He is a ball carrier and looks to go direct and long when he gets it. He breaks lines. I would have thought this was a pretty handy type to have in the modern day game. Granted he has not been in as good for this year but he is still well and truly in the best 22. His kicking is better than it looks. He is akward and every time he stuff one people notice because of this. Who cares if the only goes on his left(like most lefties) he rarely gets caught and thats all the matters.

It's O.K for people to tell other people to look in the mirror, but when an honest opinion of one of your own its a bit hard to swallow. It's like the parent whose kid continually gets in trouble. Instead of saying he is the bad crowd, they say he is hanging around with the bad crowd. Face up to it, HE IS A DUD. He couldn't hit the side of the QE2. Next week I will post the time of every quarter when he does another one of his useless innefective disposals. Thank god we have forwards who can take contested marks otherwise he'd look even worse.

off the top of my head I can think of 3 or 4 very important running goals at crucial stages he has kicked to settle us as well.

Johnson never does anything exceptional. He does kick the odd goal but too many people are giving him credit for regulation kicks. I would expect everyone at the elite level to kick the goals that he does. By the way, HE"S A RED HEAD.

I am not saying he is good because he plays for collingwood I am saying he is good for the reasons I posted in my previous post. I am always happy to give an honest opinion on our players(although I do agree with you that many on this board are not) I just happen to think when it comes to johnson you are way off the mark. If you look at the stats of the years you will find that his kicking effectivness is about average or even just about average. And his kicking is his biggest weakness. His strengths are his ability to break the lines, hardness at the ball and good tackling. IMO he is a very very important player. You dont have to agree but to be so arrogant and state that you opinion is right(there is no right or wrong on this matter) and everyone else is wrong is making you look silly.

With the way modern football is played, Ben Johnson has become obsolete. With every team now dropping numbers behind the ball, precision kicking is what is needed. Unfortunately, Johnson can only kick on his left side, and when he does that he gives the ball to much air. He doesn't kick the ball to the advantage of his teammate. Too many times the ball lands on top of the persons head who he is kicking to, and it is of no advantage to the team at all. Thankfully Collingwood have a new breed of players coming through who utilise the ball to benefit the side. If he also has to kick on his right he will turn straight back to his left, and if he then finds himself under pressure, will handball to the first person he sees. This also is usually to someone who is under pressure and it is just bad football. The late great Darren Millane couldn't kick on his opposite side but put the hard yards in to rectify his shortcomings. That is a person who was willing to swallow some pride and realise that he had a fault to his game and rectify it. Johnson has been doing the same mistakes with his disposal for too long now and its about time he actually put the hard yards in on his disposal. As it stands, he is nothing but trade bait.

Also, what has style got to do with it. Every player will kick the ball differently. It is what they are comfortable with that matters. I don't care how he kicks it, just put it to the advantage of his teamate.

I did. Ben Johnson is a dud. As I said before, I'd prefer Davis get the ball 13 times than Johnson get it 26 times. Johnson has no ability to sum up the situation as all of his thought process involves the left side of his body. He is limited in his capabilities. Trade the dud whilst he still has some value. He will never be an attacking player, just a negating player. Surely that must tell you about his skill level. He can't hurt the opposition. Hopefully we can get a draft pick in the high 30,000's for him.

his kicking effectiveness is criticized because he kicks helicopters, but who cares ? as long as they hit the target.

Even seen Rob Harvey or Brent Harvey or a few other top players kick with their non preferred side? It's not an uncommon thing for some of these blokes to have no game from one half of their body (surprisingly)

Everyone of your statements still doesn't indicate that he puts the ball to his teammates advantage. That's the point I'm trying to make. He needs to work on his disposal and decision making. Until then, HE"S A DUD.
