Bendigo BOMBERS v Northern Bullants

I only saw the first two and a bit quarters.

Dyson: played mostly on the ball. actually did some very nice work inside for once. managed several centre clearances under pressure. disposal was very very good. got run down once due to complete lack of awareness (and to be fair, lack of talk from teammates).

Hooker: excellent game. the side had to be shuffled due to no Johns or Mal, so Cale went down back and performed well. His agility is a very good attribute, especially at this level. Contested hard, stayed with his man and gathered the lose ball with aplomb. was willing to take his opponents on with run and carry, which is good for a KPP prospect.

Bellchambers: great tapwork at the centre bounces. is a real talent in this area. managed to get involved in some link work, too, which is important. he can't survive purely as a centre square ruckman any more. huge unit, only 19 years old, the future looks bright imo.

Williams: every week i see him play, i say the same thing. looks very promising as an attacking wingman. disposal swings from excellent to poor - he'll get there. is just starting to get the hang of reading the play from a defensive aspect, but needs a lot more work in this area. his man often gets the jump on him by reacting quicker when they have the ball.

Magin: the reshuffle saw Magin play more as a half forward than on ball. oozes class this boy, snapped a very nice crumbing goal and would have had a lot of inside 50's. skills are generally top notch. can't wait until the physique matches the ability. think of a mixture of Caracella / mercuri - not so much in ability, but in style.

Dick: didn't do anything much that i saw. too inconsistent from minute to minute, let alone week to week. has a nice pair of hands on the lead, but vanishes far too often. off the rookie list come end of year, won't get elevated.

Atkinson: hmmm. what to say? basically, tries to do too much every time he has the ball. doesn't give out the quick handball, instead tries to break the tackle and evade 4 opponents. sometimes it works, and he looks awesome. sometimes it doesn't and he gets done for holding the ball. his ability to carry the footy and break the lines can be priceless in todays game, but he needs to do the simple things to. listed in the best due to his flashy runs imo. i'd prefer a little more solidity.

Chartes: the archetype of Jack Dyers "good honest footballer", but to be honest only at VFL level. Competes hard, provides an option, just what bendigo need. he was quite serviceable yesterday in several roles, including pinch hitting in the ruck when Bellchambers took a spell. it would be great if he stayed around once off the rookie list.

Cramieri: just want to mention this kid. i am starting to think he may be worth a rookie spot. versatile, excellent disposal, good size, good mark and has a footballers brain, not an athletes. worth looking at closely (i think, but not certain, that he's only 20) and the pick of the bendigo list (other than skipworth and hartigan, who won't get back to AFL imo)

Weekes: an enigma, this bloke. was excellent up forward yesterday on the fast leads. has done that a few times in the last two seasons, but then has games where he is no where near it. consistency would be invaluable to bendigo.

if anyone cares, there are some photo's over on Bomberblitz that i took.

cheers.

Thanks for the report Saladin. :thumbsu:

Sounds like Bellchambers is coming along nicely and Hooker is improving every week. Good to see him being able to play both ends.

Hooker is becoming an interesting player....

very nice work saladin, appreciate the work

i had the same thoughts in regards to crameri after watching him play earlier in the season. there's just something about him.

magin and williams are both likely types also

He certainly is if it were to turn out that he could play defence.

I think he might be too light but if he could play FB, it would solve a LOT of issues for us.

No doubt he has the fitness and the endurance. Maybe he needs to put on a bit more beef. If he can handle a key defensive post, that would be an absolute bonus.

Has come along way since I first saw him in the intra club match at Cranbourne.

What type of player did hooker play on, who was he, cause it is easy to play on some lowly VFL skilled player, could he hold down FB, how tall and heavy is he, Ill have a look......

...196cm, 88kg (bit light maybe) could we play him soon as that third tall defender and turn him into a fletcher mould of player.

Will Magin ever make it, either as a mid or small forward.

ok then, whys that. am not sure where he will fit into our calculations. thats all. how was his Champs last year, any one recall.

He played two games for QLD averaging nine disposals and five contested possessions per game. He is a hard running outside midfielder and was an elite ball user throughout his junior career.

Maybe he could be used as a wingman??? Still has a way to go to get his body ready for AFL. But like i said, he will be given every chance whilst Merv is there. Is highly rated alongside Bellchambers.

Just on Stewart Crameri as well, I think with Atkinson getting a rookie spot this year Crameri would have to be a big possibility if Knights is gonna reward Bendigo players. Hard to believe he is 20 considering his size could step straight up and match it physically. Listed as 190cm and 93kgs is surprisingly quick and has long left kick on him. Been quite good in most games ive seen.

apparently he was very, very good for queensland the year before he was drafting age (2006). but his 2007 champs were considered a bit of a disaster, which saw him drop off the map a bit.

and HFF, he does show something special pretty much each week. doesn't get heaps of the ball as yet, but what he does with it is usually spot-on.
