In the light of today's events, I think this thread is due for one of the all time greats.

I would like to sincerely thank Ben for the outstanding service he has provided to the Adelaide Football Club. He has been one of the best, most consistent players to ever wear a Crows jumper and his leadership and on field perfomances will be missed.

I am sad it had to end this way but Ben can be extremely proud of what he has achieved in his career. There aren't many players that have achieved what Ben has and for that I am extremely grateful.

So once again, a big thank you to Ben Hart for all the great memories he has provided us with over the years and I wish him all the best in the future no matter what he decided to do :thumbsu:

Round 1 1992 – Adelaide vs. Footscray at Football Park

The Sunday mail headline – Andrew Jarman “we’ll maul the doggies” and the debut of young Ben Hart.

Bit hard to swallow really, champion player with the AFC, has always been there and this is a very sad day, good luck to him for the future and thanks for the memories:thumbsu: :D

RIP No 34:(

One of the greats. Well done on an amazing career Benny!

Bloody champion!

I would have preferred they let him play on for one more season, as when he was fit this year he was on fire, but the Club needs to make tough, unfair decisions at times, and this is one of them.

I'm very sad we won't get to see Benny anymore, he was another who was a champion on and off the field - hopefully he ends up in a Coaches role.

True legend not only of our footy club, but the AFL as a whole. Its a sad day for the club but I do hope that he stays around as a mentor/coach to the younger guys, because some of them do need it.

Ben Hart, A true champion of our champion game:thumbsu:

in what way?
Players are expected to show loyalty to the club.
Go back a year ago when Fergus did a runner. Look how much whinging there was then.
Why then is it okay for the club to show no loyalty at all to a player who has given nothing but loyalty to his club since 1991? He's a legend and he deserves a proper retirement. He is still a brilliant player and was in great form prior to his injury. I have heard and understand the argument that our list is getting older and older and players have to start retiring, but there had to be a better way of going about it than this.
It's a disgrace.

how has he been denied a proper retirement? and do you think he should've been offered a contract when the club have deemed undeserving?

Fantastic career Benny. I remember back in the Shaw apocalypse of 1995-96 going to The Crows Show at Channel 7 studios in Gilberton, and Harty was a guest. After the show was more than happy to have a bit of a kick of the footy in the carpark with a few of us kids. A true gentleman.

Thanks for the memories Harty, now lets see the #34 be retired for 5 years, would be a fitting tribute after a magnificent career.

After his 300th, I'm pretty sure that Bill Sanders said at the crows shed that the #34 guernsey would be retired for five years.
