How's he doing given that he's (??) only 26, has been a more than useful contributor in the past and has made the right noises about putting a disasterous year or 2 behind him? Anyone opinions??

I hope BJ can get his act together and become a permanent fixture in the side again. Players who can break the lines, run and carry and are long kicks are invaluable when turning defence into attack. And while he mayb making all the right noises only time will tell if he can keep his nose clean and stay fit for the year, if he can't he may find himself on the chopping block at the end of the season.

His kicking and decision making have always been an issue. He worked extremely hard to fix this and at his best was a go to player for us. We'd look for Benny to push and break the lines. Since then a lot has changed, firstly his been found out due to his one sidedness. His decision making and kicking which as I said have always been a question mark have worsened again in part due to his one sidedness.

He looks fitter then ever which is a start but I think the fundemental flaws are still there which will stop him being a big part of 09. Against WCE where we had space to opperate and it was a walk in the park it was easy to see the attributes which won the hearts of pie fans. His run and carry and long goal kicking. Unfortunately thats not enough and the very next game against Richmond we were reminded of the limitations which have made the last couple of seasons very hard for him.

To be quiet frank just bombing into the foward 50 is not good enough, especially in this day and age and without Rocca. His I50 to goal assit ratio would be amongst the worst in the league I'd guess. Majority of his passes are chips which show the opposition to much of the ball or hail mary bombs into the 50.

Beyond that I think the skill level of the team has gone up and there are far more people competiting with him for a spot. Guys like Swan Tarks and Didak get a lot of that link ball. We get a lot more of a well balanced rebound out of defence. I can't see him in my best 22 unless we are completely derailed by injury.

He looks good and is making all the right noises, but the proof of the cake will be in the eating.

c'mon crab man, you can get back to your '06 form again. go BJ Honeycut, we need some line breaking, lateral moving crabstix to cut into the centre corridor.

Agree with this. Been a good servant despite a few mishaps but my hope is that the 2009 side has passed him by as we have improved and he is now a depth player. Good for Pies not so good for Ben

If Ben Johnson isnt in out best 22, we are in for a ripper of a year.

During the last period we were premiership contenders, BJ was very important in the way the delivery of the ball and the speed of our play progressed.

He is one of the few players we have with genuine pace, and when he decides or is told to kick long to contests rather then try and hit a target, he becomes very important.

His defensive skills are also first class, I have seen him play on and negate the likes of Kerr, Ablett, Mitchell and Milne (his personal favourite).

BJ at the moment is in our best 22, he had a shocker last year, but is still very important to us.

I can't agree with that. Whether that was the case and opposition teams have figured him out or whether he has figured out he used to get better results going long I don't know, whatever the reason the result is now he too often just gets the ball and kicks it long to a contest and hopes. It's often into the general direction of the foward but with no advantage. Without Rocca we don't have the same luxury of just bombing and hoping.

Ben and Byrnes should just save everyone the grief and go play matchbox cars in the goalsquare for the night.

Chances are they would probably stuff that up though too.

Ben Johnson is a poor, poor excuse for a footballer and only signals a backward step for the CFC.
