I reckon he is one of our most underrated players, he may be one dimensional, but what he does he does really well. We really missed his hardness at the stoppages IMHO.

Good point.

He is hard, maybe lacks a yard,
but likes a contest and gets his hands dirty.

Can open open up clearances for Number 5.

I'd be happy to have a one-dimensional Sam Mitchell at stoppages.

Last year Bentick was top 3 for tackles per games with 6 per game and Brett Kirk was 1st with 6.5, but played 3 more games.

In Bentick first full season 2006 his was 15th in the league with average of 4.2, 1st was James McDonald with average of 6.

Benticks strength is his stoppages, his handballers out of stoppages and his stoppage with tackles, something we have lacked in both NAB games.

Although people knock him he is very much required in the season proper, and hopefully he be the one getting the ball out to players like Judd, Carazzo, Murphy & Gibbs on the run past.

Judging by our performances over this preseason, IMO Bentick MUST be in the team come round 1.

We have ben really struggling in the centre and around the stoppages, and Bentick, although not a flashy player, is most effective in the exact areas where we have been lacking.
I agree.I have never been a fan of his.But I also noticed that we lacked grunt in and under this pre-season.Hadley seems like he will add a bit in that department but until Hadley gets a few more games under his belt Bentick needs to be in.

Also, I sure as hell wouldn't be relying mainly on a guy that's coming off 2 knee reconstructions to bear the majority of the responsibility to go in and get the ball.

guys as stupid as this may sound but i think that he would be in our top 7 of important players in our team. i probably will get shot down but when you actually think about his importance and what he brings to our side it makes sence.

hardness, protection, stregnth, courage.

Can't agree with you more, our clearances and hardness (around the stoppages) in the NAB cup were really below par. Bentick is far more important to our side than people think.

He gets exposed too much on a quick track like the Dome........but if you're talking a wet June day at the 'G', then he would be one the first picked.

My tip is Pfeiffer will take his place.

Mitchell doesn't waste the ball every time her gets it.

Silly comparison. Even though Mitchell is slow, he's still quicker than Bentick.

I would have my doubts about that given the way both Scotland & Gibbs outpaced him to win a loose ball on Saturday night. Scotland & Gibbs aren't exactly our quickest players yet they easily put 5 metres on Mitchell. As for your comment suggesting Bentick wastes the ball every time he gets it, his handball efficiency was mid 80s% last season, putting him ahead of Carrazzo, Scotland, Stevens (although he only played 3 games), Murphy, Walker, Kouta, Lappin, among others. Given he regularly wins the first possession, this would suggest he is using the ball quite well. It is what happens after that first possession that has been hurting us in recent years.

Comparing Bentick to Mitchell is ridiculous.
Mitchell is very classy with his disposal - Bentick is not.
Mitchell is very strong and very hard to tackle - Bentick is not.
Mitchel averages close to 25 quality touches a game - Bentick does not.

One footballer is top shelf - the other would be lucky to sit on a middle shelf
