A really good read, tough to see what he went through.

Harris isn't up to it. All our openers after Warner, suck. Get Khawaja back in.

I mean, Bryce Street tonned up against the Lions in the 2nd innings. There's one option.

Bison also went T20 with 7 sixes for a rapid 60*.

I remember him only vaguely, as I didn't watch a lot of shield cricket, just followed the stats. It seemed he was playing quality cricket, then just completely disappeared. Hard journey, but great that he has at least semi recovered and could have a life.

Slightly off topic, but how great was that Sheffield Shield team back then. Amazing talent, Baker included.

Quite some read that.

I remember him and just assumed he was a guy he wasn't good enough for FC cricket, but back in those days you never really got as much of the story as you do now.

Everyone is well versed in the journey of Maddinson's mental health issues, Puc's concussions and Burns also getting diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome. There are more than a handful of similar stories in the last five to ten years.

But twenty to thirty years ago this sort of stuff was just washed away as an "undiagnosed injury" or something similar, and then the general public just assumed the guy was soft. Unless you could see an injury, it didn't really exist.

This is one area the sporting world has improved significantly in.

Really want to see Mitch challenging him self when the shield resumes and putting himself at 3 and try to recreate this form. Don't think he's test career is just over yet
He'd need the right circumstance for that to happen. I don't see him as opening bat, Marnus and Smudge are entrenched when fit. The batter he'd need to displace is Head, or he'd need to prove to be a useful enough bowler for the selectors to decide to give Green more local time to work on his game.

That said I'd be happy if he continues his short form batting. At least until the media give him some plaudits, and actually care that he gets dropped for no apparent reason in the WC.

Good to see Jhye getting the call up.
I was afraid they'd go the usual selection route of:

1. Is player from NSW? If yes, bring immediately into side when younger than 25, and allow to develop game at international level. If no, proceed to 2.
2. Pick the player with the longer Shield career.
3. Cross fingers. Reserve right to dump player after 2 games, never to hear from them again. Especially if Punter doesn't like them.
4. Go to 1.

Honestly, I hope he gets a good go at it, rather than being used as relief for Starc and Cummins. I don't have a lot of trust in the national side treating players fairly.

Word is he's highly thought of. If not for his bung shoulder he would've been in and around the team these past 2 years.

yeah not saying he’s gonna displace smudge and Marnus but for me 3-6 in the national side should always be top order batsmen at state level. He bats at 4 at times at shield level but IMO 3 is more harder as could easily come in with a moving ball with barely anything on the scoreboard.

Happy to see Jhye in, but you gotta feel for Neser, been 12th man for most of the past 8 bajillion years it feels like, and just as there's an injury, Jhyes gone past him.
The bowling equivalent of all those batsman that dominated shield cricket in the 90s and early 2000s.
