I find it ironic that everyone is making predictions about the Bulldogs but for us to do the same about Geelong, the club we understand more than anything, well that's just simply overreacting.

If you could not see the attempted game plan change you are as stupid as your posts sound. You cannot expect to perfect your "new" game plan in week 1 of the AFL season against a potential Top 4 side. Get that through your head!

Perhaps you'd like to enlighten us all to the "new game plan" then?

Kick the ball long to a static and outnumbered forward line with no crumbers to pick up the spillage, then see the ball rebounded back to the other end of the ground in the blink of an eye, seemed pretty much like last years "plan" to me.

Interest fact that i found on the main board:

in 2006, the following teams lost in Round 1

Sydney, Freo, Melbourne, St.Kilda, Collingwood

and Hawthorn, Carlton and Essendon all won

As SJ has said - you don't get it. I expected to lose. I didn't expect 2006-style football all over again.

Before the game I checked to see if it really mattered winning round 1. I found that only 3 teams that won in round 1 went on to make the finals last year. They were West Coast, who dominated all year, the Dogs, who were against Richmond, and Adelaide, who also dominated all year.

Don't worry about a round one loss. Freo and Adelaide lost at home to weaker opponents by a bigger margin than us so we're not the only ones.

See above. It's not that we lost, it's the way we lost. Seriously, it's not that friggin' hard to understand.

What new game plan!? Bomber has been harping on for the last few seasons about moving the ball quickly into the forward line. Everything I saw on Sunday gameplan-wise, from the constant handpasses and play-ons to the flooded forward line screamed 2006. I would suggest that there is no new game plan. I'd love to proven wrong, but at the moment things are looking very, very shabby.

One hundred percent correct, it's pointless moving the ball forward quickly, which we did last year actually, if the structure down there is so abysmal.

We desperately need someone who can get the forward line functioning with some cohesion; we need numbers down there, crumbers who can take advantage once the ball comes to ground, and it may not be a bad idea to tell the forwards to lead into space occasionally, seen a lot of talk about our poor delivery but if the forwards are not presenting themselves the ball carrier doesn't have much option but to kick and hope.

We have players, Gaz and Chappie to name a couple, who will hit a target more often then not "if" there's a target to aim for.

Nothing looked much different from 06 as far as I could see.

Good post. Spot on really....except I do think the delivery into the forward line is just poor on its own far too often.

Until Geelong finds a way to retain the ball in its scoring zone a higher percentage of the time...we will look every bit the side we were in 2006.

Its incredible to think we often create as many scoring opportunities in our own forward 50 for the opposition...as we do for ourselves.
