Ok i want to know who people think the best bands are the way i think it should be listed is in catigories such as:

Aussie bands:

  • Jebediah
  • Something for kate
  • Silverchair

American Bands:

  • Creed
  • Three doors down
  • Babylon A.D

Pommy bands:

  • Oasis
  • Coldplay
now i should put the beatles here but i want the best bands of modern times (still together and making music) and since i don't like much pommy music i only put down two bands.
There is alot of bands that i could list because there is a whole lot of talent out there so don't bite my head off because i didn't put down who you like these are my choices on my taste :)

Hmmm modern bands huh.

Aussie Bands.
  • Jebediah
  • Silverchair
  • Something For Kate
  • Powderfinger
  • Grinspoon
  • Living End

American Bands.
  • Green Day
  • Metallica
  • Creed
  • Fuel
  • Garbage
  • Stone Temple Pilots

Uk Bands.
  • U2
  • Oasis
  • Coldplay
  • David Gray
  • Supergrass

There you have it, none of them are in any order. I do like old music too but there the SHIT for modern days.

I'll pick my favourite for each country:

Aussie Band

Powderfinger (only cause everything else is ripped off Indie sh!ite)

American Band

Tool

Metallica were my favoirite once. Creed and Three Doors Down are the biggest joke to "music" since Warrant and Poison! Creed are nothing more than 21st century hair band!!! Matchbox20 deserve a lethal injection for their insult to the world.

UK Band

Radiohead

Doves are also pretty good, but Coldplay, Travis etc. merely enjoy producing a heavily watered down version of the great band Radiohead (ie. musically and lyrically unimportant drivle).

U2 would put their foot up you arse jod, for saying they are from the UK! They are still one of the best bands on the planet, but their mantle of best band in the world went to Radiohead in 1997 when OK Computer came out!

Best Aussie bands
Spiderbait
Skulker
The Deerhunters (not suree if they are still around)

Worst Aussie Bands

Best Pommie Bands
Curve
The Creatures (half of Siouxsie & the Banshees)

Worst Pommie bands
Coldplay
Blur
Radiohead
Oasis
U2 (Worst band in History)

Best Yankee Bands
Blondie (All Time fav and about to release a new album)
DEVO
Sonic Youth
Rollins Band

Worst Yankee Bands
All those girlie vocal w***ers and wankettes. Black American music is at an all time low as well. Dr Dre, Left Eye Lopez (or whatever the dogs name is) and others of there ilk are making the most putrid music I've ever heard, and even JJJ are playing some of this s***.

Sorry if that last comment sounded racist, but surely these idiots learnt something from BB King, Chuck Berry (the true King of Rock'n'Roll, Diana Ross anmd the like.

metallica...you said joke figjame?...LOL

No, me not say joke you illiterate spud.

When I say Metallica were my favourite, I am talking about the 1982 - 1988 period, when they were by far the best metal band on the planet. Ronnie James Dio fronting Sabbath, was little more than a mildly funny joke, during this period of domination from the once great band.

Nowadays I wouldn't spit on Metallica's CD's cause they are made to make sure Lars can aford another private jet!

I agree with you about Creed though. Why don't they just be like Stryper and "come out" already!!!

I said it once and I'll say it again, calling me assjam only serves to display to the world your homoerotic fantasies, you Spandex wearing monument to 80's mullets!

In the US and Metallica wrote the best four albums of metal between 1983-1988. If you dispute this then name the them! Maybe Slayer's Reign In Blood, but there wasn't much else that could compare with Metallica!

Anyway, I am merely giving an opinion as to who my favourite band was and you are having a personal go at me for not reaching your standards of cool.

I like music ranging from Cat Stevens to Napalm Death to Rave standard Techno and I have never ever listened to any type of music in order to be "hardcore", I listen to it because I enjoy it.

Speaking of cool, if you want the definition of the word, all you have to do is give a quick visit to the following site, where you will see the biggest bunch of hack musicians, who look like they have been teleported from 1985. Lycra pants and mullets; very cool.

F*cken this is HARDCORE FitzroyJamesDio!?!

Go here for the laugh www.twistedfruits.com !!!

oh come on Assjam dont be so defensive...LOL

i wouldnt judge you...jesus said not to judge!!:p

and if memory serves me correctly your fave band of merry men metallica have worn spandex!..and they really like make up too!

lol

pity they didnt do a ratt cover! round and round!

Metallica never wore spandex. Just sperm-count reducing jeans/leather pants!

For the record, Metallica ain't my fave band.

My favourite bands are Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Black Sabbath (Ozzy only as you know) and Pink Floyd. It would be a bit stupid of me to put any of these bands under the heading "Favourite American Group", given that they are all Pommie bands.

This post has gone completely astray as a result of you having a dig at an opinion.

haha this thread gets better and better then again some of you picked bands i would of never thought of.. each to their own.

I cannot agree with you on the top few here. Why aren't the Beatles mentioned? And how the hell does DEVO and the Rollins band get a mention? They're utter shit.

But...

I couldn't agree with you more about the above. Boy bands should be shot on the spot as well. All this R and B, and rap shit is pathetic. Half of the lyrics revolve around "fellows" "homeboys" as they call themselves, beating up their "bitches" or "bad ass hoes", typical seppo yankie bullshit.

Cold Chisel

They'll still be playing Chisel when all that pathetic grunge crap they play on JJJ has been consigned to the toilet bowl of music history.

Rock'n'roll

give me the greats, Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, Deep purple, Hendrix and the Experience, Pink Floyd and others which I guess a lot of you kids have never heard of.
Which is fair, coz all of these "new" bands, I have never heard of

For all you people naming old bands and why havent you named them and so forth is because this thread is about bands that are new or modern.

I love the Beatles, Beach Boys, Dire Straits, Floyd, Hendrix, Zeppelin and so on and so on but they are not modern bands.

Figjam - to insult Creed like you did but name Tool as you favourite american band is pretty funny .... Tool ... LOL.
Radiohead are nothing special, Oasis piss all over them. And i know U2 are Irish dumbass but i just thought i would include them in the UK section. Besides if they are from Northern Ireland then they are in the UK.

Radiohead is soooooo far from being the best band in the world its hilarious. The truth of the matter is that there really isnt any supergroups anymore, all that died when The Beatles, Stones Floyd, Straits, Beach Boys ect slowed down or broke up or just stopped making music.

The only true supergroups left in the world today are U2 and Oasis, and they both make Radioheads music sound like Rolf Harris.

OK just to set the record straight;
I am a HUGE Creed fan and i am getting a bit pissed at people saying they are a religious band. well here you go:

Is Creed a Christian band? "Are we a Christian band? This is a question we are asked a lot because of some of the references made in the lyrics. No, we are not a Christian band. A Christian band has an agenda to lead others to believe in their specific religious beliefs. We have no agenda! Those references were made at a time in my life when I was questioning how I was raised, and searching for where I stood concerning those issues. This is not to say I have abandoned those beliefs, just searching for where they fit into my life." -- Scott Stapp

Are the members of Creed Christians? "This is a very personal question because the whole foundation of being a Christian is a personal relationship. I can say that all the members believe in God, but we each differ on our methods to reach Him. We are all still learning and growing, and God can only answer this question, because who are we to say that being a Christian is the only way to heaven. I know this might be hard to understand for all the Christians who follow the band--and trust me, I know where you are coming from--but let us continue to seek, and if that is the way, then we will find, if we continue to knock, the doors will be opened." -- Scott Stapp

OK, so they're not Christian--are they religious? "Please do not limit this band to only dealing with spiritual issues. I wrote about spiritual issues on My Own Prison because that was what I was dealing with personally at the time. I write about things that are very personal to me, and things that I see and feel from the world around me. All I can say is that writing for this band is not centrally focused around spiritual issues, so understand that not all of our songs in the future will deal with the same things MOP dealt with." -- Scott Stapp

This is all from Creed.com and as for the band members being gay well i'd have to say i agree with you there they do look a bit on the queer side but they make great music are inspired by the greats eg: zepplin the beatles metallica fuel etc.
Just goes to show you all before you go and take a dig at a band you should go and do a bit of looking around because someone else always will :)

WOOOOHOOOOO! Me and Dio finally stand on common ground!!!

Creed are bible bashers, which frankly is fine, but at least they could admit it! The fact that they talk about God as a person confirms this. What I really don't respect is the fact that the music is done to such a predictable formula, I dry reach every time I hear it. It is cringeful stuff!

Jod, I am fully aware that Maynard from Tool has a mop. But my definition of a hair band is different to that of a metal band...

Creed = Stryper, Warrant, Motley Crue

Tool = Slayer, Metallica, Alice In Chains

...you see the difference?

And jod, I don't know which band you are referring to when talking about Radiohead. Firstly, I would put money down that the only song of theirs you have ever heard is Creep.

Secondly, so far as "Superbands" go, Radiohead have sought not to even make an attempt at this mantle. To get anywhere near that title, the band must stick to the formulas that have been around since Chuck Berry. Anthemic choruses are a must.

U2 have done this to perfection, whilst making advances in modern rock. Oasis have done this averagely, whilst rehashing ideas left over from Let It Be in 1970.

Radiohead have taken a Pink Floydesque route and scrapped any notion of creating pop-rock like they did with Creep. The hate Creep and Thom Yorke has a fantastic term for music like it (ie. Blink 182, Creed etc). Thom reckons today's radio sounds like a buzzing fridge, hence the term fridgebuzz. Lifeless, generic, heartless slop!

Put a bit of emotion into a record while making real inroads into what can be done in the medium of (rock) music and you have Radiohead.

Radiohead's last two albums, for what it's worth, have been nominated for Best Album at the Grammies. Just click on the following links to see two reviews at Pitchfork Media:

Kid A

OK Computer

Amnesiac comes out on June 4 and read one of the local rags to see how much respect this band gets and deserves. I'll put a fiver on the Herald giving it 5 stars. It is aural perfection.

ok.. here goes (Does this include singular artists??)

Aussie Bands

The living end (love the lyrics)
Jebediah
Powderfinger (SOME of their stuff)

American bands

Insane Clown Posse (yes, I know, no one will agree)
Fuel
Creed
Limp Bizkit

Pommie bands

I......don't know, i'll have to think about it.

The reason the Beatles aren't included is because they aren't modern and aren't still producing music. Read the original thread you fool. Anyway I wouldn't included The Beatles because I dislike them. My father used to play them continuously when I was kid and turn me right off them, although they are a few songs a still like (Helter Skelter, I am the Walrus and Come Together). The Rollins Band is a great hard rock band fronted by a great lyricist, and Hanks spoken word tours are hilarious as well.
As for DEVO, well...Every band for the last twenty or so years owe something to these guys. They created so many great albums. There lyrics were sometime a bit obscure, but they were always fun and always ahead of their time. Rumour is they are about the return to the studio for a soundtrack album. Can't wait.

OK point taken Creed are bible bashers... and all their songs are about god etc etc.. umm bullshit :)
show me where it says in songs like: bound and tied, illision, unforgiven,is this the end, never die, young grown old, ode, sister or wrong way anything about god? see like i thouht you guys have only heard a certain few songs. I'd put money on it that you guys have maybe heard one out of the songs i mentioned above. (is this the end scream 3) Also if you want to get really deep into it look at tears in heaven by clapton, now don't take this the wrong way it's a great song i am also a huge clapton fan but doesn't he sing about heaven in that song? hmm i think he did and doesn't this suggest to the listener that their is a heaven? think it does.
See there is thousands and thousands of songs like this made by people who may or may not be religious.
And don't go biting my head of saying claptons song was different because it was about his son. when scott wrote most of the songs of my own prision two of his close friends had just commited suicide so there that's the explination. Besides if they are religious does it matter? i have never said i like the people just the music in fact i remember saying something along the lines of they look like ****. It's not like they are coming knocking on your door saying god will damn you to hell if you don't listen to our music it's your choice you don't like em don't listen to em but i think before you judge you should listen to at least 5 of the songs i listed look at the lyrics even.
