You overlook Ben Hudson who took the points against ALL of your listed players except Mumford. Yes he even had the better of Sandilands.

Mumford was suspended in the first meeting and went off injured in the semi final.

If you are going to rate on 2010 form Hudson is right up there.
Now you're struggling...

Some teams will play 1 ruck and a part timer, some two, some will mix it up depending on the opposition.

These teams seem to have their best 2 ruckmen set in stone and all are either A grade or youngsters pushing to that status as ruckmen:

Kangaroos: McIntosh & Goldstein
Brisbane: The Burger & Clark
Bombers: Hille & Ryder

So out of these three, which ruck duo will be the best performed in 2011?
would not swap kruze and warnock for any of them

would not swap kruze and warnock for any of them

And i'm sure north, brisbane and essendon would in no way want to swap either.

The poll needs a Sandilands + whoever (Bradley/Johnson/Griffin/Clarke etc.) option. He is just so much more valuable than any other ruck in the comp. Combined with any ruckman, part-timer or otherwise, the net effectiveness of the two must at least rival that of any of those mentioned.

Not that i'm biased. :D

goldy and Hmac because both gather plenty of possessions around the ground and kick goals most games. They are both very athletic and are the best ruck combo in the afl.

hille and ryder are my 3rd preference because hille will be 30 years old and past his prime and ryder is more of a kpp than a ruckman.

luey and clark are my 2nd choice, both young and have potential to become the best ruck combo

North duo is a good one as they're both genuine tap rucks, but McIntosh will have a delayed start to the season. Ryder and Hille are dangerous as they are both genuine forward targets. I'm biased, but I voted the Bomber pair. Clarke is a better player when he's flying solo.

They can be outstanding players but their reputation as being more versatile in comparison to other ruckman is turning into a bit of a myth. Goldstein and McIntosh are just as good in the forward line imo.

Hille probably is the best target but he lets himself down because he doesn't convert chances in front of goal.

It's a good poll though because it's hard to split the three pairs.

Naitanui and Cox out played both Hille and Ryder and Goldstein and Mcintosh when they played each other.

In order:
Sandilands & ???
Clarke & Burger / Cox & Naitanui
McIntosh & Goldstein
Mumford & Seaby

Not me who is struggling.

Perhaps you should take more notice of games yourself.
I watch the games with both eyes rather than just the one as you seem to. You have a highly skilled team with some very good players and Hudson is an honest trier but I reckon if Rocket had the opportunity to recruit some of the players mentioned on this thread to replace Hudson he would jump at it.

One of the main reasons Collingwood improved so much this year was due to the recruitment of Jolly who is a very good ruckman. I can't see you guys being a dominant force until you get at least one skilled big guy who can do more than knock the ball.

I voted Hille & Ryder - Obviously biased :D
However a few people have mentioned the others going forward, and rightly so, but Ryder is the only viable player at both ends, giving the Essendon combination an obvious advantage in versatility.

Hudson was in the top 4 ruckmen in the comp last year imo. You make a good point about Collingwood but Fraser was seen as a weakness along with a tough inside mid. Hudson isn't seen as a weakness in the current Dogs side. It's the forward line and another key defender to partner Lake imo. It's no secret that the Dogs struggle for options up forward and that's where the improvement is needed. Hall was awesome but that was offset by the form of Johnson, Akermanis, Higgins and Hahn, who's output was simply non existent compared to 2009.

Hudson is no star but he is nearly unmatched for consistency compared to other ruckmen.

An astute summation.

The Brisbane duo would have a slight advantage in the ruck contests, but McIntosh and Goldstein have the edge around the ground. When you throw in Petrie, then I have to give North my vote.

Interesting...I would say the opposite. McIntosh, Goldstein and Leuenberger are all similar but Clark would be the most versatile of them all, can play FF, CHB, midfielder and ruck effectively. His tap work is probably the worst of the 4. Hard to split the NM-Bris ruck division.

Hille used to be a horrid set shot, but he's not too bad these days. He's probably the best pack mark of the lot, but he's a pretty ordinary tap ruckman in comparison to Nic Nat, Sandilands or Mumford.

Goldstein is very good forward, but Ryder and Hille would easily have the advantage over McIntosh IMO.

In the options provided... I would go for the North Duo...

It's good to see no-one but Carlton fans rate our ruck stock...

After the Warnock/Hampson combo tore the Hille/Ryder to pieces I think a Kreuzer/Warnock combo is a level better...

Kreuzer has been completely owned and humiliated every time he has played against Essendon.

If you are talking about last year where Kreuzer grew another level before his injury... I wouldn't call 20 hitouts, 4 clearances and 14 disposals "humiliated"

especially when Hille only got 23 hitouts, 0 clearances and 15 disposals...
and Ryder only got 9 hitouts, 0 clearances and 12 disposals...

Exactly how is that humiliated?

Lets remember... Kruezer as a 20 year old was our number 1 ruckman that days... with Warnock second fiddle...

Now Warnock has started to show what he's capable of, he'll be the number 1 with Kruezer a very handy second...

If you're talking a teenage Kruezer being "humiliated"... I think you were the only one laughing...

In round 19, when Warnock put nearly every centre square hitouts down carlton throats... he single handly put you out of the game... 3 goals in the first 90second of the 4th quarter were three hitouts to the throat of carlton players that ended up in centre clearances and goals...

What about AA Mark Jamar and... um ... Colin Sylvia??? nvm

Good poll, I rate the north boys but I think the Dons take the cake, for all points metioned earlier.

Sorry Brizzy fans but I honestly haven't seen as much of your lads playing together. I do realise that they could be a force over the next few year though, from what I've I seen but I'll reserve judgment untill I see it.

Hilley might slow down this year (30 years this year). But ATM Ryder and Hille are the best Combo but for how long?? That north combo looks mighty good as well does brissys.
