar effect, albeit not as pronounced in that he was the driving force at Brisbane.

These are two that i think don't quite get the recognition they deserve. Absolute superstars up there with voss and buckley for mine. Cousins was probably better or his best was better but black is still gunning along too close to call. Maybe cuz just but im biased.

I'd take Black's career. Different players, could choose either without much distress.
