Ok fellas just thought I'd whack up a thread to let you know I am doing the Adelaide draft picks of missionimpossibles phantom draft. Most people were asked via pm to do it (myself) and others w ere first in best dressed.

I definitely going to try and take a south aussie lad with pick 16 and possibly also with 17. It would be great to get Varcoe and Pfieffer with those two.

If not there are a few VIC midfielders that I have my eye on.

Input and thoughts would be welcome :)

Cheers

Just get us the best available.

We need a key forward and a key defender to go along with the midfielders :D

If there were "potentially" quality midfielders and kpp's left at 16 and 17 which would you choose? For me midfielders.

For mine, we should go:

National Draft/Pre-season:

2 midfileders,
2 kpp's,
1 midfield/crumber or specialist crumber

Rookie:

2 midfielders
1 kpp's
1 midfield/crumber or specialist crumber

Mate, I'd be surprised if we were looking for a key defender at this stage. We're in pretty good shape there.

After the Bock situation in the final against St. Kilda, I'm not so sure about that anymore.

For me this would be a very good draft:
- 16: Travis Varcoe
- 17: Grant Birchall (Apparently the AFC really rate him as a top 12 pick)
- 32: Jace Bode
- 48: John Cheetham
- 64: KP Defender - Whoever's left. If not, Sam Elliot.

If Bower or Lucy are still avaliable at 17 I would probably take one of them.
If Obst is still avaliable at 32 I would take him.

On Birchall it says "suited accross the half back line" and "weakness-outside type" - No thanks.

I would have thought we'd be better off with a key forward - Kenny McGregor can always go to back to cover injuries if theres a key forward to replace him.....

Im going to eye the hard players who put their body on the line. Dont quite like the sound of Birchall especially with question marks over decision making and kicking. I'll go for a midfielder with pick 16 and a tall with 17 if possible. The rest is more luck than anything, tho should still grab a good player with 32 perhaps.

I'm worried now. I hope to hell this kid isn't still available with pick 16. Just what we need another HBF type, and even worse, a soft one.

Sounds like the role some on here had Jericho being used for - outside half back flanker.

With all going our way, I'd like to see

16 - Pfeiffer
17 - Varcoe
32 - Obst
48 - Cheetham
64 - Bode

or Rischbieth @ 32 if Obst is gone and/or he is still there

Its no coincidence their all SA boys. IMO there is no point in selecting the best non SA lads only to trade them for a lesser pick in a weaker draft 2 years later.

Key Defender????
Bock- 22 y.o
Rutten-22 y.o
McGregor- 24 y.o
Henschel- 23 y.o
Hart- 31/32? y.o
Bassett- 29/30? y.o

I probably missed a few, I really can not think of what Adelaide need? Maybe a few more Midfielders because thats the one place you guys are ageing. Theres are a few good kids on the way though Knights, Thompson, Mattner, ect....

Good call Springy. Quality KPP’s or genuine mid fielders please. No ‘in between’ type pleayers.

Sounds about right. That list of 5 look pretty good. Is Obst really worth a second rounder ? I get the impression he is a bit one dimensional at full back ?

I thought you did pretty well with the first 2 picks.

A quick skillfull midfielder and a KPP :thumbsu:

Yeah, excellent picks so far.

Varcoe is a quick, skillful onballer who can also go on the wing as well as play as a crumbing forward. ??? over decision-making and his serious injury, but rated a top 6 prsopect at the start of the year.

Lucy is a dashing, powerful CHB/FB. Loves to kick the ball long from defence - can blast away a bit and is known to be quite unaccountable. However he would be too good to pass up.

Hoping for Bode, Grima or Obst at 32. :)

Stoked with Varcoe. I rate him top 5 in talent, if he didn't have his injury he'd have gone I reckon. Lets hope it happens like this in REAL LIFE!! After all we want to see him playing at 22 years old for us, tearing sides apart with pace and skill. Ohh god Ive had my dinner but im drooling...

Lucy is a good player, he has a solid build and uses it well, runs out of defence, seen him play and I'd be very happy to get him for real too!

Now, pick 32, I'm tossing up between a good hard midfielder bigger body (Bode) or another good KPP such as Obst. See whats left around. I'm looking for the Chris Knights type of player as well.

Good call re Bode at 32.

Your picks look pretty good. KPP player at 48 would give us 2 x KPP and 2 x Mids and would round our picks out nicely. Perhaps Cheetham ?

Pick 64 is a lottery, best available I reckon.

good picks there mate

i think if scott pendelbury is still there at 16-17 we will pick him from what i have seen the kid oozes class and is extremely fit and that would seem to fit in with the craig motto of pikcing those with a good fitness base.

I don't know if this bloke (missionimpossible) is going to run a pre-season draft as well, I doubt it so I'll take someone with pick 64 instead of passing like crows surely will do. He has us down as 61.

I used to rate Cheetham a lot, but seeing him play lately I dont know what to make of him. He has a great body and is a good size and is athletic but just doesn't do enough on the field for me. Can go very cold, and when under pressure just fires off handballs to runners (mind u very good reflex handball). I'll have a think.

I'll aim to use 64 on a roughie from the SANFL is poss.

Happy with Bode at 32, hard nut just what we need.

Birchall, Lucy or Bode will not be called by the Crows at picks 16, 17 or 32. And if Varcoe, Hurn or Pfeiffer aren't available at 16 or 17, there are no other SA players who will be taken that early by Adelaide.

Riggio at 48 was an interesting one. I would have thought you'd have gone for Cheetham, although Riggio's FOOTYDRAFT write up sounds positive.

Details:
Club: Peel Thunder
DOB: 14 Mar 88 Hgt: 189cm Wgt:
Position: Backline/Midfield
Natural Foot: Right

Honours:
Under 15s WA 2003
Under 16s WA 2004
AIS Scholarship Holder
AFL Draft Camp 2005

Draft Camp:
Agility 8.18 (7th)
Beep Test 14.6 (equal 4th)

Background:
Riggio is a defensive running player who runs through the line and has great skills. He also has the ability to push up the ground and can kick a goal, looks to have enormous talent as a tough hard running back flanker or a midfielder. Likes the physical stuff and gives out as good as he gets, is said to have a bit of mongrel in him both on and off the field as well. Was not selected for the WA U18s this year and seemed to have learnt by his mistakes after that reality check and has played very good football in the 2nd half of the year. Could be a very hard one to judge in terms of where he will go and if he will at all. Draft Camp may be a very important time for Riggio.

Strengths:
- Versatile provides hard run out of back line and midfield good height
- Dishes out some hard hits
- Good pace and Good size
- AFL type footballer, 6 foot plus 80kg with athleticism
- Agility and Endurance

Weaknesses:
- Overlooked for 18s so he wasn't seen on the big stage

Anyone with a name that even remotely sounds like our great captain, and has some mongrel in him, go for him I say, GO FOR HIM.

Yep, he was my lil roughie I had my eye on for quite a while. We need those sort of players, agressive and skillful. More the merrier I reckon.

Final pick (got us for 61) I'll try to use on a tall. Not too sure about Cheetham see how goes. Will try and go local. Bloke who has been mentioned on here a few times would make a good KPP.
