Starcs an express pace bowler, of course he's not going to be perfect every test match, but when he's on, like the first three tests, he's very good. When the rest of the normal bowling attack are three very consistent bowlers, it's worth having Starcs wicket taking ability.

Scorchers finals hopes depend on Marsh coming back and Inglis finding form again before the season is up. Surely they don’t take both down to Hobart?

The other thing being is you really need a left arm pace bowler in the side if you are going to play a right arm finger spinner. So really it's the combo of Starc plus how he sets Lyon up as the pitch deteriorates.

Now if we had a finger spinner with more variations who could maintain a similar line and more spin than Lyon then Starc becomes less important however over the course of the first 3 tests he was the most valuable player in the side and series.

Now if Swepson can get his shit together and replace Lyon it's not an issue.

But outside of Starc who is our next best option as a Left arm pace bowler while we play a right arm finger spinner. We don't have one who is even remotely at Starc's level and therein lies the problem.

So the Scorchers current line up at the top of the table with 9 wins from 12 games and sit 6 points clear at the top of the table is -

Patterson
Bancroft
Munro
Evans
Turner
Hardie
Agar
Tye
Kelly
Hatzaglou
Morris/Behrendorff

From the above, Evans and Munro are the imports while Hatz plays shield for Victoria and Pattinson for NSW. The rest are WA.

From a potential Scorchers team, the players in the test squad and WA shield players in other bbl teams, team could be strengthened by the following line up

Philippe - Sixers
Stoinis - Stars
S Marsh - Renegades
M Marsh - test squad
D Short - Hurricanes
Cartwright - Stars
Green - test squad
David - Hurricanes
Inglis - test squad
Couter-Nile - Stars
Richardson - test squad

With Paris at Hurricanes and Whiteman with Thunder not being in my best 11 not playing in Orange, the strength of WA cricket for the white ball looks pretty good.

My combined team would be

Philippe - keeper
Stoines - bat/ball
M Marsh - bat/ball
Pattinson
Turner
Green - bat/ball
Agar - bat/ball
Couter-Nile
Richardson
Tye
Hatzaglou

Some tough selection calls with S Marsh, Short, Inglis, Cartwright and Berrendorff all missing out. I am thinking current BBL form and I am not big on credits in the bank and I also rate durability

I’ve been impressed with Pattinson and his consistency (slightly shading Munro) while the Mad Hatza offers the leg spin that is proving vital.

I fully endorse Cricket Australia keeping an expanded squad of ready to play red ball players. Tough for Scorchers missing out on M Marsh, Inglis and Richardson when they are not in the test team but loving the way Borland Richardson Neser and Khawaja have been ready and all performed excellently when called into the team.

Bailey will have some tough calls for Hobart. No way I’m rushing Hazlewood back at the expense of Boland. Starc looks like he needs a rest so I would probably bring in Richardson. Starc only got 1 wicket across the 3 innings in Sydney. Jye did pretty well in the last pink ball test. Does Head come back and if so for Harris or Khawaja? Personally I am battling to see a long term for Harris.

Hazelwood is out for the series so bowling-wise the only decision to be made is whether Starc needs a breather. Richardson straight in, if so.

Batting-wise, it depends on Head's recovery from Covid. There's been no reports of his health status, so who knows? There's every chance he won't have had enough recovery time from a bout of Covid, but if he has, the only option is to drop Harris and open with Uzzy.

Was Head on field as a replacement fielder yesterday? Or was I getting mixed up with someone else?

If Marsh and Inglis can be released I'd like to see the Scorchers go with a top order of:
Patterson
Marsh
Munro
Inglis

I know Marsh has dominated at three but he's been coming in so early he might as well open. Inglis at 4 gives him time to get set. Munro at three as he's a slow starter but more likely to middle one early than Inglis (on Inglis' current form).

I am loving the bitching and moaning from Zampa. His “the Stars don’t deserve to be bottom” just makes me laugh at and dislike the titleless Stars even more.

Ling may their misery last. Perhaps Couter-Nile, Cartwright and Stoinis would be better off back west next season!!!
