ROUND 20 Vs BlackMamba/SaintSkeeta (St.Kilda)
Boy, what a tough game. Probably the most tense match I've played all comp so far. Just an out and out tense match from start to finish. The Saints jumped out early with the far superior play and hogged the majority of the ball for the quarter, missing a couple of gettable shots at goal cost them when Richmond nabbed a long bomb goal very close to the quarter time siren. Then the 2nd quarter saw the play open up a bit, both sides kicking goals, but the Saints netting 4 to Richmond 2 to give them a 20 point buffer going to Half Time. Knowing that the game was slowly slipping out of their hands, Richmond had to step up and while it wasn't entirely convincing keeping the Saints scoreless for the 3rd and Richmond kicking 2.4 (with a shot from Deledio right on 50 just missing as the quarter ended) was enough to keep Richmond in touch and only down by 4 points going into the last. The last quarter was full of many highlights in what was a real back and forth quarter. One big highlight was an incredible 'airy' speccy from Nahas (followed up by a tackle+50 metres) to give the Tigers a crucial goal very late in proceedings. In the end it was Richmond with a 5.1 quarter that was able to just get up by 8 points to win a very tight and tense game.

Most improved player of the season award goes to........jorel6669 - No doubt in my mind. This guy went from smashing his controller and deleting me from his friend's list :)p) after a flogging from me, to pushing me to my absolute limit in a corker of a game.

The match started in rainy conditions and jorel's Suns were clearly the first team to adapt, piling on 7 scoring shots to zero in the first term. Unfortunately for jorel, he wasn't applying enough scoreboard pressure considering the amount of time the ball was locked into his forward line.....something that would come back to bite him on the ass in the dying minute of the game.

I managed to hold my own in the second term, but was still really struggling to come to grips with jorel's seemingly new ability to really control the game while in possession of the pill. His precision passing and patience to wait for the right options was second to none.

As with the second quarter, I managed to win the 3rd by a goal, but again it was a very tight struggle in such tough conditions and at three quarter time I was still 5 points behind and hadn't hit the lead for the entire match. The 4th quarter was very much similar to the others for the most part, until I finally felt I was starting to get an edge over jorel in general play as he seemed a little too focused on maintaining possession with slow(ish) ball movement from halfback, trying desperately to hold onto his lead as the minutes slowly ticked by.

With under 5 in-game minutes left to play, I was starting to win the contested situations more and was finding my way to about half forward quite regularly....only for jorel to send the ball straight back up the wing on each occasion. With just 2 in-game minutes remaining and needing a goal for the win, the big ruckman, McIntosh, manages to gather a loose ball on the forward flank. He runs in a few meters and weighs up his options, electing not to take the shot and instead kicking to Hale who takes a leading mark, 10 meters out on a 45 degree angle. Hale kicks truly. With only 33 in-game seconds left in the game, there's little the Gold Coast can do as the Kangaroos run out 1 point victors.

Really great game jorel, by far the best I've seen you play. Very methodical. Looking forward to many more games like that with you mate :thumbsu:

I knew I'd throw that lead away... You smashed me in the second half...
Had some weird things happen...like, your guy took a mark, and there was no whistle....so I thought it was touched, or play on or something....so I tackled him, and gave away the 50m penalty.... spewing!!!

Then when Nahas took that speccie in the goalsquare.... I was shattered....
Well played mate....such a tough opponent.

Round 19
St.Kilda - (BlackMamba/SaintSkeeta) vs Essendon (hirdylloydy1/hirdylloydy)

Monfries 3, Hurley 2, Zaharakis 1

Possessions
Dal Santo 14, Riewoldt 14, Montagna 10

Tight game in the end... I thought he was going to smash me early.... Third quarter I had everything go right.... This seems to happen for me a bit.... I reckon there's some rubberbanding the game does for this....be interesting to know how many times a team has come from behind at half time to win.

I just want to say how sorry I am. I was momentarily distracted and completely forgot it skipped for the other person as well :(:(:(

If I need to go under the tribunal or something I understand.

It is a real nightmare getting the pics of the phone so I'll have a go deciphering.

Illnino, please tell me if you think any of these are wrong because they probably will be.

That actually seems about right to me mk.

Pretty sure Hansen (possibly Campbell, but I don't think so) was the second goal kicker for the Roos and I think he or Petrie kicked 1 or 2 more than you have there, because I don't think I had 8 individual goal kickers if memory serves me.

As for my third highest possession getter, I'd say fairly confidently that it was Greenwood. Always seems to be my 3 midfielders getting the most touches.

And no hard feelings mate....all good, lesson learnt ;)

Those stats OK to record then jorel?

As for my Brownlow votes, I said I'd catch up on them today (or yesterday technically ), but I'm way too tired to stuff around with that now so I'll do them tomorrow (or today, technically :p).

Actually, Petre's 3 looks more like a 5.

im starting to think lag is a major problem with this game when you have it, after playing lurker last night there was a slight bit of lag throughout the game, nothing to bad i thought, but had one of those games where players run the opposite way, players standing under the ball not marking it, piddly handballs going nowhere, players running over the ball, couldnt take a mark, tackles not sticking, basically everything that could go wrong , was going wrong, ( even got tackled after a mark 20 m out from goal and ump calls playon, im sure it was an accident so no probs with lurker) . Then played blackmamba and hbk and both games all the problems dissapeared ( no lag in sight ). Just wonder if anyone else has noticed these problems seem to occur when even the tiniest bit of lag is there?

also mkcaptain, i need to setup a time with you for our rd 7 match that was supposed to be played on the 29/7, can you please let me know?

Absolutely devastated after last night's loss to illnino. That was without doubt the most effort I've ever applied in a game. Just missed some tough shots that I should have kicked.

So little space to work with. That is the story of the Suns. Some of you guys really need to try using them for an extended period. They just don't find space, no matter how hard you try. To actually win contested possession, which other teams can do quite regularly, is a feat in itself.

I always knew illnino would come hard at me. Not once during the game did I allow momentum to shift in his favour, and I'd think he'd agree. As much as I am devastated that I didn't win the game, it is probably the most proud I have been of my gameplay. Didn't exploit anything, just worked hard to spot targets and deny illnino space as much as Gold Coast are naturally denied it.

Such an effort it was (I've never beaten illnino), I was kind of honoured that he held the ball for quite some time when he marked about 15 metres out to kick the winner. Probably using the time to compose himself more than anything, but there was a tinge of running the clock down, whether than was hit main motivation or not. I knew the game was gone, even if he kicked it straight away and gave me more time to win it from the middle and get forward, so the fact that a little bit more time was eaten away tells me that as much as he wanted to ensure he slotted the game winner without error, he also needed to deny me even a miniscule opportunity to have a final chance.

Well done mate. Left the scores up for as long as possible before switching off my PS3. Just couldn't handle another game after that loss. It wasn't an ordinary loss in that I blew it, or you were better. There was probably one mistake on my behalf in the last where I missed spotting up Ablett at half forward and it went out of bounds, but otherwise I did absolutely everything I could to win. I was at every contest I needed to be. I'm frustrated at the game for not doing a couple of things it should have, but in the end there's not much else I could have done against a great player such as illnino. Just unfortunate in the end that I couldn't just hold out for that last minute.

had a similar story against hbk last night jorel, havent beaten him before, but pretty sure he was 6 points up with a couple of game minutes to go, had a player free and running into goal and pressed handball instead of kick!!!!!!!! then with about 30 secs on the clock davey took a mark in the forward pocket ( anyone who plays with the bombers knows how difficult daveys kicks are to read, savage hook! ) end of story missed by a bees, hbk takes the kickout and all over, lost by 4 points!

Somewhat. I think the marking is a big thing.

Since the patch makes the spoiling have to be a bit more precise, I think the timing becomes a huge thing when there's some lag involved.

This is what happened the other night against Illnino with his 5 goal win, I just couldn't stop him from marking at any point (and yes there was also the non-ability to tackle as well as his players literally being 1 metre faster as I tried to chase him down).

But I definitely think the marking plays a huge part if there's smatterings of lag. I think a big thing that had me take a couple of big wins over scootyb yesterday actually did come down to the lag not being there from the night before. I told him that I felt there was some lag and to an extent I think that may have actually been a reason as to why I lost the previous night. Since yesterday what was really beating him was my ability to spoil and repel his advances inside 50. Where as in the matches the day before I just couldn't spoil anything of his players inside 50 (Mayne took a bunch of marks).

However, there's not a whole lot that you can really do about it at the end of the day save for postponing the match and trying to wait until there is just less or no lag going on.

Yeah, I definitely thought it was over when Davey had that shot.

Was an incredibly high scoring game, 71-67? Huge score considering the usual scores I see.

Definitely though you have improved ten-fold as a player though.

I think it was a bit of a turnaround, things you were previously experiencing i experienced yesterday, you mentioned ground pick ups, spoiling, marks etc, those are the areas that this time i thought went against me. Except you didnt get flogged but 10 goals because of it .

Sorry jorel, about to send it in now.

To people with multiple games not submitted, get them in!

Sorry, been really busy over the past week...as some of you may have noticed i havent even been able to get on PSN.

Unfortunately it seems like I can only be available to play games during the day time now. My evening/night schedule during the week is never really set in stone and I never know what might come up.

So to all of those I still have to play a game with, are u guys ok with playing them from noon onwards? Til 5 or something should be fine.

DT, I reckon it's gonna be mighty hard for people to get on from 12-5pm weekdays to play you. Maybe on the weekends, but even then, that time frame is normally when everyone is out and about.

Rather than all of us changing our schedules, you may have to find a couple of spare evenings/nights a week mate.

Damn life stuff....always screwing with our video gaming time :p
