A mate from W.A were having a dicussion about who will become the better ruckman when he says something i couldnt believe and wanted to verify it and that it wansnt true.

Did carlton choose or wanted naitanui over kruezer yet he was too young for us to draft and then opted to get kruezer.

Wayne Hughes said that just before the 2007 draft, had Naitanui been in that draft, he would have taken him ahead of Kreuzer. I actually saw them play against each other at the U18 carnival that year, and whilst Kreuzer had the edge on Nic Nat around the ground, he jumped all over Kreuzer in the ruck.

Yes, Hughes did say that had Naitanui been eligible for that draft, he would have selected him over Kreuzer with pick 1.

Would be very interesting to see if he has wavered from this stance since then. Talent at a junior level is one thing, being able to make the transition is another, and that is the major struggle for most draftees.

Whilst Naitanui has shown signs that he will be a freakish footballer, there are still some question marks, even though he should become a excellent footballer. In Kreuzer's case, he's adapted to AFL football about as well as we could have hoped for.

Nic Nac will be a better ruckman but I've got no doubtut Kruezer will be the better player. I think Kruezer is potentially the next Captain of Carlton. He's not a pure ruckman, he's more of a follower or midfielder.

Natanui has more potential than anyone in the league.
IMO if he can deliver fully he will be better than Kreuzer. However i think Kreuzer has a better chance of delivering fully on his potential.

From what I've seen so far ( Yes I know it's early in their football life) but I personally think Humphrey will be a more consistent player over the years. Nic Nat might be more spectacular at times but for overall consistency I'm glad we got Kruezer.

throw in paddy ryder and these 3 young men will/already have started to revolutionise the way teams want their ruckmen to play.

We've already seen just having great ruck skill isnt enough in modern a.f.l. they need to cover the ground, they need decent disposal, they need to be able to go back or forward depending on their teams needs.

kreuze, nic nat and ryder are all that and more.

like kouta revoloutinised the midfield role these players will/are doing the same for the ruck roll.

p.s while typing this i realise that dean cox started this ruck rev, but these 3 have taken it another level, cause imo the 3 young guys have some unbelievable freakish natural ability, much much more the cox.

If you're talking about evolutionary young ruckmen, how can you not mention Mitch Clark? His 2009 season was brilliant given he's scarcely played ruck before.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. They've still got a very long way to go before they can be mentioned with Cox.

Clever ploy by Hughes to take the pressure off Kreuzer, while getting his opposite numbers to second guess his potential selections should we have finished around the bottom again the following year.

That's my story anyway.

Similar to what PeeKay said; Naitanui will probably end up a better ruckman, and chances are Kreuzer will be a more complete player.

Having said that, if Naita reaches his full potential, he will be incredible.. However, it's a pretty big 'if'.. We are obviously hoping he can become more than just a good tap ruck.

I dare say supporters on both sides are happy with the player they have.

Originally disappointed with Hughes when these comments first surfaced, however I believe we have been able to pick up the real deal with Kruez in that he will be a legitimate ruckman forward for a long time. There is no doubting his ability or desire.

We also have been able to pick a speculative player of the same ilk as Naitani in Hampson.

It will be interesting to see how the 3 of them develop in the future.
