No there is a difference between being addicted to drugs and trying to sort yourself out, compared with turning up to training pingin off your face. You would be surprised at the amount of players who take drugs. I have personally seen current carlton.

I have not seen or read anywhere where Judd has come out and said he would like to have Cousins aboard. Anyone else?
I believe that the conditions are so strict that if he is still using he will be caught pretty early in the piece. God knows they will be all over him.
Any club giving him a 2nd chance can work the angle to make them look good and shouldn't be damaged if he comes unstuck. "We gave Ben a second chance but unfortunately he still isn't over the problem, blah blah blah", what damage does that do?
The guy is a champion footballer and would be enormous to any club that picks him up.
Without the problem, if entering the draft he would be a top shelf selection.
Drafting him would also take some pressure of the young guys and the high expectations put upon them, through a degree of deflecting the media attention.
Draft him and cut him if he stuffs up. He would look great in #9, But that's just my thoughts.
Cousins is a loser!
Judd wont have him at the club.
The club is on the right track and doesnt need a time bomb to send it back to the stone age.
Cousins will put more pressure on the kids.. as he will attract daily attention from the media...
You cant draft Cousins and be unnacountable when it goes belly up... jus watch StKilda.. they think theyre going to do the same thing...
I hear all this talk about risks and I really see them being pretty minimal. Look at the stringent conditions the AFL have placed on him. There's is no room for him to hide, he simply can't fall back to those old days. Have Harvey be a mentor to the guy, there's no one better to make sure he'll toe the line.
On the field there is no question on how he'll perform. This is not recycling a player that never proved anything. This is a brownlow medallist, premiership player, all australian. You don't just lose your skill and the worst we could do is have him playing off the bench.
I've already conceded that we won't go after him. That being said it's not going to be such a bad thing, as most people seem it may be, if he did get picked up by us.Time to let the dream die mate...
Your trying to apply logic to a totally illogical thing in addiction. People are loving the idea of a resurrected ben Cousins, but the reality with any addiction is that failure rate is high.
Secondly...the guy is the wrong side of thirty, with the best part of two years out of the game. He might still be handy, he might even be very good, but he will never get back to where he was and we are not in a position to be managing highly paid veterans off the bench.
Let the Saints have him I say.
That was my original question, where has Judd come out and stated this?
If the guy is allowed to play again by the AFL, they will take most of the heat, what ever club takes him on shouldn't wear too much, they just followed the AFL's lead and gave the guy a fair go, which he didn't take.
How can anyone be sure about the fact that he
A. Will Re-offend.
B. Is a so called "time bomb" as you say.
Do you know him and where his state of mind and his addiction are at?
If he is together and clean, he would be the pick up of the century and no-one would argue with that.
Leave a 40 million a year business to the realists...
There is no way he can be the pick up of the century.....
His state of nmind is such he didnt submit himself to a full drug test....
So i know his drug problems arent fixed....
And have you tried giving up ciggies????
Its a second to second ... minute to minute... hour to hour... day to day... week to week... month to month... year to year prospect...
I think youd have to be completely naive to beieve a 10 year druggie can just fick the habit just like that....
Adiction is a demon.... and its not something you can just remedy...
Cousins will be a drug addict for the rest of his life.. even if he says "no"!!
I think some people like to believe in fairytales... if youre one.. try a Hand Christian Anderson book,.....!!!
Leave a 40 million a year business to the realists...
I am a realist and simply floated the idea for discussion mate, so you can get off the high horse.
You seem to know him personally by the sound of things, so we will all just take your word for things.
As for the pick up of the century line, I did state categorically if he was clean and his mind was right.
How many brownlow medallists have been picked up as a reject, not many and mate he looks pretty fit.
Ask the Swans how he tore them a new one upon his return after his initial lay off?
I am not a fairytale reader mate, but Ben Cousins wasn't a fictional player either last time I saw him.
I will leave the running of the AFL to the AFL.
Not that I'm for Cousins playing for us..... but those saying it's a bit suss about him shaving his head... just so you know.. Fev has shaved off his hair too.. as has Gibbs... should we be suspicious about them too?

*You did state "clean of mind" but you dont understand addiction.... do you???
*If Cousins was clean of mind he would have subitted a single 3 cm hair for scrutiny.. he didnt did he??
*Williams won a premiership as a reject...... actually he won 2 premierships as a reject and could have won himself 3...
Libba is another.....
*Cousins is a fictional character.. and he lives in his on mind as an overinflated opinion of himself...
*AND that is why there are not too many clubs willing to take him on.. even though he tore "Sydney a new one"
We don't have to find anything in our hearts ..the bloke is 30 years old and a known druggie ..he was the person who decided to take the drugs ..nobody forced it upon him ...he made his bed, let him lie in it ..and keep him away from our club .Everyone just note that 6 AFL listed players are on 2 strikes at the moment on the AFL drug code... what if at least one of those players were a Carlton listed player.. how would you feel?
Cousins screwed up monumentally, also seems to have the personality of one that is a a sociopath.... but in saying that a lot of AFL players are shaving their heads and waxing their bodies these days... Fev at the moment has a shaved head and no other hair apparent on his body either.. as has Gibbs, Murphy and Cloke I believe. It seems to be the latest footballer look, probably done more so to stick their noses at the AFL for asking for a hair sample now as well.
Just give the guy a second chance who knows... we gave Angwin and Norman a second chance and sure it failed but what if it didn't? They'd be better people for it and so would the club... but we've just got to find it in our hearts to just hope for Ben's sake that he is recovering successfully.

If he was a hack footballer you wouldn't be finding anything in your heart![]()
What are you talking about !!!
Who the hell was that playing all those games and getting his Brownlow then?
He has been given the okay by the controlling body to play. If he was asked to supply the hair sample and didn't he wouldn't have been readmitted. He will be stringently tested and asked for the hair sample. If he cannot supply the hair sample, they have stated that he will be suspended.
I like most believe it is a bit suss he shaved down, but they will want 4 samples per year or no play, so if he isn't clean it will be found out sooner or later.
He may well 'always' be a drug addict, but unless he is caught in the testing he can continue to play like all the other drug takers in the world of sport.
As for the two "rejects" you quoted.
Williams was rejected by the Blues originally but certainly wasn't a brownlow medallist at that time, then went to the Cats until signed by the Swans, then left the Swans and signed to become a Blue.
and Libba, won his brownlow after years at the Dogs,
Both weren't brownlow medallists when they were recycled.
Anyway, last time I looked it was a forum, so I will have my opinion, no matter what you choose to write and you can spend time with those imaginery friends of yours, talking about the state of mind of drug addicts.
Neither of us will determine whether any club will take Cousins and I am sure those courting him have a 100% better idea about his state of addiction and state of mind than you or anyone else on BF.
