Bendigo FL discussion 2025

District leagues take all bar the gate for any finals they hold. Common sense says the BFL should look at the Heathcote League model. Grand Final at the QEO, all other finals shared every second year. Club hosting finals make their jam, with the exception of gate takings. Not sure there wouldn’t be too many clubs not taking that opportunity. Problem being that would affect the ability to pay another staff member at AFLCV

Who do you think profits from finals? All food and drink are tendered.
Don’t forget the Dragons president standing over those with the drinks tender, forcing to close within 5 mins of the finals siren. Oh and the canteen payment that has to be made to Sandhurst for any club or league who plays at the QEO and wants the canteen open..

It's council owned genius.

Why don't the Board and region get together and make the BFNL a true Bendigo-only comp? Give the new teams heaps of help with points and salary cap relief.

1 Sandhurst Seniors
2 Eaglehawk Seniors
3 Marong Seniors
4 South Bendigo Seniors
5 Strathfieldsaye Seniors
6 MGYCW Seniors
7 Golden Square Seniors
8 Kangaroo Flat Seniors
9 White Hills Seniors
10 North Bendigo Seniors

Would reduce travel, hopefully build local rivalries (and gates) and allows both LV and Heathcote leagues to be true Country town leagues.

Everyone can rest easy, Carol has just put out a press release. Says that because Gisborne have been in the league for 20+ years, she anticipates they will stay.
We’re all well aware she would never have her head in the sand about these types of things, so I take her word as gospel. I guess we can all move on now.

Because the hdfl &lv clubs dont want to play against the big 5, whats in it for them? They'd want few years to build the club up to that level. Id say they'd be happy playing each other and a few clubs

Poor old Sth. Not even allowed to put memorabilia up in their own rooms. Shafted.
This happens in a few spots…. Just makes the facility look sterile.
Surely they could give each club that calls the rooms home an equal sized space to fill with memorabilia only.

The Bendigo pond is not big enough to sustain such a competition. It sounds ridiculous given the current sad state of affairs but there isn’t enough local talent and Jr numbers to supply a league like that.

The day Maiden Gully comes into the BFNL is the day Eaglehawk and Kangaroo Flat start looking elsewhere to join - mark my words.

Looks like it’s been written by a lawyer too. That will be $900 thanks Carol and guess what, yes the clubs will pay. Bully tactics have started but it’s too late.

Flat are already looking.

And a little birdy tells me there is some chatter around the streets of Eaglehawk that some very informal interval conversations have taken place around the future.
Could we see a club like the Burra jump ship to the GV, be a point of difference club in the Bendigo region, attract local high standard players to form somewhat of a Bendigo based super team?

They've got 5 days, its not happening, and the reality is now unlikely for others as theyll need a club vote to see, then apply

You mean Gisborne not happening, or other clubs? My mail is that their application will be in by the deadline.

Flat are absolutely looking, but agree highly unlikely for 2026, unless they move incredibly fast.
