2008 GF v geelong- the best footy day of my life, 3 rows back on the wing southern stand. It all went to plan. Although i had a sinking feeling during that second quarter, i knew we were good things when cyril kicked that crumbing goal. Had hodge for norm smith too. Got home at 7 sunday night. What a (couple of) day.

89 GF v geelong- Although i was only 9, i remember it well-and have watched it prob 100 times since. THE BEST GF there has been and prob ever will be. A hard, tough skillful game that had everything. Ablett at his best, our powerhouse side decimated by injuries hanging on. Dermie and Dipper inspirational.

07 elimination v Adelaide- best day ive had at the dome, easily. The day our young side came of age. Hodge was inspirational, buddy kicked seven including the winner with 2 seconds on the clock. Even the port fans were singing with us that day.

91 GF v WCE- down by 4 goals early, ran all over the eagles for the next 3 quarters. Our forward line on fire.

96 rd 22 v melb- Win a close one to make the finals, dunstall kicks ten to get the ton. The merger game. The next week was a big let down tho, with dunstall doing his knee for the first time and losing to eventual GFs syd by a goal.

01 semi v port- a game we were heavy underdogs in. Crawf awesome, barker and thompson last quarter heroics get us over the line.

09 v carl- fevs miss at the end one of the funniest things i have seen. Roughy awesome with 8 at the other end. Judd v sewell a great battle.

08 QF v dogs- Buddy kicks 8 in one of the most exciting performances in a final. Absolutley smash the dogs all over the ground. Hodge 16 touches for second BOG.

05 v bris- early season game with our very young side. We beat a strong bris side by a fair margin. This was the day i knew this side was on track for a flag.

and the only loss i will put on here

01 prelim- absolutly robbed by goldspink in the first quarter giving 3 soft goals to the bombers. Terrible decisions-even essendon supporters i have spoken to agree. But we showed a lot of heart to come back and nearly steal it.

My brain can only relate to this thread in terms of games we actually won. So here are ten random subjective speculations in chronological order:

1. vs St. Kilda, round 13, 1978. How often can you claim your team held the League's highest score? This was a great feeling at the time, with Kelvin Templeton kicking 15 goals as we beat a record previously held by Carlton.
2. vs Collingwood, round 10, 1984. 29 points down at half time. Won with four seconds remaining after Beasley took that mark from Graeme Allan's kick across goal. This broke a 14 game losing streak against the Pies.
3. vs Collingwood, round 17, 1990. Won by three points after leading comfortably all day and withstanding a Collingwood comeback during the last quarter. So good I had to buy a copy from Name a Game.
4. vs Carlton, round 11, 1991. Defeated Carlton by 41 points after keeping them goalless until very late in the last quarter.
5. vs West Coast, Qualifying final, 1998. Our highest winning margin in a final, and who better to cop it than West Coast.
6. vs Adelaide, round 16, 1999. 40 points down at three quarter time and winning by 2.
7. vs North, round 15, 2000. Won by four points after trailing by 25 points at half time, at one stage being 42 points down during the second term.
8. vs Carlton, round 19, 2000. Narrowly beating Carlton at home is always a grand feeling, even though Princes Park is no longer used.
9. vs Essendon, round 21, 2000. A great feeling to beat the undefeated premiership favourites that season, even though we used unorthodox methods. We were 21 points down during the last quarter.
10. vs Hawthorn, round 14, 2009. Obviously you never tire of reminiscing of the time you kept the reigning premier goalless at half time and then beat them by 88 points.

1/ 2003 QF Final vs Port. Heading to Adelaide without Ball and O'Loughlin against the team that finished a clear first. One of the greatest Finals upsets considering we were hotly tipped to win the Wooden Spoon that year.

2/ 2006 QF Final vs Eagles. So much tension. WE managed to get the jump on them in the 1st half due to our efficiency going forward, but i always knew the Eagles would come back. They did. But O'Loughlin kicked the sealer and got right up and close with a few supporters. Magic.

3/ Rd 18, 2005 vs Crows. Low scoring, but in a tight, close marking and high tackling game, the in close skills of both teams was brilliant to watch. Swans were the better team, but the Crows won it on the back of a red hot 10 minute spell at the start of the 3rd. Swans could have won it had it not been for a 1.6 to 0.2 last qtr.

4/ 2005 PF vs Saints. On edge the whole game up until 3 qtr time. But the 4th qtr and the last 15 minutes of the game was sweet bliss knowing we were heading into a GF. Schneider kicked 3 in the last to get us there. RO'K played his best game for the club that night.

5/ 1996 PF vs Bombers. Game could have went either way. Remember Maxfield carrying the ball a good 50-60m to set up Dale Lewis, then Cresswell levelling the scores in the dying minutes, then the best point i've ever seen with Lockett putting us into the GF after the siren. :thumbsu:

6/ Rd 15, 1997 vs Bombers. In a relatively close game the whole way, we seemed to be just hanging in there, but the Bombers managed to skip away in the 3rd and when Bewick snapped a miraculous goal (1st of the 4th) from the boundry line in the last, it seemed a bit beyond us at the time. Got the biggest goose bumps from the roar of the crowd when Stafford managed to pluck a mark out of the air in the goal square during our fightback. (Might have been the goal to put us in front.) Swans by a point.

7/ Rd 9, 2008 vs Port. Game of 2 halves. A great shoot out in the 1st with both teams exchanging goals followed by a tight 2nd half. IIRC we were down by 7 points with around 5 or 6 minutes to go when Mattner hauled down Pearce running into an empty goal (which probably would have sealed it), but we kicked the last 3 of the game to win by 11.

8/ 2005 GF vs Eagles. Magical feeling during the build up right up to being there on the day and the celebrations afterwards. Very tense during the game, O'Loughlins kicking for goal let us down on the day, but we got the job done and our first flag in 72 years.

9/ Rd 14, 2000 vs Bombers. We showed a lot of passion and commitment in this game against probably the best team i've seen in my life time. It rained all day, but unfortunately for us it stopped at 3 qtr time when we were leading and the Bombers over ran us in the last.

10/ 2005 SF vs Cats. Only really here due to the individual performance of Nick Davis and the fact his 4th was with 3 seconds left. Drub of a game for the first 3 quarters and to be honest and the place was like a morgue, but the 4th made up for it.

4. 1994 Qualifying Final v Footscray- It was close for the entire match, and we trailed by one point when Billy Brownless marked with a second to play. He would nail a monster from 60m out to steal the game for us.

A monster from 60m? More like straight in front from about 40. Great composure and nerves to kick after the siren in a knockout final, but don't increase the distance to make it more romantic.

Don't waste your time mate.....the guy is like this all the time.....either very stupid or an exceptional troll. Can't work out which.

Seriously guys he punched Edwards in the head, knocked him unconcious, Edwards who was BOG at the time spent the night in hospital. Hard to tell intention of the player in many incidents without some form of functional MRI being done the moment of the incident. That wouldn't have helped here anyway as the Cloke family have no brain between the 4 of them

Clumsy or deliberate, he knocked Edwards senseless. He deserved to miss the GF, surely you cannot argue that. David and Jason on the footy show Thursday night that year weeping about it was an embarrassment to Collingwood.

Back to original post the best non Crows game I ever saw live was the 99 Prelim Essendon v Carlton. That game had everything. Nothing like 50000 supporters from each club at a Prelim, atmosphere better than any of the Grand Finals I've been to.

From 20-1 thread on the Brisbane board.

My 20-1 Greatest games I attended.

20. Tony Lockett v Fitzroy Round 19, 1995 Western Oval

Fitzroy 2.2.14 2.3.15 4.7.31 6.8.44
Sydney 8.2.50 17.4.106 22.6.138 27.8.170

Brownlow Votes: 3 T Lockett (syd), 2 P Kelly (syd), 1 D Cresswell (syd)

It may seem strange to have a loss in the 20-1 especially a 126 point one, but this was one of the most amazing games I have ever witnessed. Tony Lockett was absolutely on fire this day kicking 16 straight, I remember watching the whole crowd migrate from one end to the other just to watch him.

19. Lions v Carlton, Round 5, 2007 Telstra Dome

Carlton 5.6.36 14.8.92 17.11.113 18.16.124
Lions 6.1.37 13.1.85 18.4.112 21.10.136

Brownlow Votes: 3 J Brown (BL), 2 S Black (BL), 1 H Scotland (car)

The first game I ever took my son to which is probably the reason it pipped the 07 Collingwood game for selection in the 20-1. An absolute shootout, Browny was on fire and at one stage we had kicked 10 goals without a miss. Unbelievable game.

18. Lions v Carlton, Round 9, 2003 Princes Park

Carlton 3.2.20 8.4.52 9.7.61 11.10.76
Lions 2.2.14 6.5.41 14.11.95 23.15.153

Brownlow Votes: 3 S Hart (BL), 2 N Lappin (BL), 1, C Johnson (BL)

The back to back champions travelled to Princes Park to face the wooden spooners Carlton, and at half time everyone was thinking they were at the wrong game, the blues fans were going nuts and so to was Leigh Matthews. 17 goals to 3 in the second half put an end to all that, a fantastic comeback and great game.

17. Fitzroy v Fremantle, Round 8, 1996 Western Oval

Fitzroy 5.3.33 8.3.51 13.7.85 16.11.107
Fremantle 2.1.13 3.5.23 4.10.34 10.16.76

Brownlow Votes: 3 C Johnson (fitz), 2 A Mellington (fitz), 1 S Bamford (fitz)

A massive 5083 people showed up to watch our one and only win of 1996, 5 weeks before becoming the Brisbane Lions. It wasn’t the prettiest game to watch and will never be regarded as a classic but the scenes in the crowd during and after the game will long be remembered.

16. Lions v Collingwood, Round 22, 1999 Victoria Park

Collingwood 1.1.7 3.3.21 3.3.21 8.4.52
Lions 6.4.40 8.6.54 10.11.71 13.16.94

Brownlow Votes: S Lawrence (BL), 2 N Lappin (BL), 1 C Keating (BL)

Collingwood’s last ever game at Vic park, what better way to rain on this parade than by belting them. We were never headed and in the crowd we were completely outnumbered which made it all the better as we rubbed it in all day.

15. Fitzroy v Carlton, Round 1, 1993 Princes Park.

Carlton 4.2.26 9.6.60 15.8.98 17.10.112
Fitzroy 5.4.34 6.10.46 10.14.74 17.16.118

Brownlow Votes: 3 G Williams (car), 2 M Armstrong (fitz), 1 R Welsh (car)

We came in to round 1 with high hopes in 93 but were four goals down at ¾ time only for scores to be level with 20 seconds to go from a Carlton behind. Enter Peter Caven’s torpedo to Brett Stephens on the wing and another bomb to Michael Dunstan to kick the winner on the bell.

14. Fitzroy V Adelaide, Round 8, Football Park 1994

Adelaide 1.2.8 3.5.23 7.10.52 9.12.66
Fitzroy 2.5.17 4.7.31 6.8.44 15.9.99

Brownlow Votes: 3 A Jarman (adel), 2 D Hawkins (fitz), 1 B Boyd (fitz)

Wow, what an unexpected result travelled to Adelaide not expecting much at all but they played out of their skin. The only downfall was to come out to see our car (with Fitzroy stickers and Victorian plates) have its tyres slashed

13. Fitzroy v West Coast, Round 24, Princes Park 1991

Fitzroy 0.5.5 1.9.15 7.14.56 14.15.99
West Coast 3.5.23 5.11.41 5.14.44 12.17.89

Brownlow Votes: 3 R Lyon (fitz), 2 P Roos (fitz), 1 A Lynch (fitz)

The last game of the year and the only way to avoid the wooden spoon was to beat top of the table West Coast. It was Matty Rendells last game before going to the Bears and we sent him off on style.

12. J Brown V Essendon, Round 6, Telstra Dome 2005

Essendon 3.2.20 6.6.42 11.14.80 12.16.88
Lions 7.0.42 13.3.81 19.6.120 21.10.136

Brownlow Votes: 3 J Brown (BL), 2 N Lappin (BL), 1 L Power (BL)

There is no better feeling than belting these P***ks, and this night was no exception. Browny was unstoppable on his return to football and scored “perfect” from Leigh Matthews in the B & F. I think I may have even declared id turn gay for him that night, sorry.

11. Lions V Geelong, Kardinia Park 98, 00, 01, 02 & 03

I always hated going to Kardinia Park it was cold and we were so outnumbered. But I soon came to love it; fear of going down there soon turned into a game you would mark on your Calender. The Bears always had a good record down there maybe it could continue as lions. I still remember cheering, singing and rubbing it in at the ground (and all the way back up the highway).

10. Fitzroy v Melbourne, Round 17, Waverly Park 1979

Fitzroy 7.7.49 14.14.98 26.17.173 36.22.238
Melbourne 2.1.13 2.5.18 4.8.32 6.12.48

As a 6 year old cant say I remember too much of this match except for that I was sick of waving my flag. A record score at the time 2nd now only to Geelong and the winning margin of 190 points is still the greatest winning margin in VFL/AFL history.

9. Lions v Geelong, Preliminary Final, MCG 2004
Lions 3.3.21 6.4.40 9.10.64 12.12.84
Geelong 3.5.23 5.8.38 8.12.60 10.15.75

This game was played at the MCG but the AFL robbed us of our Home ground and advantage and I believe our 4th flag. It was close all day and Browny hurt his knee which cost us the next week. I still truly believe we would have smashed them in Brisbane and been fresh for the GF.

8. Fitzroy v North Melbourne, Round 13, Junction Oval 1983

Fitzroy 8.4.52 13.8.86 24.11.155 34.16.220
North Melbourne 2.2.14 8.3.51 10.5.65 10.10.70

North were on top of the ladder and flying having won their last 6 games by an average of 10 goals and we thrashed them by 150 points. With Superboot, Matty Rendell and Gary Wilson starring.

7. Fitzroy v Geelong, 1989 Reserves Grand Final, MCG

Geelong 3.3.21 9.5.59 15.10.100 16.16.112
Fitzroy 2.4.16 7.7.49 11.10.76 17.12.114

We had a pretty good side in 89 missing out on the finals by a game and the reserves made the big one, somehow we got tickets!!. The boys went the man in the third quarter trailed by 39 points. In the last quarter we fought back and a goal from Tony Woods with 3 minutes to go put us in front. Best bit was Geelong made all 3 GF’s that day and lost the lot!!

6. Fitzroy v Sydney, 1986 1st Semi Final, MCG

Sydney 3.2.20 8.5.53 11.8.74 13.11.89
Fitzroy 4.4.28 6.8.44 8.14.62 13.16.94

Sydney had finished 2nd where as we had just scraped in to the finals and past Essendon in the Elimination Final. But we did have our two best players returning Bernie Quinlan and Matt Rendell it poured rain for most of the day but the lions were to good.

http://www.fullpointsfooty.net/fitzroy's_last_hurrah.htm

5. Fitzroy v Collingwood, Round 11, Princes Park 1992

Fitzroy 1.5.11 6.9.45 10.12.72 13.14.92
Collingwood 0.5.5 3.7.25 6.9.45 13.11.89

Brownlow Votes: 3 T Francis (coll), 2 M Gale (fitz), 1 M Seecamp (fitz)
We had Collingwood beat all day then they kicked the 7 goals in the last quarter, with the last from ex lion Gary Pert to hit the front only for Captain Paul Roos to snap one over his head for the win. We went ballistic.

4. Fitzroy v Essendon, Qualyfing Final, Waverly Park 1986

Fitzroy 4.2.26 4.4.28 6.8.44 8.10.58
Essendon 2.1.13 4.3.27 7.5.47 8.9.57

This is my greatest Fitzroy memory probably because I hate Essendon but it wasn’t really expected No Quinlan or Rendell and they always seemd to beat us when it counted. Not this time Micky Conlan had hardly had a touch all day, then the ball came over the back he goaled, lions infront game over.

3. Lions v Collingwood, 2002 Grand Final, MCG

Lions 0.4.4 4.12.36 8.14.62 10.15.75
Collingwood 1.4.10 4.4.28 8.10.58 9.12.66

The last 3 pick themselves really, but choosing the best is like trying to pick your favourite children You Love them all!! I went for this one purely as we didn’t really play that well and it wasn’t as enjoyable to watch, too nerve wracking.

2. Lions v Essendon, 2001 Grand Final, MCG

Lions 3.7.25 5.10.40 11.12.78 15.18.108
Essendon 3.2.20 8.6.54 9.8.62 12.10.82

This was fantastic I was in tears from about halfway through the last quarter having waited 30 years, more for my parents and to beat Essendon it was oh so sweet.

1. Lions v Collingwood, 2003 Grand Final, MCG

Lions 5.5.35 11.7.73 14.12.96 20.14.134
Collingwood 3.3.21 4.7.31 9.7.61 12.12.84

The reason I chose this as no.1 is we were undermanned and Collingwood were supposedly going to belt us, Never Ever underestimate a Champion.

2001 Final vs Carlton-Always great to Knock off the Blues particually in a final.
1980 GF Vs Coll-The day KB could not be stopped.

1997 Rnd 22 Vs Carl-Last game of the year.Carlton playing at home needing to win to make the finals. All looked good early,Which made it even sweeter to come from behind and watching 30,000 Blue fans cry.

Can,t remember the year:
*Richo kicking 10 vs the Doggies.2004 i think?
*Dreamtime at th G vs Ess,We lead all night.Bombers came back to hit the lead late.Jarrod Oakley Nicholls kicks the winning point :D 2007 i think?
no we won 07, must have been 08?

J.Brown v Ess is such a true comment, that was the best performance i have ever seen by a player, so dominate and powerfull with everything he did that night.
I left disapointed with the loss but also left knowing anyone who watched that match would never forget what they saw that night.

In the last quarter Browny went for the ball on the boundry but he was beaten for it by 5 players teaming up on him(the only time we beat him that night :()play went up the other end and the crowd was quiet, so the old man yells out "get off the ground Brown you have done nothin all night" Brown turns around with a big grin on his face and gave a thumbs up, Classic.

I don't want to write too much so I'm doing 5

1: 2009 Preliminary Final, Stk Vs WB.
St Kilda 9.6 (60) def. Western Bulldogs 7.11 (53)
Two pieces of commentary stick out from this game that I will never forget.
"Jones... Dal Santo... look out Riewoldt hands to it couldn't hang on... Loose Ball! GUESS WHO! IT'S ONLY FITTING!"
"Seven points... Can the dogs do something here I doubt it! Time is gonna beat them. And St Kilda's gonna beat them! *siren* St Kilda into a Grand Final! WHAT A GAME!"

2005 Prelim was sticking in my gut all night and at 3qtr time I was literally saying "Don't f*** up..." over and over again, but Riewoldt's domination saved my nerves from shattering and we were into the first Grand Final i'd be interested in :D

2: 2005 Qualifying Final, Adelaide vs St Kilda
Adelaide 8.9 (57) St Kilda 10.5 (65)
"It's over! The Saints are through to a Preliminary Final!"
Robert Harvey. 90's brilliance relived that night, and it gave me the hope of a Premiership, sadly Sydney had other plans contrary to 2004's Semi Final...

3: Round 6 2004 Brisbane Vs St Kilda.
St Kilda 13.14 (92) Brisbane Lions 14.7 (91)
"Black... Voss... Schwarze now! The Defender! Can run... and from a long way... Roost it! AND PUT THE SAINTS IN FRONT!"
One of the best... only soured by being a H/A game and the whole thing about Aussie Jones' OOTF, but nonetheless brilliant game and a great memory.

4: 2008 Round 16 St Kilda Vs Hawthorn.
St Kilda 18.11 (119) Hawthorn 13.11 (89)
"Can just about run to the 50... Jones give Chase! Magnificent Tackle!" *Crowd Screaming Ball*

Down and out at Half Time, Blake's sheer dominance in the third proved the winner, and we ran out comfortable 30 point winners after trailing by as much as 30 at Half Time with no effort put in the game by us till that point. Great win and gave us a bit more hope for 2008 and could prove to be a part of the catalyst for seasons beyond.

5: 2009 Qualifying Final St Kilda Vs Collingwood
St Kilda 12.8 (80) def. Collingwood 7.10 (52)
"...and the Roo runs onto it! Can he kick a 5th and Ice it? Ice it!? HE CAN! The Captain, you reckons put them into the Prelim!"
While not the flashiest of games, I have many Collingwood fans as friends and they were ragging on all week about how we're gonna choke how they finished the season better yadda yadda... well Roo's 5 Goals put a foot in their mouth, and gave us a Prelim spot, and me... plenty of bragging material :D

Just pointing out I rounded it out to ten matches now for fun :D

Was going to go to that game. My best friends family were all Swans fans too, we lived in the Dandenong area so it was a bit of a hike out there and i was only 14 or so at the time. My mates old man decided not to head out there at the last minute as we were relying on him for a lift. :D Would have been special to see.

1- any win over carlton, dont hate them that much, just hate losing to them. whole family supports them.
2- EF 2004 VS DEES.
3- round 22, 2009 vs hawks.
4- 2009 vs St kilda
5-2009 vs collingwood
6- 2001 vs north
7-2007 vs west coast
8-2001 qualifying final vs richmond
9-2004 vs hawks
10-2006 vs sydney

in no order and going to avoid finals games

- 2003 round 8 v Collingwood @ Etihad
(smashed them in the 1st qtr, then they dragged themselves back into it and into the lead early in the last qtr only for us to finish strongly and win)
- 1998 round ? v Port Adelaide @ AAMI
(cousins single handedly won the game i wet conditions, such a physical grind of a match)
- 1998 round ? v Bulldogs @ WACA
(dogs led 52-4 at qtr time, then we came back and ended up winning 113-100)
- 2002 round 5 v Brisbane @ Subiaco
(no one expected anything from the eagles in this match but amazingly they won very comfortably and it was from here on in things started looking up and the we knew that the Judge era was over)
- 2000 round 1 v North Melbourne @ MCG
(spanked the premiers at the 'g' doesnt get much sweeter)
- 2006 round 10 v Geelong @ Skilled
(the comeback)
- 2006 round 17 v Adelaide @ Subiaco
(we were wobbling a bit and the Crows looked awesome, but we gave them an 80 point belting and this set off the run of form that lead us to the flag)
- 2004 round 19 v Brisbane @ Gabba
(building niceley at the end of the year, the boys pulled of a huge upset beating the top team at home in a real struggle)
- 1999 round 4 v Essendon @ Subiaco
(going into it both teams were unbeaten and then we flattened them and kept them to a final score of around 25)
- 2004 round 4 v Essendon @ etihad
(gave them an 8 goal head start then decided to get going almost pinched it but hird killed us at the death, awesome match)

there hasn't been too many memorable bulldog matches given our "tragic" history but here goes:

1. 2006 Elimination Final Bulldogs v Collingwood: watching all those collingwood supporters in the bay next to us leave halfway through the 3rd quarter was absolutely priceless. monty kicking 4 goals stuck it up brodie holland!

2. 2006 Rd 4 Bulldogs v Geelong @ Etihad.
Both matches that yr decided by a point and both absolutely cracker games. Best remembered from Gilbee's run and carry from the kick out to the centre of the ground.

3. 2009 Rd 9 Bulldogs v Geelong @ Etihad.
Just missed out on the final siren from a difficult shot by Johnno but the standard of the game has to be right up there with one of the bests games ever played.

4. 2000 Rd 21 Essendon v Bulldogs @ Etihad.
Essendon undefeated. Bulldogs coming into the game needing 25+ goals to win according to Terry Wallace. Watched the game from home live on the telly as it was a sellout and was absolutely wrapped to be celebrating my b'day with a win like that!

5. 1998 Rd 22 North Melbourne v Bulldogs @ MCG
Last round of the year. First v Second. Winner claims top spot. We managed to control the majority of the game until the final qtr. Enter Wayne Carey. He managed to step in when it mattered for north. Another great spectacle of our game.

6. 1999 Rd 16 Bulldogs v Crows @ MCG.
Down by 40+ points at 3/4 time. My folks were ready to leave the ground but I said wait until the first 5 minutes to see what unfolds and ended up staying for the entire game to witness one of the greatest comebacks I've witnessed. A slight revenge on the Crows after those back to back Prelim losses against them.

7. 2006 Rd 1 Bulldogs v Tigers @ Etihad
Perfect example of karma displayed towards Judas Brown and Terry Wallet. Club's record winning margin against the Tigers and watching the father in law leave the match in the 3rd qtr was priceless!

8. 2008 Rd 4 Bulldogs v Saints @ Etihad.
Got to the game late a minute before qtr time. As soon as I entered the gate Josh Hill kicked the first goal for us to make the scores 7 goals to 1 in favour of St.Kilda. From there on end it was the Bulldogs Show as we smashed them by 40 odd points.

9. 2000 Rd 4 Bulldogs v Carlton @ Etihad.
Jack Elliott before the game mentioning about our "tragic history". Up by 30-40 points when a doggies supporter infront of me started chanting "Elliott's a w***er" which erupted around the whole ground!

10. 2010 NAB Cup Grand Final.
Barry Hall kicking 7 on Dawson. Nothing more to say really.

Wow, great thread. :thumbsu::)

I'm going to cheat as well, some of my favourites aren't Hawthorn games.

1. 2008 Grand Final
Hawthorn 18.7 (115) Geelong 11.23 (89)

"It's their day. Hawthorn, the champions."
"That's what I'm talking about!"

How could it be anything else. I was born just after our glory era (1993) and had lived through a near merger, and many years of mediocrity with only 2001 as a minor highlight. Special win, with only 2 fit men in the second half against one of the best teams of the modern era.

2. 2007 1st Elimination Final
Hawthorn 15.15 (105) Adelaide 15.12 (102)

"Franklin, has 6. This, with just a few seconds left in the elimination final, Ohhhh Lance Franklin you are a sensation!"

Have put this ahead of a few others, simply because it never fails to get me out of my seat every time I see Buddy belt through that goal. They led most of the day, looked home after Torney kicked an arsey goal with a few minutes left. We were selling our house at the time, and had a very non-footy family walking though during the third quarter as we were 'passionately' trying to get our team over the line. Needless to say, they didn't buy the place! :)

3. 2008 Preliminary Final
Hawthorn 18.10 (118) St Kilda 9.10 (64)

"Here's Crawford, looking for some more September glory! Will his ultimate dream come true? Astounding goal from Shane Crawford, and surely the hawks have one foot in the Grand Final..."

The only final I have ever seen Hawthorn play live, and it's a pretty special memory. Booked the flight as soon as we beat the Dogs, walked from the city to the ground soaking in the atmosphere, sat in the Olympic stand and watched us put on a clinic. Hodge was amazing, had cracked ribs and refused to come off, Williams was amazing and Bateman completely shut down Dal Santo. Was a pleasure to see a champion like Robert Harvey get chaired off for the last time as well.

4. 2009 1st Semi Final
Collingwood 12.11 (83) Adelaide 11.12 (78)

"Hope in his heart, dreams in his head, Jack Anthony... HE'S DONE IT! Forget all of the goals he's ever kicked before, he'd trade them all for that one!"

Didn't involve the hawks, but was simply the best game of football I have ever seen live. Shaw and Thomas dragged Collingwood back into it after they trailed by 26 at half time, and we all know about Jack Anthony's winner. The roar when the siren went was something.

5. 2001 Semi Final
Hawthorn 10.12 (72) Port Adelaide 10.9 (69)

Johnny Barker! Remember this pretty clearly, Port were raging favourites at home and was the week after 9/11 where Daniel Chick lost a brother in law. Roger James tore it apart in the third quarter to give them a 17 point lead and Williams took them over in front of their fans at 3 quarter time. Enter Johnny, who kicked 2 goals in the last 5 minutes from Footy Park's dead pocket to give us a win. Perfect!

Didn't want to overload a post, so here are 6-10

6. 2008 Qualifying Final
Hawthorn 18.19 (127) Western Bulldogs 11.10 (76)

"This'll be interesting Lake against Franklin, *Buddy taps to himself and onto the left in one motion* Oh gee he's so good isn't he, that is a miracle goal, he's extraordinary."

Buddy kicked a massive bag, we never looked like losing, and stormed into our first preliminary final in 7 years with a crushing win. Not a bad night's footy!

7. Rd 17 2001
Hawthorn 15.6 (96) Carlton 13.15 (93)

"Chick plays on, seconds only remaining they've gotta take a mark.. OH! DIXON HAS TAKEN A MARK WITH 5 SECONDS REMAINING! *Siren* Ooooh dear! What a climax we have to Round 17!

Dixon, with 8 or 9 Carlton players all around him on the mark, all doing a war dance, this is crazy he says! He shoots for goal.... HE KICKS THE GOAL! AND HAWTHORN WINS THE GAME!"

What a finish! Chick runs down Doering with 15 seconds left, turns around and belts it back inside 50, and we all know what happens next. This was after Carlton led by as much as 26 points at one stage, pretty special comeback.

8. 2005 Semi Final
Sydney 7.14 (56) Geelong 7.11 (53)

"Swans need a goal! Nick Davis! Nick Davis! I don't believe it! I see it, but I don't believe it!"

The most remarkable last quarter of footy I've seen. Nick Davis kicked all 4 of Sydney's goals in the last quarter, after they trailed all night and only had kicked 3 goals to 3 quarter time. A perfect set play from the Swans, as they charged towards the 05 flag.

9. Rd 7 2000
Hawthorn 19.19 (123) Western Bulldogs 14.8 (93)

Vague memories, my first visit to the MCG, first live Hawthorn game. In Anthony Rock's 250th, Thompson kicked 6 and Kris Barlow dobbed a bomb late in the last quarter to seal the deal.

10. Rd 5 2006
Hawthorn 12.12 (84) Essendon 12.11 (83)

In driving rain, Crawford dominated, and Williams kicked a goal in the last 10 seconds to get us over the scum by a point.

And the most ironic thing about that was that one R.D Barassi dragged Lockett in the middle of the last quarter sitting on 16.0!
Should've (and most likely would've) knocked off Fred Fanning's 18 goal record.
I remember listening to this game on the radio and the ABC commentators were flabbergasted as to why Barassi dragged him with the record in sight.

1. Round 3 2004 vs. West Coast. I was the only Essendon supporter in a room full of Eagles fans watching this. Hird's goal all time great footy moment.

2. Round 16 2001 vs. North Melbourne. Greatest comeback of all time!

3. Round 22 2007 vs. West Coast. Scott Lucas kicked 7 in the last quarter. Hirdy and Sheedy's last game.

4. Elimination Final 2004 vs. Fremantle. Only final I've ever been too. Nobody in Perth thought Freo could lose.

5. ANZAC Day 2009 vs. Collingwood. Zaharakis!!!!!!!

6. ANZAC Day 2003 vs. Collingwood. I think this was the year, anyway it was the one where Hird absolutely tore the game apart in the last quarter.

7. Grand Final 2000 vs. Melbourne. Had to be on here

8. Round 3 1999 vs. Sydney. All I remember is Lloyd Kicking 13 :D

9. Round 20 2009 vs. St Kilda. There was no way we were gunna let St Kilda match our 20 wins in a row

10. Can't think of anything else atm.. Grand Final 2011??

This is in no particular order...

Round 10, 1975 Richmond 19.14 (128) vs Essendon 12.9 (81) - this was the first real footy game I ever attended. As an immigrant moving to Australia late 1973, I hadn't been caught up with the Footy Fever... I started of supporting Essendon because my neighbor told me too, but still never really seen a game, I just collected footy cards and got teased cause the Bombers were shiat that time.... Than one fateful day, a kid asked me if I barracked for Richmond? I asked him why, and he pointed at my t-shirt which had a tiger on it with my name. I said sure. So now I was a true Tiger supporter (got teased at school again, because I was a turn-coat and supported the Tigers because they were on top. I remember listening to the 1974 Grand Final and followed the Tigers success. In 1975 a teacher asked if anyone wanted to borrow a Tigers membership for the game at Princess Park against Carlton, and I got it. Unfortunately me and my dad arrived a little late and the ground was fully packed and we couldn't get in. My dad promised me we go to next week's game. We went! We were hooked, and we attended every home game + VFL Park games to 1981 till we moved to Sydney in 1982.

Round 20, 1975 Richmond 13.20 (98) vs Carlton 14.11 (95) - Again 1975 (a good year for football). This was the most exiting game I ever went to. It was highly skillfull at that time, exiting all day.. and I think we won the game with the last goal of the day. It's a pity that probably no copy of this games exists today as channel seven probably has wiped it.

Round 11, 1975 St.Kilda 14.18 (102) vs Richmond 13.12 (90) - still in 1975. Although we lost, this game was memorable (painfully) because we had such a massive lead at half-time. I remember me, my friend and dad sitting next to some Saints supporters and my dad was bragging how painful it must be to be following a team like St.Kilda. The Saints started to come back in the third quarter, and we were going ape. When they hit in front at the final quarter and then kicked another one, my dad hid embarrassingly behind his scarf, and quickly said he wanted to leave!!!

Round 13, 1976 Richmond 15.12 (102) vs Geelong 14.14 (98) - Don't remember too much about the game, but what stands out in memory is that on the morning before the game, I woke up and etched with a pencil on my wall the numbers 102 - 98. Didn't know why and didn't think to much about it, but after the game.. I remembered.. and told my dad... I wrote this score down at home... spooky... If there was footy betting back then, would have made a bundle...

Well this is going on too long, so I'll stop here and write later the remaining six games...

might as well go on.....

Round 16, 1975 - South Melbourne 8.12 (60) vs Richmond 26.11 (167) - yep back again to 1975! This was the first time I saw the Tigers win by 100 points. Also remember that the Lake Side Oval was the most picturesque ground at the time. Shamed it isn't used for footy today.

Round 7, 1981 - Fitzroy 13,14 (92) vs Richmond 12.16 (88) Three teams (Tigers, Lions and Hawks) were fighting for the fifth spot in 1981. I always from the beginning have had a soft spot for Fitzroy - I remember in 1974, my collection of Footy Cards, I thought the Lions had the best jumper (the darkish red, not the bright red they changed to). Anyways we arrived at the Junction Oval and my dad said he could understand why people supported the Lions, nice cozy home ground feeling against the massive MCG. He should never had that! I remember I was secretly hoping the Lions to win. My dad noticed something was up, as I was fanatically going ape about the Tigers going down. I just mumbled.. don't know.. I kinda like Fitzroy... he was not impressed! I think after that day.. I was a closet Fitzroy supporter (might have been from day 1 if I had chosen my team carefully) and was devastated that the name Fitzroy died after the 1996 season. I've tried to look the merger as Fitzroy moving to Brisbane (like South Melbourne - Sydney), but the feeling is not there, so I am a Richmond supporter.

Qualifying Final, 1980 - Carlton 10.14 (74) vs Richmond 18.8 (116) - I remember heading to VFL Park with our heads down, as we really thought we were gonna get thrashed. We had lost top position, getting smashed by lowly South Melbourne in the final round. It was so disappointing feeling cause we had been the best team of the year. What a surprise as the Tigers smashed the Blues! Topping off the feeling, was my favorite player Kevin Bartlett (had 29 on the back of my jumper since 75) have such an outstanding game, that even Blues supporters started clap him. He had an outstanding final series. (In 1996 Mr Bartlett and his radio station rang me at 0500 in the morning, in Sweden, interviewing me about team I had started in Sweden - Helsingborg Saints. I remember being sleepy and shocked, and forget to tell him that he was my favorite player... so if your reading Kev.. thanks for the memories.

Three games to go....

Last three...

Round 1, 1982 - Sydney 20,17 (137) vs Melbourne 16,12 (108) - In 1982 we moved to Sydney and luckily there was a footy team moving there as well..
Still barracking for the Tigers (secretly the Lions), I guess I had to support the Swans as well, as these were the only games I could attend. It was hard at the beginning, as South Melbourne meant nothing to me (apart from Lakeside Oval), and always thought their jumpers were the ugliest (the red hasn't helped much). I remembered snickering when the Sydney siders applauded the behinds. Things got better.. the got the Swanettes to stare at if the game got boring, and they started to play very exiting footy... and I supported them at the time with all my heart.... Not a supporter of them now, but was wrapped when they ended their Premier draught.

1975, 1976, 1980, 2002 - Tigers beating Magpies - always a great feeling seeing Richmond beat Collingwood.

DAFL Round 6, 1997 - Copenhagen 7,17 (59) vs Helsingborg 12,10 (82) - thought I wrap it up with the team I support more than the AFL. The team I founded Helsingborg from Sweden playing in the Danish League. On this day, Helsingborg Saints traveled to play the Copenhagen Crocodiles, who were higher up on the ladder than us. The Saints were only 14 men, with only 1 not so experienced Aussie. The Crocodiles on the other hand were 21 with 5 good Aussies. Don't know how we did it, but after the first quarter we had kicked 7,1 (43) to the Crocs 1,4 (10). The Crocs did come back, but their woeful kicking meant we could win comfortably, a heroic performance!

The weirdest game I've ever been to (actually goal umpired) was the 1999 DAFL Grand Final... check out why:

http://www.thefootyrecord.net/index.php?content1=match&m=397

The Barras kicked the final goal with 5 seconds to go....

Question is - has this kind of game ever happened anywhere else?

Only going to do Brisbane Lions not Fitzroy

10. 2004 Preliminary Final against Geelong: Good and bad memories, if we had of played at home we would have at least been in the GF in the final 5-10 minutes giving us a chance, but then again Essendon had a bad run in with the weather and injures in 01 so can't really complain (we still would have won though). However, rules are rules and Port earned the right to play the Prelim at home, it was just a stupid rule.

9. 2013, round 13 against Geelong: 52 point comeback, enough said.

8. 2007, round 17 against Collingwood: Just a great night, smashed them by 90 odd, Brennan kicked 7 :), and to add, we had beaten the Blues by 120 with Browny bagging 10 the week before! :):D:p

7. 2003 Preliminary Final against Sydney: Sydney had the momentum leading into the final term but we dug deep and won by about 9 goals. (Also this was the last Super Saturday, bring it back!)

6. 2005, round 6 against Essendon: We all knew he was good, but this was the night Browny stamped his authority

5. 2009 Elimination Final against Carlton: Down 30 points early in the final quarter, rolled 'em.

4. 2001 Preliminary Final against Richmond: To know at half time that in 7 days you will play in the first GF you've seen your team play is the most nerve racking experience that last a week I've ever had.

3. 2002 Grand Final against Collingwood: Wasn't pretty, should have lost really, credit to a young Collingwood. Crap conditions and our stars stepped up when it mattered.

2. 2001 Grand Final against Essendon: First premiership I ever witnessed, never forget it.

1. 2003 Grand Final against Collingwood: Going in underdogs, had it won at quarter time, there was no stopping us.

Ripped off the geelong board, but the gist remains the same - list your top ten favourite/most memorable matches involving your club:

1 - 2002 Grand Final, Collingwood vs Brisbane. The best game i have ever seen. effort and courage of both sides unbelieveable. pies were all heart for the entire day. the wet weather helped make the day what it was.

2 - 2002 Preliminary Final, Collingwood vs Adelaide. Having started following the Pies in 1997, i was yet to see the pies in the finals. this was the day the giant awoke. shivers down the spine just remembering the noise. it was amazing. the third quarter came from somewhere else - goals to neon leon, josh fraser (after steinfort copped a huge hit for the team), rupert betheras (bending it arrrrrouuund the boundary under pressure and setting the mcg into a crazed chant of 'rupe rupe rupe' is shivers down the spine stuff), glenn freeborn (storming out of the centre and drilling a beauty, you could always count on freeza) and then the monster launch from rocca, about 70m from goal, after a long weaving johnson-lonie run just topped it off beautifully. the stands were shaking. no noise has ever been louder, imo. subsequent goals to steinfort, nick davis and didak felt like lifting pots of gold from the end of the rainbow. :) will never forget the feeling - WE ARE IN THE GRAND FINAL! and it didn't matter what the odds were, we were there, we had the chance. beautiful.

3 - 2002 Qualifying Final Collingwood vs Port Adelaide. again, 2002, but another amazing performance from an amazing football team. rank outsiders, but we did it. watching on a big screen at the hotel we were staying at was gripping. ben johnson's tackle on burgoyne was akin to the reassuring words 'it'll be ok, it'll be fine' you hear before getting an injection as a child. again, 22 committed and competitive players who worked as one force, all in the absence of bucks.

4 - 2009 Semi-Final Collingwood vs Adelaide. maybe because it's so fresh in my memory, but this was something superb. nearly, nearly down and out at half time, the pies knew they had something left. the crowd reached 2002-prelim proportions in noise in the third quarter. imo it singlehandedly willed brad dick to three contests to chase/tackle/harrass before the ball ended up OOB due to his pressure. felt such spirit and passion, wild, fierce, crazed passion in the crowd. spirit. unbreakable, it felt. just KNEW we were going to win when johnson slammed home his two goals in the third term. typical ben johnson kicks for goal, long, strong and never in doubt. the feeling after our final three goals, to macaffer, leigh brown and finally jack anthony gave such a strength of power and glory in one's self - as if you were the king of the world. unstoppable. eternal power and strength. such is the power of football and emotion. leigh brown's goal was so heartwarming. written off by everyone in footy bar his own, he stood up when it was needed. still feel so proud for him. shows that, if you work hard enough, when your turn comes, and it will come, you, too, can be a hero. his celebration stuck it up the doubters, and the call from huddo was a ripper 'will it be a GOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLL! OF COURSE IT IS!'. yesss! then jack's match winner, unbelieveable stuff. that feeling throughout the second half, where you're hugging all around you as if you've known them forever (maybe you have?), and looking the guy you've struck up a friendship with in the eye with a 'we're gonna win it i know it and you do too we're gonna win it and stick it right up them' look, as well as sharing it with one of your very best mates....i'm sure we all know the feeling. well, most of us. i hope everyone gets to experience this one day, as it is the most powerful, manic, desperately awesome feeling you can experience. the scenes when the siren went and post game confirmed to me all i already knew - collingwood is special. it isn't just a football club. it is a concept. it is believing. it is meaning. it did feel like there was another element to it, as if the likes of rose, coventry, collier, millane and thompson were looking down on the club that night. maybe. i like to dream. but this was one for the memory bank. thinking now, how did this not make it to number one? :p

5. Semi-Final 2007, Collingwood vs West Coast. a phenominal season, and a truly amazing night. remember thinking during the third term when we were 3-goals down that 'surely, surely this season cannot finish here, like this, in perth, miles away?'. within minutes, trav cloke and roccax2 (aided by guy richards in a 5m purple patch) turned the game on its head. the ensuing final term and extra-time period was enough to make you cry, but love, all at once. had that 'vomit is rising' feeling in my stomach and mind all through the last term. we're in front, daisy has goaled! uh oh, we're up the creek, le cras goals. hold it, hold it, heeeelllp as embley and glass have shots from 50m+ out from goal. they miss, scores are tied. dear God, jimmy clement, that kick is too close to the boundary! thank goodness for o'bree marking it. pies go forward. 1m to go. just score for goodness sake! do it pies hurrrry up. can't look, but can't look away. that horribly wonderful feeling you wouldn't trade for ANYTHING yet hate all at once. if it happens, the horror. 'we're going to overtime!' screams cometti. watnow. i lean on the lexus centre bar, eyes red, glazed over, no voice left, rasping to the bar tender 'canivadrinkawaterplease'. a 2minute breather. back to the house of pain. but, somehow, on the wide subiaco sea, the pies look better. medhurst gathers, steadies, hands off to chrissy bryan and bryzer storms in to give us the lead! yayah! staker misses a crucial goal, thank you thank you thank you. then the young guns work it forward through sheer work. trav cloke, thomas, marty clarke wedges a kick, pendles gathers, runs into goal 'there's nobody up ahead! this could be the ballgame!'. is this it? surely, this is it? braun's handball is intercepted, swanny takes the sherrin, now this IS it! open goal! siren! omgomgomg we're gonna take on geelong!!! what a feeling. the lexus centre was going berserk. singing and chanting with delerium. will never forget that night.

6. Collingwood vs Brisbane, R8 2002. hard and fast and physical footy all night long until three goals from rupert betheras in 10-minutes breaks the deadlock. bucks superb, mcgough copped a hammering from shaun hart but it bought us a chance at goal. wakelin's defensive work was stirring in the last quarter. ditto jason cloke. siren. pies by 3pts. the crowd just so loud through the tv.

7. Preliminary Final 2007, Collingwood vs Geelong. don't need to say much here. just that all sense of normality was sucked from the air/mcg as soon as the national anthem started. was the most violent footy rollarcoaster i've ever ridden. was like being on a flimsy raft in the midst of angry, violant, unpredictable waves. and sounded just like that. crashing against the shore. holding on for dear life. desparately searching for an escape route to paradise. ever so close to doing so. we just kept coming and coming all night. to a man, the pies were gallant and courageous. bryan with seven tackles, and shane o'bree nine typified our effort. did not quit for a second. it's amazing that, even in defeat, you can find out how much you love your club. am glad to see the cats do well atm, they deserve it. they have humility. seeing port dance in such a comedic fashion on the kangaroos body for 3qtrs the next day was a slap in the face. how could they get such a free ride to a chance at glory, when we were locked in such an epic arm wrestle?

8. Collingwood vs Essendon. R5 2002. Anzac Day. mcgough. rain. buckley's celebration. jason cloke's courage. burns' guts and determination. lonie on the burst. mckee's persistance. the pies just didn't give in, and ended up with a 33-pt or so win. really signalled that, hey, we can go places with this side.

9. Collingwood vs Carlton. R18 2002. sweet, sweet victory. by 107-points. buckley's 200th, superb game. three brownlow votes. betheras with two. fraser kicked five. chipper adkins, in his second game back, looked the part. joffa and his wooden spoon. seeing a fight in the southern stand, level three as a pies fan waved his spoons in carlton faces. magical.

10. Collingwood vs St Kilda. R14 2007. solid start in the wet, followed by some shambolic umpiring. probably the worst i have ever, ever seen. gehrig got such a free run vs wakelin. but in the last quarter, we still found a way. burns, licuria and o'bree kept pumping the ball in. thomas was magical, two freakish goals, only one paid, but both were stuff which lifts your spirits skyhigh. that feeling of leaping to my feet alongside 40,000 other fans as thomas slotted that wouldbegoal from the pocket. i won't forget.

plenty of honourable mentions to be made. could really go on forever here, as you no doubt can detect. should be interesting to read everyone's lists. bias is permitted, and encouraged. ;) :)

You didn't see the 2010 prelim against Geelong?? That was the loudest, most joyous, celebratory crowd and game ever. The chant was born - just thinking about it chills me.
