They all gave it their best

Funny, i've been going to the footy for the past 14 years, but can't remember seeing Farmer play

Anyway, best... the usual suspects mentioned here. Ablett (only saw him for the last 4 years of his career, but wow, what a 4 years), Hocking, Couch, and yeah Stoneham even though the poor guy was injured alot.

Worst, someone said Clark. But at least he kicked it at least once properly to Ricco in that game. For me it'd be Handley. Man, that guy was sloooow. :D

*Seven and Ten could turn pay TV on its head*

The Australian pay TV industry could be turned on its head by talks the Seven and Ten networks have held with small pay TV operator, SelecTV, about creating a new AFL Footy channel.

If they come to fruition, the talks would see Seven and Ten avoid having to deal directly with Foxtel and Fox Sports.

Everyone involved says there have been no talks, but I understand discussions have been held. They may not be going anywhere at this stage, but it is a sign of the determination of Seven in particular to avoid dealing with Foxtel, unless the pay TV group lifts the price it is willing to pay.

It would also get around the AFL's insistence that Seven can't set up its own pay TV business, which is a reading of the free to air rights with which Seven doesn't necessarily agree.

SelecTV is controlled by the wealthy Gordon family, which also controls Win TV, and pay TV industry sources say its slowly building its reach with a couple of new channels to be added shortly, one of which is rumoured to be a local racing channel.

SelecTV does not have many subscribers: they are believed to be in the thousands compared to Foxtel's 1.1 million plus and Austar's half a million plus. But if the talks continue towards an AFL deal, it would be able to expand its business and ramp up distribution to pubs, clubs and others wanting the service, as well as AFL fans across the country.

Unlike the division of Australia into Fox Sports supplied and Austar supplied areas, SelecTV has a national footprint and can broadcast the required number of games on a Friday night in Queensland and NSW live as they are going to air in Victoria, WA and South Australia on Seven and its affiliates.

Seven and Ten are both saying nothing except they expect the pay TV situation to be resolved one way or the other by the end of the year and both are prepared to show all eight games each week.

Well I do recall being at the 95 Grand Final. But all I can remember is the pre-match (crapola) entertainment and the mele at half time. Put it down to selective memory. ;)

But please enlighten me. :)

the best in the last 15 years.....stupid question really....only one Gary Ablett Snr

the worst...hmmmm that's a more interesting one:
charlie Gardiner
Brett Spinks

Worst - S Crothers, A McCrabb, H Playfair, C Gardiner & B Stoneham (after injury)

BEST

Theres only one.

Ablett Snr. My first ever game I went to was his first for the club. And I went to his last with the club. My biggest football highlight was at the G in 89 sitting behind the goals small scoreboard end. V Collingwood. Wet day. From memory it was early in the last quarter. (correct me if im wrong) Umpire goes bang in the middle and from there, Gaz weaved his magic. (for those who arent on the same wave length it was goal of the year) Brings a shiver down the spine ever time I think about it.

WORST

David Mensch (I remember watching him in his first year in the ressies thinking how the hell did this bloke get on the list) did improve alittle bit but why we didnt let him go to Collingwood when we had the chance is beyond me.
Steven Hooper (would be the worst number 1 pick in history)
Joel McKay
(help my memory now guys. I cant remember his name) From Hawthorn, he kicked 3 goals with 3 kicks in the last quarter V Melbourne in 2000. (game where the flame did lap of honour)

Honerable mentions - Robert Scott, Daniel Foster

You're a bit tough on Menschy there. I wasn't exactly his no 1 fan (far from it), but he did redeem himself towards the end of his career.

As for that guy in the final round.. was it a player called Marcus Baldwin??? Im really just guessing here... But I do remember what game you're referring to.

I think that name rings a bell.

As for Menschy, maybe I am abit tough, but he only seem to do anything when thrown into the ruck as a last resort. (RE : Kangas opening round of 99 where we came back from 40 odd points down in 3rd quarter to win)
And the Collingwood game where he kicked 6 at Geelong.

The worst part was, Ayres tried to structure a forward line with him as the main target.

Best game ever!! :)

But you have some fair points.

It would be in my top 5 games aswell. They were the previous years runners up and they won the flag that year.

Lol, im getting an idea for another thread "Best and Worst Games"...

That one would probably be my all time fav... 3 "comebacks" in one game. Too bad I missed the best goals of the match (Ronnie Burns). The 95 one against Essendon would be up there too. Classic Ablett in the last quarter. And of course the 94 finals series, minus the last one.

LOL Who remembers John Barnes bounce of the footy it was shocking, he would bounce it about 5 metres in front of him and run all the way on to it lol
