les bamblett was sensational at the Bulldogs albeit for a short time - charlie stewart (no. 7) for Footscray in the early 60s was very handy - a very very good player.

Awesome player the best outside of Carey I have ever seen.Originally posted by Monocle
Stephen Michael. The pity is that he never played VFL/ AFL.
He was even better than Adam Goods in the air, and as hard as Archer around the packs, with a tank that could run all day.
And you have SEEN how many of these players play.Originally posted by Mark Viduka
Syd Jackson
Peter Matera
Polly Farmer
All better than Winmar.

Its 50/50, iirc, half aboriginal, half italian. Makes for a very handy set of footballers in any case.

I saw Polly play, and Square Kilmurray, Steve Michael, Baz Campbell, Lewie, Winmar, Rioli's(Maurice and Sebby),Syd Jackson and a host of others.
Polly was the best by far but I rate Michael and Wanganeen up there with Matera and Aker.
Toughest - Baz Campbell by a country mile - ask Don Scott. He ran up the player's race during one WA/Vic State Game because Baz was after him. Wimp.
Winmar was the best and Muir the toughest, according to my dad.

Players of Aboriginal descent have won:
Two Brownlow Medals: Gavin Wanganeen (1993), then an Essendon player but now at Port Adelaide and Jason Akermanis of Brisbane in 2001.
Absolutely, I'm surprised it's taken until page 5 of this thread for that name to be mentioned!

I little off topic I know, but I think the best not to make it was Sean Charles. Great talent, horrid injuries that he was unable to overcome.
Shame he didn't make it.
