Some recent threads about travel had me remembering my travels from a few years ago, and some of the meals I had.

Sitting on the fence for my best, but my top 2 are - Thessaloniki, Greece, about 42 degrees, in a little gyros shop, temp went up by about 15 degrees with the burners going; big, hairy, sweaty greek bloke dripping sweat into the food , $1 each, they were absolutely fantastic.

Mongolian restaurant in Moscow, stir fried tofu, never ate it previously, never had it since, but god it was good. Actually think this shades the gyros.

I was sick as a dog in Barcelona last year and had to fly to Marrakech, got there slept, recovered and hit the Souks for a chicken tagine (despite my stomach saying otherwise). Honestly the best overseas meal Ive had.....they are incredible.

Had some awesome food in the USA as well, clam chowder in Boston and San Fran kicks ass!!.

chili crabs in singapore is the shit
also suckling pig and satay in malaysia are awesome.

had an awesome Waygu steak on the cruise i went on, technically overseas, lol

So hard to decide on just one!

Basil and Chilli Chicken stir fry (Gai Pad Grapow) on Koh Phangan, i've forgotten the name of the restaurant but i could lead you to it blindfolded from Haad Rin beach, thats how many times i've eaten there.

Pork and Noodle soup topped with sugar and some orange drink (at the suggestion of the street vendor) on the main rd of Chaweng Koh Samui.

Sushi at a place called Iwasa(?) at the Tsukiji fish markets in Japan

Seafood on the grill whilst sipping lemoncello in Positano, Italy

Wings down in the southern states of the US whilst drinking beers and watching sport.

Dinner at The French Laundry in the states, truly amazing.

I visited a few 3 star restaraunts through Europe, can't split them

-El Bulli, Spain
-Taillevent, France
-Pic, France
-Enotecca Piniciorri, Italy
-Le Calandre, Italy

Those restaurants are just so mind blowing but it's hard to justify going there more than once since I could eat that amazing chicken stir fry in thailand 3 times a day for a few years for the same price as the one night at any of those. Still a great thing to do if you ever have a chance.

The little gyros you get in Greece with the chips included are awesome. Same goes for the fish tacos in San Diego/Tijuana and the green/red curries they have in Thailand plus all the other awesome Thai dishes they have.

Worst overseas meal I had was when I ordered some poultry and chips meal in the Czech Republic, thinking it was going to be chicken and chips, and they brought out some disgusting looking duck with the head still attached. Didn't touch the duck and just ate the chips, meanwhile my mate was laughing his head off eating a big steak and chips.

Pork Knuckle in Munich. Absolutely melt-in-your-mouth delicious!

About ten years ago I had lunch in a little village halfway up the side of Mt Mayon in the Phillipines. All the food we had was grown in their village. Had what we thought was a fried steak which turned out to be the sliced up bulb of the banana plant. Hard to describe but there is so much protein in it and with all of the spices and whatever they put on it, it really looked and tasted like a steak.

Freshly picked vegetables and some of the juiciest fruits you could ever imagine. I will never forget that meal, cooked by a little old lady who had lived there her whole life, save for the times they had to leave because the volcano erupted and then they waited for the lava to cool and went back up and rebuilt.

Oh did I forget to say that Mt Mayon is a volcano? And that village doesn't exist anymore, at least in the form that I saw as Mt Mayon erupted a few years back and wiped it out.

Makes you appreciate what you have here a bit more.

1989 Bali, Bali Too Restaraunt, BBQ Turtle Steak and chips. I can see why they've become endangered.

Fell in love with salt and pepper squid in Vietnam.

A few stick out:

Spring rolls and nasi goreng from a joint on the street near our hotel in Singapore. My brother and I had been to the races, were fairly drunk and would have eaten 5 or so plates of spring rolls and fried rice etc. Awesome, especially when you consider it was probably their equivalent of that joint on Swanston St that is open all the time.

Tandoori chicken and banana pizza in malayasia at a place called Mario's which is run by the guy who owns The Roti Man in middle park. Awesome.

Buffalo wings and rack of ribs in Memphis at the blues city cafe.

1. Steak at Benjamin's Steak House in NYC (Was a Steak that was bigger than a hub cap and was cut into almost bite sized peices, designed to be shared by 4. Was the most tender, juicy steak I've ever had.
2. Buffet Breakfast at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore
3. A Steak Dinner at one of the restaurants in Le Meridien, Kuala Lumpur (Truffle Ravioli, Ratatouille and Black Angus)
4. Cornetto. Kuta Beach, Bali
