My nephew was telling me he went to school with Miers and believes he is an excellent get for us.
Sounds like we have drafted well.
Again.
7 goals in the TAC Grand Final, 4 in a half as a 16 year old in the GFL prelim. Is a natural footballer, will never be quick. Would be great to see him succeed.

I will conceed Podsy but what luck was that.
Mooney was earlier, the others you could raffle.
If you meant recruitment specifically then fair enough, but you only said no other key forward in the 10 years since Nablett left. (Tomahawk was drafted before he finished up anyway).

Ultimately all recruitment is a gamble - its pretty well known that our recent key forward efforts haven't been great. Imo Buzza, House and Sav are a reasonably promising crop and we'll get at least one good KPF out of them. But those are questions for the future.

Combination of factors. Injury (Brown, Vardy), not talented enough (Walker), who knows (Kersten), and very good but wrong end of the age spectrum (Podsiadly). Just reinforces that there are no certainties.
Injury: Vardy
Not good enough: Walker, Brown, Kersten

Vardy had all the potential but was injured too often

If Pods was 24 in 2011 then we would’ve won 2013 plus the previous two seasons. Effectively guaranteed.

That's how important marking power forwards are, .....plus they provide opportunities for the smalls.
Pods was proof of the axiom.

From reports SK and JW tore it up together in the VFL, so it was very disappointing they could not make the transition. JW plainly was just bit not talented enough, and SK, I wonder if he spent too much time in the 2s and just couldn't pick up his game to play with the bigger, faster guys. MB had the guts of his career torn out by injury, and maybe his growth spurt. I swear I never saw him kick off even one step. We'll never know if NV would have helped us last year. If he had kept up a good attitude at the end of his time at the Cats who knows? Still shows the 'potential'. They all got games but no stars there.

If NAblett had some passion and no injuries... we win 08. No doubt.
Anything can be prefaced by IF, but agree with your assertion too.

Exactly what the Dogs fans are praying happens to Schache and Boyd

I sure hope not
If I was picking a group of young KPP I sure wouldn't choose those two first. Still, Boyd has credentials other young forwards dream of.

Lynch and Cameron please but they aren’t young forwards anymore. Still, I’d prefer these two to the likes of Moore
Eric Hipwood- love the look of this kid. Apparently very happy at Lions- they'll keep a beauty.
Lynch is fantastic- think he's going to Pieland.
Cameron seems to have plateaued a bit- started with amazing potential- still, I'd have him at Geelong in a heartbeat.
Patton and Boyd are a bit similar- again, either would be welcomed by me.
Wouldn't say no to Moore either.

Hipwood is the best single prospect, but as a group I'd be interested in Carltons. Curnow, Silvagni, Weitering are (imo) the most intriguing group of young key position types in the league.

Hipwood has a lot of upside.

Lynchy, what can I say. I do not want him playing in any opposition team. Cameron is a very similar type.

Patton & Boyd ref is a little lost on me when the comparison was including Boyd & Schache.

Very much like Moore, maybe a victim of circumstance.

The thread is about our best '18 team. None of those guys are going to playing for us this year.

Full Backs: Jake Kolodjashnijj - Lachlan Henderson - Jed Bews

Half Backs: Tom Stewart - Harry Taylor - Zac Thuoy

Centre/Wing: Nakia Cockatoo - Scott Selwood - Mitch Duncan

Half Forwards: Tim Kelly - Tom Hawkins - Sam Menegola

Full Forwards: Lincoln McCarthy - Stewart Crameri - Patrick Dangerfield

Rucks: Zac Smith - Joel Selwood - Gary Ablett

Interchange: Brandon Parfitt - Cameron Guthrie - Daniel Menzel - Mark Blicavs
From an outsiders point of view I can see Tim Kelly being a massive pleasant surprise after watching him a decent amount last year. Also, I remember thinking Blicavs looking good as a forward against us last year. I could see him and Menegola playing across half forward because with their ridiculously good endurance running even if they arent receiving the ball they should be able to create space for those behind them. Menegola was a key forward in his juniur days and kicked five goals in a Colts Grand Final the year he was first drafted. Crameri could very well be a good pick-up and he too could play a hard running half forward role. I though L.Fogarty would go higher in the draft as he is all class, so Ive included him as well. Thurlow should a lot better if he can get a decent run with injury and build confidence. Shapes as the most likely Mackie replacement from what I can tell.
I also think Cam Guthrie is capable of much more than what he displayed last year and that his pace could be important on a wing.

My best 22:
B: Stewart Taylor Bews
HB: Thuoy Henderson Kolo
C: T.Kelly Duncan C.Guthrie
HF: Cockatoo Blicavs Menegola
FF: Dangerfield Hawkins Partiff
R: Smith J.Selwood, Ablett
I/C S.Selwood, Fogarty, Crameri, Thurlow

HB: Zach Tuohy, Lachie Henderson, Jake Kolodjashnij

C: Mitch Duncan, Joel Selwood, Sam Menegola

HF: Cam Guthrie, Stewart Crameri, Brandan Parfitt

F: Nakia Cockatoo, Tom Hawkins, Dan Menzel

FOLL: Zac Smith, Patrick Dangerfield, Gary Ablett

Pretty close.

Not sure Crameri is a walk-up start. I’d have Hawkins at CHF and Dangerfield in the qoalsquare as plan A.

I’d be tempted to get Kelly in there and Gregson will be too if fit.

Need more pace and quicker movement from the backline in 18. Also a smaller fwd line will need to support hawkins. 2 youngsters to debut in round one in my team.
Stewart Henderson Bews
Tuohy Taylor Cockatoo
Duncan S.Selwood Kelly
McCarthy Hawkins Parfitt
Fogarty Dangerfield Menzel
Smith Selwood Ablett
Kolo Guthrie Menegola Blicavs
The rest
Stanley Crameri Murdoch Gregson Thurlow GHS Zuthrie Black Constable Miers Cunico Parsons Buzza Hayball Abbott Narkle Jones Gardner Simpson O'Connor House
A good indigenous lineup from HF to HB
A very decent looking reserves lineup
Simpson House Thurlow
Zuthrie Gardner Cunico
Murdoch GHS O'Connor
Gregson Black Crameri
Miers Buzza Jones
Stanley Constable Parsons
I Hayball Abbott Narkle

Vastly improved depth
Young hard tackling fwd line
Bodes well
I know ill get the cocky in the backline knockers. But with our improved movement with bews stewart and touhy, adding cocky would make an extremely dynamic defense.
Really looking forward to structural changes this year
