The first 2 were a joke and were rightfully scrapped. TBH, I actually was under the impression that CA wanted to serious up the league a bit more.

I just can't see it happening again with the current schedule and how many T20 leagues are going on, but I thought it was a great tournament, remember Kieron Pollard played a blinder for Trinidad I think and basically launched his career. Maybe the winners of each franchise league and do a playoff with the other leagues who knows.

So rather than do any real work on why the Victorian sides, in particular, have failed to build a strong culture or effective work ethic, Cricket Australia instead rigs the comp to shoehorn them into the finals?

(The amusing thing being the $tars will probably still manage to find a way to bomb out under this incredibly generous new system.)

Stuff like this (along with the rumoured enforced gutting of every squad and draft) probably represents Jolimont's ultimate pushback against the Scorchers (and Sixers/Strikers to a lesser extent) for treating the BBL as a serious competition, building solid squads and garnering success and strong crowds that way.

They clearly want to enforce the Stars/Renegades/Heat approach of treating each tournament as glorified exhibition games and chasing shiny new toys each year.

The thing that has really started to annoy me in recent BBL seasons is the non consistent start times for matches.

This season, the Stars have played 9 different starting times (listed below)... Every game almost has a different start time which makes it very hard to attract fans. Given for the foreseeable future the BBL will be on Channel 7 how about make all games start 7:10pm so the casual and all viewers know what time the game is on if they plan to attend or watch on tv.

The Stars do not seem to have much of a following and playing at the G highlights their poor crowds.

I understand the different times if the games are played in Perth, and maybe an hour later if the game is in Brisbane, but beyond that. Shouldn't change much.

We do have the highest membership tally in the BBL btw. Playing at the G makes the crowd look poor but that is because the stadium is oversized for BBL. There is no perfect sized ground for BBL cricket in Melbourne. Junction Oval is too small. We need a 20,000 seat stadium

Just have one big table. A corrupt fixture "works" for the AFL. Be easier to follow.

I honestly think T20 Cricket is a bit like baseball. You could easily have 3-match series in the finals. I would prefer a 3 game semi final system over the 1 match semi-final system, which saw top sides lose and not get rewarded. Loved the NBL final series last year for example.

If going for 4 team finals, 1v2, 3v4, LvW and then grand final. single games there. bang, still simple and you are able to get a weeks build-up for the grand final, with the 2v3 match being played mid-week.
 
I'm wondering, given the BBL is picking up okay crowds it seems this summer without the need to draw on the marquee test players, why couldn't we run both more at the same time over the peak summer period?

People who love tests complain that it's early January and the summer seems over, so why not go back to where it used to be finishing up in Adelaide over Australia Day?

The players are effectively in separate competitions anyway and the BBL can fulfil its purpose of generating cash. Could have Melbourne as the first test, then Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and wrap up in Adelaide in Australia Day. Would allow for a fuller Sheffield Shield season to build form for the tests and then a carnival of tests and T20 through late December and January.

For the "foreseeable future", 33 of 43 BBL games are on Seven. Meaning there will remain a give and take with Fox over scheduling, and games will continue to start at varying times. If you plan to watch or attend, part of that planning should probably include looking up the start time.

Tests in Adelaide and Perth aren't going to overlap with the BBL. CA would be cannibalising their own TV ratings.

It's not unimaginable that a red ball Brisbane Test could become a permanent mid-January fixture, further down the track. The Heat would still have a 20,000-seater to play at in Carrara while the Gabba is booked, which is another thing to consider.

Fair for Perth. Could have that as the first test mid-December. Adelaide times not such an issue - could work around it - a test is just 5 days out of the schedule.

Our domestic players need more than eight games of T20 cricket at a decent standard.

If we want to shorten the competition then less teams is a better solution. Not only would it condense the season but it would lift the standard. Currently most teams have players who aren't, and never will be, good enough. I have no idea how they would sell culling teams to the public however.

probably would have been if they didn't bring back Home & Away earlier than usual?

Why do our domestic players need more then 8 games?

Our Australian T20 side is made up of our Test and ODI stars anyhow lol

H&A games per league + maximum total finals games playable
BBL: 14 + 4 = 18
IPL: 14 + 3 = 17
PSL: 10 + 3 = 13
CPL: 10 + 3 = 13
BPL: 10 + 3 = 13
SA20: 10 + 2 = 12
SS: 10 + 2 = 12
LPL: 8 + 3 = 11
Hundred: 8 + 2 = 10

Conclusion, the BBL is currently the longest T20 comp we've got. playing 8 more games than the Hundred. It needs to be lowered.

Amount of games similar (45), but less games per team keeping the interest level in your team to a premium.
Shorter window and we get to keep international stars for majority if not all of the tournament.
Two new teams increase the quantity of international players due to reduced window.
28 days (no Christmas Eve, day or Boxing Day), 45 games for pre finals. Friday, Saturday and Sunday and New Years have two games per day.
Keep top 4 (semis and final) to ensure only a week needed.

Leave a week break following news years test for a break from cricket, and then roll into Sheffield shield and an ODI series and T20I series.

Are you talking about a state 1day and T20 series after the Big Bash?Play 4 day shield game,ODI and T20 over 6 days.
