Sixers are full of players that are real easy to dislike. Christian, Dwarshaus (spelling, who cares he’s a flog with a terrible moustache) Silk, Abbott, O’keefe. Theyre the epitome of NSW flogginess

Also their insistence its magenta rather than pink reeks of insecurity. Just own it.

They need to find a way to ensure players are available for the whole tournament or at least the majority of it

Appreciate that with other tournaments around the world competing for players with better money it’s difficult but at least the board has some say in which Australian players might be available

That's why the Scorchers protecting Evans over Munro, the former had made a commitment to play the entire BBL.

There is a certain loss of sparkle about the BBL when a quarter of the squads disappear mid season. I honestly wouldn't hate it if the ICC went down the FIFA path and had players represent only one T20 club.

The ICC would have to get the ok from BCCI before that can happen...

Of the players that represent multiple T20 teams, 0% are picking their BBL team in this scenario.

You can't do that without sacrificing elsewhere though. South Africa are hosting two tests in their whole summer so all their players can play all their comp.

Australia should look to do the same. They sold out the SCG for today's game and we're regularly getting 20-30k for mid week scorchers games. If the stars were playing they could get big crowds through for all of Jan.

Optus will likely get 50k through to the final next week and could sell out the grand final.

As mentioned no one would pick BBL in that case.

It would be hard to get Australians to put Test and ODIs on the backburner that way. Plus India/RSA will want us to tour them during that peak as well.

If I had a time machine and could go back to 2014 (peak BBL) when it was 8 games each, 8 teams, 32 game reg season and save it this is what Im doing

1) Expanding the comp to 10 teams and playing 10 games each with one double up. This is an additional 18 games for the TV networks. It is also less strain on individual players and easier to schedule a tighter fixture (more double headers on weekends).
2) Expanding import slots from 2 to 4, and at least one must be from an Associate nation. This is to prevent other countries from scheduling their T20 comps against ours.
3) One game is on every day at the same timeslot. The channel 10 thing of always having cricket on every day is a good thing for the comp.

Average 11 games a week (doubles on Friday-Sat-Sun and occasionally other days with a late Perth game or a triple header on a Saturday) and the whole comp can be completed within 5.5-6 weeks.

I honestly don't think the BBL can get back to that 2014 peak. We have 5 tests against Pakistan and West Indies over December/Jan so none of the Australian stars will play, and the IPL will continue to flex their muscles and use the RSA league against us.

Hopefully for the sake of the integrity of the comp he only plays one (or none) and he prepared for India as planned. Khawaja coming back and winning the average Thunder a title despite finishing 4th still leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.
It was worthwhile since they beat the Stars at the MCG and they're still without a title.

If this article is correct, no finals for Smith:)

"In BBL11 the Sixers attempted to sign Smith for the finals series and were blocked — but now he could play a vital role in the franchise’s finals hopes this season."

Sounds like last year Smith wasn't eligible for finals BBL11, this year BBL he can play?

Last year they needed approval from all the teams to sign him as a literal last minute replacement. This year he actually has a contract.

Wasn't something cancelled last minute last year which is why Smith became available and wasn't signed to begin with? I can understand why the Sixers were annoyed, but also, of course the other states wouldn't approve him playing. CA just needed to make the decision themselves instead of passing the buck. Example 145,085 of CA's incompetence.

Not as annoyed as everyone playing the Sixers would have been who couldn't supplement their list.
