You got the feeling Patterson was angry at the ball, at the game itself, at God, at there being no God... He couldn;t crush the ball in his hand so l guess the next best thing was to run in as fast as he could and throw (bowl) it at someone as fast as he could. Fearsome.

Still take Marshall and Akram over anyone else. Moving it both ways at pace is as close as you get to unplayable and they did this regularly. l remember seeing an Akram match against Eng and he was moving it so much, that nobody could figure out how to even get an edge on it, or it would pitch on leg and swing past the off stump. Everybody was completely bemused. Should have taken 10 for 5 , but ended up wih 4 for not many l think. Phenomenal bowler.

If I was selecting a bowling attack from players I've actually seen I'd take:

Curtly Ambrose
Wasim Akram
Allan Donald
Shane Warne

Lillee, Holding, Hadlee, Marshall etc were all leaving the scene when I became interested in cricket.
