Just a little thought on young Bentick. Although he had some nice games for us last year, and has proven he can win the ball, is he really what we need in 3,4,5 years time? His game against Port Adelaide was deplorable, he had three inside 50's in the first quarter which all went straight to Port Adelaide players, and were not even close to being marked by a Carlton player. His speed is not up to scratch, and with the game getting faster and faster, unless is is a FREAK I just think he will get torn apart. My preference would be to have Carazzo in the middle, and whilst his skills at times have been dodgy, I reckon he is/could be a real class act.....

Bentick will be the ideal foil for Murphy. He will provide the grunt in the midfield allowing Murphy to utilise his great skills and great football brain. Bentick is a true in and under player, something we are lacking at Carlton. His 34 possession game against Collingwood gave an indication of what he is capable of, and there aren't too many players at Carlton capable of accumulating those numbers. He will allow some of the flashy players, eg Stevens, Walker, Simpson to show their flair.

Bentick has more of a future than a player like Eddie Betts.

Yes Bentick is a bit slow footed, but not everyone can be a fast running player. He is a grunting player that can get clearances and all of that stuff.

He does have a future, but he will still have to work hard and improve to achieve his future in AFL Football.

Let me say Betts has a future too.... I just can't see him player until his 28-30, where as I can see Bentick playing to 30.

Granted his foot skills can sometimes let him down, but his efficiency with his feet is above 70%, I believe. His skill by hand is very good and the added string he has to his bow, in a similar fashion to 'Ratts', is his tackling, something rare in a midfielder nowadays.

Reminds me of ratts.....have also seen him deliver some grass burners straight onto the chest of leads, so he can kick. Watch that pie game again and this guy has to stay .......

Bentick has some talent and does provide that in and under midfielder we are going to need, particularly when Kouta no longer patrols the midfield for a full game.

The only query I still have is that he hasn't really had the opportunity to deliver consistenly at AFL level yet. Everyone keeps pointing out the Collingwood game, but that was only one game.

A lot of people talk about Bentick has a proven AFL talent. He still has to earn those stripes IMO. We'll know more after the first 6 weeks or so of this season.

His NAB Cup/practice match form hasn't really been top notch, but they are practice macthes after all.

Everyone, and I mean everyone, was shockingly poor during that game. You can't just pull out one person and have a go at him based on a game where everyone played poorly. Especially when its just a practice match.

Why throw Carazzo into midfield?? He's about the only bloke that was a shining light last year in a back pocket. Leave him there where he plays good footy, don't go throwing him in somewhere where he'll get carved up.

Good teams are built around defences, take '95 for instance. Look at some of the great BP's of the modern era, Chris Johnson, Bomber Thompson and Gary O'Donnell, Leo Barry, McKay, Archer. If you find a winner there, he's got to stay there.

He was good towards the end of last season, and really impressed. If he can continue that form consistently into this season, i see no reason why he couldn't be a long term player.

The problem is we lack small defenders but I would much prefer McGrath used there and Carrazzo pushed onball as often as possible. As long as his kicking keeps improving.

The problem is that we need him more in defense then we do in the midfield. He's the only player in our senior team who can actually man a small forward and beat them... which is a pretty sad statement on our defense.
