Does anyone know how bad it is? He appeard to be coughing up blood which is never a good sign.

Apparently according to a few on Nicks he has no structual damage so he may be rested this week against Freo, but should be right the week after.

Is there any quote or evidence from someone inside the club that he was definitely coughing up blood? I'm yet to see it confirmed.

From what I saw, and I watched the vision plenty, it was just vom. Well, him attempting to vom anyway.

To me, it looked as if he had the wind knocked out of him, felt like shit, tried to chunder, nothing, stayed on. Then subbed as a precaution.

I'm not worried. Not until he misses a week or two.

Ricky90 I saw footage of him coughing up something that definately looked to have traces of blood in it... although IMO it is equally plausible that he ingested a red Gatorade sometime in the previous couple of hours and was merely 'dry retching' a little of that up as result of a severe winding.

Either way, on one of the Sunday footy shows Doc Larkins said something to the effect of 'this is not an unusual incident, it happens once or twice a weekend and the player is fine. He'll play next week.'

Not a medical report, but hope this sheds some light until some confirmation is available.

Yep I definetly saw him spit out blood, although may be something else but seriously doubt it!

Although from what I saw, the amount of blood wasn't great as you can see when he spits it out the colour is faint due to it mixing with saliva.

I'm more worried about the fact that he tried to stay on but it seemed to get worse so was subbed off.

Note, I am not a doctor... I wish though

I thought the stuff he was spitting out was an orange colour, like vom, but anyway. He was prepared to keep playing, so he probably just got a bit shaken up/winded and subbed as a precaution.

Very high chance Reid will be totally fine to play.

The blood could have been from his mouth ( bit tongue or inner cheek as he slammed into the ground) or perhaps was from lower down due to the jarring rupturing a few capillaries ( tiny blood vessels)

Had a major blood vessel ruptured from the jarring force, he'd be in hospital.

Which he isn't :)

Plus all the talk round the club is that he's OK.

If he's not right to pay, it won't be because he spat out a bit of blood, but rather because he possibly bruised his ribs/back, or whiplashed his neck, during the fall.

And given there's been no talk in this direction, I reckon he'll be fit to play.

I really rate Peter Larkins. One of the top sports med. doctors going around and his ability to accurately diagnose an injury with minimal information is excellent - i.e. rarely wrong.
