Just want to get one thing out of the way, then this thread can be deleted.

Ive been hearing a lot about Taz, can we just forget about him? Anyone that doesn't see its a benefit we got rid of him is too simple-minded.

Anyway, to the point, Im warning FROM NOW, let Ben Reid be for the next 2 to 3 years. EVERYONE that understands football will be very angry if within the next 2-3 years any tool decides to start threads on how bad getting Reid was and how much of a mistake that trade was bla bla bla.

He was drafted as an underaged draft pick. He is ENORMOUS and needs time to get some meat on the body. This generally takes AT LEAST 2 years. Some come along faster then others but Ben Reid was younger then majority of players drafted in last years draft.

So just a warning from now, give the kid time and lets not start hearing trolls giving it to him next year if hes playing a few bad games at Williamstown. Knowing Collingwood supporters, its going to happen. Absolute ignorance.

Im only starting this thread because of the genius thats already started the 'Tarrant - Was it a Mistake' thread.

Go Pies!

Pfft, why think logically and reasonably?
Thats just stupid...

Lamaro_1998 for President!

.......

Nah, good post, but I doubt it will have very much impact.
IMO get used to the trolling and idiotic posters while you have the chance, it's no use reasoning. A lot more of these Tarrant/Reid threads are going to arise, along with a lot of other sh*t, we just have to filter through it and push on :)

and who are you going to get to help you enforce this warning? carolyn wilson?!
i do agree tho, should judge players until they have had time to show what they are worth. Im pretty sure that the responsible and wise bigfooty posters wont impede on your rules. Who cares about what the kids, girls and part timers say anyway...;)

As long as we can still call Josh Kennedy a dud, I'm all for it. :D

I think this is a very important by-law........there must be room to call all carlton young KPP that are not playing good footy from day 1 a dud. Fine print this one in.....we'll call it the Josh Kennedy Exception.

haha kennedy is a dud a bit of banter from us doesnt change that :p, but agree whole heartedly about Reid. Give him a year to develop in the 2's and a pre-season to put some meat on then unleash him next season.

Who exactly is giving us crap about Reid or getting on Reid's case anyway?
No one, but some Pies supporters seem to think that because he was an early draft pick, he should be in our best 22 already. It's beyond me! Travis Cloke is only now starting to shine. At least give Reid the same time we gave Trav.

Give him more time I reckon. Trav debuted after 5 rounds.
I didn't mean that. I meant that Trav didn't develop into the player he is today without a bunch of games under his belt. Trav is over 2 years older then Reid so we can better judge where Reid is at in 2009. I'd be suprised if he debuts this year but would expect him to play 2008 and start to really step up in 2009. But that's just a guess. Time will tell.

Couldn't agree more. Taz was going nowhere with us sure he would pull one out of the box but more often then not he was shocking. Taz isn't setting the world on fire over in the west so any dill who thinks we make a mistake should go barrack for Richmond that's their go. Lloyd took a few years at Essendon before he was a good player.

Develop Reid and Brown right and the future looks good rush them and it will be a mistake.

Patience lads. I think we have some gr8 kids coming along. Lets let them develop and not weigh them down with unrealistic expectations. On Reid ( and the new spine that we have drafted ) a minimum of 1 year away from debut , then a year to find their feet , another year to be consistant contributors ( minimum ). Then look out. Look at the type of player that make an impact in their first year or 2. They are more often than not small players. The futures so bright i need to wear:cool:

The key thing to remember here, is we don't HAVE to rush or fast track Reid and Brown.

We have the players to fill our key position needs for the next 2-3 years at least.

We have no excuses for getting the best out of both these very talented boys.

Our spine for the next 10 years:

Brown
O'Brien
Pendles
T Cloke
Reid

Beautiful - but yeah give the kids time to develope - it won't happen over night but it will happen - hehe!

Reid will eventually replace Rocca over the next 2 - 3 years and Brown will replace Wakes / Presti over the next 2 - 3 years , so as people have said before no need to rush at this stage - just time to build these kids into what they will be!!!

I think that Cloke is Rocca's long term replacement.
Cloke looks like a true future CHF. He will dominate that position.

I think Dawes will, hopefully, be that big FF figure, with Rusling also having stints their from time to time.

In the backline, of course, Brown will be our #1 talls defender. Harry will be the direct replacement for Clement and Maxwell, Goldsack (actually a future midfielder), Cox and Anthony others defending.

Reid will be a larger Thomas, freedom to roam anywhere on the field but plays a certain role every game, and is pure magic.

Pendlebury, Shaw, Swan, Stanley, Wellingham and Dick doing their thing in the midfield.

Lets hope this goes to plan huh

dont mean to troll here, but I still think some of you are expecting him to come on too quick.

he was one of the youngest in the draft and very skinny. While he might play a game or two next year, I'd think he's best left on the shelf till the 2009 season unless he really stacks on some weight. He has all the right ingrediants to succeed (height, pace, skills), but for the momment forget about him. While there are some exceptions, most KPP's take a couple of seasons to get up to grade and reid is younger than most. that said I look forward to seeing him in action and wish him the best. was hoping we'd pick him up!

I think collingwood did very well in getting reid knowing they'd have plenty of time to break him in.:thumbsu:

Bit unfair on Tarrant I think. Let's not rewrite history. True enough that he had some shockers for us but, even when he wasn't kicking goals, he was always working - getting the ball down etc. I, for one, was damned sorry to see him go. Also, he seems to be doing quite nicely over in WA at the minute - was BoG two weeks back and that Tarrant/Pavlich combination still looks pretty terrifying. Let's just hope it doesn't click in a couple of weeks time!

Reid was THE youngest player in the draft from memory, and only qualified by one day didn't he? He is a key posi, he will take a long time to develop... but in our 2009 premiership year, we won't even remember the name Tarrant when Reid kicks 6 in the final.

Now, hold on a minute, I remember a few people raving on about Chris Tarrant only a few years ago saying he was the next big thing and he would dominate from full-forward. If my memory serves me correctly, Tarrant was traded to Fremantle in 2006 and nobody gave a rats arse to see him go (even the coach).

Could this be a case of "pie in your face" or is Ben "the real deal"? He's promising - I can tell you that much!

P.S. I hope you're right... 6 goals is a massive achievement in anyone's language.

I'm afraid that Ben Reid will be judged unfairly as the Tarrant replacement, even 4+ years into his career. Tarrant all up had a solid career for us, and was a good player for us, you don't get a top 10 draft pick and a player for crap players. If Reid has a similar career we should be happy. That's not to say that I don't have high hopes for him (I honestly think he will be better than Tarrant) but the point is I hope we don't compare him to Tarrant, because if things don't go right, that's the first thing we'll be complaining about.

Agreed. Give Reid time and judge him on his own merits. At the same time, there is no need to unfairly downplay Tarrant's contribution to our club: All-Australian and ranked by almost everybody as one of our top five or six. Again, I sincerly hope he doesn't remind us of just how good he can be on Saturday-week!

Incidentally, assuming Jimmy's not back, how do we best try and cover Tarrant and Pavlich - Harry and Cox? I doubt that Presti has the pace to go with either of them over a distance.
