I was reading an article before about Ben Hart wanting to play on next season. In the article, it mentioned Geelong was interested in drafting him. Since Thompson needs to deliver next season, he would be desperate to win a flag next season to stay on as coach. Hart has a lot of experience (300+ games, played in winning Grand Finals, All-Australian), but he is turning 33 next year. Could he help us and also, do Geelong need another medium/tall defender?

I reckon Hart has another year or two left in him, plus, we don't have any players with over 300+ games experience, let alone 200+ games (Milburn's our highest with 188). Should we use pick 57 on Saturday to get him?

I don't know, I'm 50-50 on the idea.
What do you think?

Considering our list is capable of winning the flag next year, i think Hart would be a better pickup than a youngin who will need time to develop. If we did pick him up and use him next year though, where would he play and who would you take out of the team to include him?:thumbsu:

If we picked him up, I'm guessing we'd play him as a back pocket/half back type and Milburn might play at half forward.
If we use 4 picks in the draft and 4 in the rookie draft, will we have one to use in the PSD?

Will Hart go into the Rookie draft or PSD? How does this system work?

Having Milburn floating around in the forward line would be good. Sometimes went forward this year and was usually effective.:thumbsu:

Have faith... the year of the cats new twin towers - N.Ablett/Hawkins!:thumbsu:

(If we picked Hart up it would be in the PSD)

I am gettinf sick of these expectations on Hawkins next year. He still needs to prove himself and come in via the VFL. I hope he gets at least half a dozen games in the seniors next year but he shouldn't be rushed in too early.

Ben Hart....get real

I would say only if he has Leadership qualities.....

The Cats need on field Leadership around the Ground...

###Down Back ...Scarlet
###The Middle... Ling
###Forward....???? not Ablet...not Cam..(though he should)
maybe put Hart in the Forward line.(exp. defenders make good forwards)...It would release the others.(Cam, Ablet)..to drift to the middle or the Action ...just a thought.

I raised it as a question in one of the other threads, i think the one on davenport. As with all trades and drafts it depends what you are giving up, i.e. is the price right. There is no doubt that Ben would be good for the team and the club as a whole.

As much of a champion Ben Hart is, i'd have to pass and persist with developing a young guy that have 12 years ahead of him in leiu of 2 years maximum.

His last year was dogged with hamstring injuries, if you were to draft someone of his age you would require plenty of games played to get the value, not worth the risk at his age.

Not saying Ben Hart is ideal. But it seems all the hype about the "super draft" is forcing clubs to clear out their lists to make room. It might be the perfect opportunity to pick up some mature players that wouldn't have been delisted for other drafts. Super Draft aside there will still be plenty of duds.

Sorry CatmanForever, thought it was slightly obvious that i was being overly optimistic... no need to get sick.

I also want to see him prove himself in the VFL. Cant help but get a bit excited though.

I cant believe everyone is talking about getting Hart. How the hell is this bloke going to help the club? He isnt even good enough to get a game in the seniors and is 150 years old and cant even get out on the park..would be shattered if we had a crack at him

I wouldnt think the "super players" in this draft would carry on past pick 11 or so, but i cant really see the need to have Ben Hart in our squad unless someone has foreseen us having a massive injury crisis again. That said, Kellaway or Hart at #57 could be a good pick up if we were to push Josh Hunt/Milburn further up the ground. While it would be a shortterm fix, experienced defenders, expecially of Harts quality, are hard to come by.

Bring him on as a player for a year, with a view to then becoming an assistant coach. Premiership experience is priceless.

Mitchell White had the same credentials. Ben Hart's career was over a while ago. If we had a later pick than 57, it would be fine - but 57 should get something much better.
