Suits a team that needs in inside mid - would basically cost a 3rd rounder (so free). Not a superstar, but if played purely inside he would be much more self assured. Also had a few bad habits creep into his game like winning the footy and deciding to hatch it like an egg, rather than move it on quickly.

Is getting sharper with more midfield time, and looks much better as a result but is mostly playing of half forward to add defensive steel to the forward 50, but it’s not his strength (too slow) and he’s doing it because others are too lazy to bother.

I suspect they are also trying to develop another string to his bow at HF so that he’s not so one-dimensional, but it’s largely a waste of time.

Play him as an inside midfielder and you get a decent player for free (maybe B+ at best).
Will probably continue to look ordinary at half forward but that is a bit misleading. Will be a free hit for someone and it’ll work IMO.

Hopefully if Essendon is smart they just trade others and keep Hobbs in the middle. He’s AFl standard there and should be for another 10 years

He’s doing a solid job as a defensive pressure forward, which is admirable in and of itself, but not necessarily what he’s good at IMO. If someone played him in as a pure inside mid, I think they would have a better player, because that is the core of what he is.
He’s being played there though, because no one else will do it, and they can’t squeeze him into a relatively strong midfield (we have too many accumulators as is).

I think if another team came for him, they could get him for a third rounder (basically free), so it seems a pretty straightforward move for a team that needs one – but I doubt anyone does it, ‘cause life.

I am happy for him to stay though.

At 21, has some upside left in his game, how high that is will be the question

Has gotten better at taking the first option this season. If he gets the loopy kick out of his game then he could be a very good inside mid.

Ok, I just don’t have the ability to post any new threads, is this a general thing? Or have I done something wrong that I am unaware of?

Anyway I have no sources and don’t claim he is going to leave just wanted to see if anyone had any information.

First game back from injury but I imagine he could be picked up for pretty cheap

I think it’s pretty likely that Essendon will be moving on from Hobbs and Tsatas end of this season. Some potential bargains if a club can focus on their elite strengths and put them in a role that accentuates those.

Or some potential list cloggers. Both will be cheap as chips so worth a free hit.

We had momentum last night, we won a free kick on the wing and Hobbs kicked it directly backwards 30m to somebody without an option to switch.

He cracks in hard but is just a dumb footballer.

Games moved past this archetype guys like Libba Setterfield and Cripps have other tools to make up for there lack of disposal and speed Hobbs does not

Fine at a lower level but doubt he makes it to 100 games at AFL
after 60 games you pretty much can tell if he is upto it or not and he just looks too far off still
