Advertise isn't the right word, open it up to other interested parties is a better way to put it, don't think it has actually been advertised.

It's not for me to speak for them but from what I've heard there were a lot of issues that have been repeatedly raised and not just by the club, and there hasn't been any willingness to address them. Ultimately they seem to have differences in standards that the club isn't prepared to accept.

As an outsider observing it seems to me like they have done exactly the right thing. The current committee have righted a lot of issues that were created by their recent predecessors and seem to have a good, clear vision of where they are heading. I think they are right to insist everyone be on the same page.

So there are issues with the coach?

I'm not sure why the club wouldn't simply thank him and say they're moving in a new direction, the article in the addy refers that he'll be coach, only if there isn't a better candidate, and the clubs happy for him to reapply knowing that.

By the way im purely an outsider as well, but Castlemaine have had issues for a long time on how they treat their fringe senior footballers, when they were a force in senior footy in the late 90s and early 2000s, even how they treated eylsey in 2005 as senior coach.

I see dekka is helping Newstead, and there's a chance a few Maine guys head there, if no coach is announced soon you'd think

Never get rid of the current coach until you have a new one tied up. Some form of stability is much better than none. Weeks of recruiting and planning are slipping away and it would be fair to say Castlemaine is the club that can least afford this uncertainty.

Castlemaine should have been thinking about this, the last half of the year, if they didn't want Moran to continue though and had a succession plan in place for a smooth transition.

I can't see flat, Maine or Maryborough improving, no signings and two without a coach

What clubs have announced signings? I haven’t seen or heard much other than Curnow to sandhurst and the rumours that Geary’s are going to Eaglehawk. Anyone heard of any coming or going’s from other clubs around the BFL traps

I would have assumed the gearys would stay at Strath with jarryn to join them

I've heard what happened there was there was an agreement not to say anything in public until after the presentation night which was Friday night. That agreement was broken and the call from the Addy came as a surprise and wasn't well handled.

Don was there Friday night and spoke well, everything seems very amicable.

It's sounding more and more like they have done just that to me and have been working hard on recruiting in the background as well.

What has happened??

Seems to me they have started this process a while back and have a plan for next year and are well on the path recruiting wise. Of course, I could be completely off the mark but the more I hear the more it seems like it.

I get the feeling you're a lot closer to being involved at Maine than you claim, forest

Pretty quiet on the recruiting front - I’d say Some clubs will go large to keep up with the power clubs

Definitely not involved in any way, just a supporter.

It's a small town though so word gets around and if what I'm hearing is right they are well down the track with something that will make a pretty decent ripple in the BFL if they pull it off.

They need to because it has been a long time since they have made a ripple on the comp

For that I'm thinking dusty is quitting AFL and heading home, to captain coach.

Just remember Maine have had rod Keogh, former local and AFL player not the last the season, monfries quit before he began, Robbo come back for a crack and probably the biggest names in Castlemaine footy, the filos coach with no luck, but good luck the bfl needs a strong Castlemaine in the league

Did Brett Fitzpatrick have a crack as well? One of the issues they face is the changing demographic of the town. Also, having Campbell's Creek on their doorstep doesn't help when it comes to numbers and sponsorship etc.

I reckon Castlemaine need to get just 1-2 big names from the Bendigo region to get the ball rolling there is a big pool of players there that travel to places further than Castlemaine to play. 1-2 gets them started then turn that into more over the next few years and I reckon they could recover it might be easier said than done but kind of like what Kyneton did after the year off a while back it’s a slow burn but it can be done. They’ve managed to bring some locals like Henderson and Horne back which they obviously need to keep but need outsiders as well and Bendigo is only 25 mins up the road they need to try tap into that pool.

Sounds like I'm not the only one who has heard what they are working on!

To be honest I’ve got no idea what they are working on it was just my thoughts but if they are working on something similar to my thoughts then in my opinion it’s the right place to start. Can you tell us what you’ve heard?
