i don't think brennan's done anything to warrant a spot ahead of LRT in the 22, let alone the starting side, i would think jude bolton is worth a place ahead of crouch (in fact, i'd have 5-6 players ahead of crouch), and i'd want to see moore get in a good preseason before i'd pencil him in
and not sure why you'd have malch at CHB, if in fact that's how you've got it

J.Bolton .. Oh My god, way to feel really stupid :o.

On the other ones. The backline is going to be adjusted around a lot depending on who we are playing and what strategy we are using. CHB can be an attacking position and Malceski I think can step up to handle it. The Games I saw before Brennan got injured showed enough to me that he has a great deal of potential and can read the play better than LRT though its a line ball call thats it.

But I repeat

J.Bolton .. Oh My god, way to feel really stupid :o.

as for the aging list....

Often a battle worn, aging star just offers much more than the raw recruits! and often age does not mean past it

eg Carrrrrrrlton Paperbag Bluuuuuz!!! -1995 ... almost undefeated premiers

(Kernahan, Spalding, Williams, Frazer Brown, Madden, etc all were on their very last legs and many thought way too old???? and had lots of others Braddley :oetc)

Comparing 1995 to 2008 is ridiculous.

None of the players above would make it into any 2008 squad at that point in thier career, and to be honest, unlikley to make it in their prime, including diesel and sticks.

Players in this era who cannot create defensive pressure and hold the ball in attacking 50, dont get a game.

Stupid correlation.

Ablett, Bolton, Bird
Kennelly, LRT, Malceski
Mattner, Kirk, Barlow
Davis, O’Keefe, Vezspremi
Buchanan, Hall, O’Loughlan
Jolly, Goodes, Fosdike
White, Everett, Moore, Barry

I would go one step further and say he doesnt even deserve a spot on the list. That's just my opinion. Don't get me wrong, he has a go but to me he looks like one of those stop gap players. Plus his foot skills are deplorable. I would have rather taken a punt on a youngster in the national draft.

I will disagree. before his injury his abilty to read the play in the backline looked as if he had overcome his old demons and was ready for a return to AFL football. He is not going to be a superstar but a solid player for us for a few years.

B: Leo Barry, Lewis Roberts-Thompson, Ted Richards
HB: Martin Mattner, Craig Bolton, Tagh Kennely
C: Nick Malcheski, Adam Goodes, Luke Ablett
HF: Ryan O'keefe, Barry Hall, Jude Bolton
F: Nick Davis, Michael O'loughlin, Heath Grundy
R: Darren Jolly, Nick Fosdike, Brett Kirk
I: Amon Buchanan, Ed Barlow, Peter Everitt, Tim Schmidt

Great looking side. Not sure about Heath Grundy though.

More than likely a heap of reasons against but I would like to see Ryan O'Keefe used at full forward. More than likely a variation that could be used during a game. I would do this with the following line-up.

B: Paul Bevan, Lewis Roberts-Thompson, Ted Richards
HB: Leo Barry, Craig Bolton, Tagh Kennely
C: Martin Mattner, Adam Goodes, Luke Ablett
HF: Nick Malcheski, Barry Hall, Jude Bolton
F: Nick Davis, Ryan O'keefe, Michael O'loughlin
R: Darren Jolly, Nick Fosdike, Brett Kirk
I: Amon Buchanan, Ed Barlow, Peter Everitt, Tim Schmidt

Changes in bold. Malceski delivering to a leading O'Keefe in the foward line would be a difficult for most teams to match-up.

Why do alot of people put Jude at HF, he was hopeless there last year, was the reason why many people all of a sudden wanted his head, he cant kick goals, average foot skills, couldnt hit a lead lace out.
Put him on the ball or nothing at all, thats all he is good at..

o'keefe didn't like being played at chf this year, and it reflected on his stats and influence on the game.
playing ff, although he has the skills to, i think would only lessen the influence and impact he can have on the game. moderation is always a key, though.

B Kennelly Barry Richards
HB Mattner C.Bolton Roberts-Thomson
C Malceski Goodes D.O'Keefe
HF R.O'Keefe O'Loughlin McVeigh
F Davis Hall Playfair
FOLL Jolly Kirk Buchanan

INT Everitt Vesphreni
Ablett Barlow

I believe the acquisition of younger players such as Daniel O'Keefe, Patrick Vesphreni and Ed Barlow will boost the Swans ageing lineup and will provide a bit of enthusiasm and energy into the side. I think the time is right for Roosy to inject some young blood in the side similiar to what Mick Malthouse did with the Magpies. I think with this lineup our teams window of opportunity will be open for another 3-4 years unlike the predicted slide the rest of the media has suggested.

We just disagree...Diesel and Sticks in their prime would walk into any AFL 2008 squad:p Neither were fast but both footy smart and highly skilled !!!(except Sticks helicopter punts).

:confused:Oh???? would any of Dunkley, Cresswell, Kelly (Brownlow) make the Swans 2008 squad in their 1995 shape? They had some major tussles with these two in 1995 ...even later in 1996

Dud, you are of course correct that the game has changed and pace and defensive pressure does have more importance.:thumbsu:

But tactics , mental strength, team play, have also become more important which I think suits a more mature line up.

Swans are older than the statistically "ideal" age spread profile but I was merely giving one example of where the "average ideal" profile does not necessarily rule out any possible chance! The lions had many aging stars in 2003 also!

.....stupid again!?:p

Hi, what is your say for the best team in 2008 for Sydney, Here's mine:

B: L Barry, C Bolton, T Richards
HB: N Malceski, LRT, T Kennelly
C: M Mattner, B Kirk, J Bolton*
HF: R O'Keefe, M O'laughlin, J McViegh*
F: N Davis, B Hall, E Barlow
R: D Jolly, A Goodes, A Buchanan

INT: L Abblett*, B Matthews, P Everitt, N Fosdike
EMG: H Grundy, H Playfair, L Brennan

The ones with stars can be swapped around cos I couldn't decide on them.

I know a lot has been said since this team was listed on page 1. But I would swap playfair for LRT, reason being playfair had a good year at Geelong in the reserves. Missing out on playing CHB because of Egan (CHB of the all australian team).
Dont get me wrong but given the fact that LRT was claerly not right to play at all last year with his injury. His confidence would be shot.

I'm wait eagarly to see how mattner goes, BIG bonus for us.... even thou we lost shnider-man.

The only way is up!

P.S Jarrod McSh!t to retire early this season!! Fingers crossed.
