I still haven't got around to checking out Nile and Obituary's new work yet. I should have picked them up today when I was in the store, but instead I picked up the Number Of The Beast album for 10 bucks. Absolute bargain. Every time I had gone to buy it before another Maiden album had always been cheaper while NOTB had been 30 bucks or so. QUOTE]

I have have purchased like seven iron maiden albums for 10 bucks. Awesome stuff indeed.

I like albums from Sonic Syndicate, Machine Head, Dream theater, Arch Enemy, Eyefear, Porcupine Tree. They were my favs from 2007.

I think it has been a pretty average year for metal releases overall..

Paradise Lost - Requiem. Quality with a capital "Q".
Megadeth - United Abominations. Finally sound like a band again.
Hardcore Superstar - Dreaming in a Casket..awesome album from true Swedish sleaze metal royalty! This is my album of the year people!!!
It aint metal but Paul Stanley's solo album was actually pretty good.
Dimmu Borgir - No Stormblast but quality return.
Behemoth - great sound but just average IMO.
Dark Tranquility - I LOVE this band but Fiction seemed like it was just all the songs that didn't make Character.
New Overkill - just ok.

Biggest disapointment = New Iced Earth. Ordinary production, ordinary songs. Bye Bye Ripper. Thankfully, new Lizzy Borden (2008 release) heavy as hell as is new Seb Bach.

ignore the elitist clowns mate some of us actually do believe it is possible to enjoy the sheer brutality of a band such as Nile AND the symphonic blasting of Dimmu I quite enjoyed In Sorte Diaboli although the clean vox start to get on your nerves after a while.

BTW add 'The Fourth Season' by Vanishing Point to the list

An album i've been listening to for a few weeks is Eater Of Birds by Cobalt. Full on stealth attack by Cobalt, i'd never heard of them before this album. It would be in my top 5 for '07 for sure. Black metal at its best.

How could you not like Queensryche?

..just a whisper that there is a new Queensryche cover band busy rehearsing at the moment in Melbourne. Jungle drums suggest they sound damn good too.
