Simons, Richarlison, Kolo Muani mean there are options to be better than we are

Agree Spence has been trash at LB for a few months
Do you guys not realise how contradictory you are on our CDM performance? Last year it was the issue when we were conceding 3 bazillion goals.

We remove Bissouma who was the problem many said and now we're defensively solid and it is still somehow the issue.

Even today losing 1-0 where it could have been more and the CDM pivot is still the issue despite possibly ending the Matchday with the equal 2nd best defensive record, or at worst 3rd best. When last season we were 16th defensively for goals conceded.

You can't have it both ways.
CDM isn't responsible for creativity and defensive solidity at the same time.

The double pivot wouldn't be talked about if we were creating out on LW, had a playmaker in the 10 and a striker to to put them in the net.

We aren't that defensively solid. We just have Vicario bailing us out most weeks

Spence seems to have become overconfident in his own ability and also increasingly lazy lately. Need Udogie back asap, when fit he just adds so much imo

If we had played more than 4 through passes all season we wouldn't rely on winning 1 nil and our keeper being MOTM

Gone to the other end of the spectrum with Frank. Hopefully he also steals us a trophy, albeit with much less entertaining football than Ange delivered

All completely beside the point.
a CDM double pivot is there to make us more defensively solid, which they have. Our inability to score to win is on other areas of the playing XI.

He used worse players than Bergvall, Johnson, Kolo Muani, Kudus, Simons, Tel and Odobert at Brentford and was able to get them to play better than this. But thats because they sat back, had a double pivot and countered through Damsgaard to Mbuemo and Wissa.

The problem is that he doesnt know how to coach patient build up play, and if sides let us have the ball then we cant do anything except play for corners and throw ins.

If he had the same players we've got now at Brentford and back regularly they'd outperform this version of us. You can see it in our away good performances, and even our away plucky results.

I don't think the players are an issue, its the setup will never work at home where we have the ball regularly. We don't play through a 10 at all. And just have a U shape moving the ball side to side, similar to AVB days. Give the ball to the gun on the RW and hope he does something miraculous.

Could become really untenable fast if tomorrow night against one of the weakest CL sides isn't dispatched with 2+ open play goals. The poms are quick to jump ship. For me, im a realist, if we can hit 0.10 xg its a 100% improvement and I'll be happy!

Untenable fast. Come on now, that's hyperbolic in the extreme.
How can you call yourself a realist when like most on this board you were Ange in after last season? That was purely misplaced patriotism. I was one of a very small few who were correctly realistic on that front last June.

Some of our best football this century, under Pochettino was with a double pivot. And last two seasons with a singular CDM we leaked like a sieve. So I still maintain the double pivot isn't our issue so far. It's the attacking player positions, some of which you've touched on. We have 3 x no.10s on the books.

Two are injured and Simons hasn't adjusted to the team or league yet. Is it any wonder we're struggling in attack against decent opposition.

That double pivot worked because of Dembele. As soon as he missed and it became Wanyama and Dier it wasn't as effective. Neither Palhinha or Bentancur are anywhere near close to what Dembele could do in moving the ball

He started today but went off concussion protocols
Moreso mean why he can't play with Xavi

Palhinha Bergvall Xavi

Rather than Palhinha Sidewayscur Xavi/Sarr

Or the two holding mids and throw Xavi kn the left

Just a waste so far

Yep, Dembele went forward with his feet, he was basically our big bustling central wingman, was an ok passer but one of the best dribblers of his generation

Shame we never won anything with him and others around

It worked with Sissoko for a time. We made a UCL final after selling Dembele.
Nothing wrong with Palhinha. Class CDM.

We've gone from shipping 157 goals in two Postecoglou seasons. To the more pragmatic Frank.

Did anyone think trying to correct that was going to be without hiccups? There's probably a somewhat overcorrection occurring but the issue we have is still scoring and that is down to sub-par options at LW. Injuries at ST and CAM and relying on Kudus at RW.

Finally some balls and logic with the lineup

Hope it works so well that we see this sort of lineup regularly in the league at home

Legs in midfield with Sarr
Bit of everything at 6/10 level with Bentancur

Johnson hugging the right
Xavi in the 10 role
Odobert on the left with Udogie on his outside

Kolo Muani getting another start over Richarlison

In time the Sarr role can be Bergvall and Bentancur can be Gray. Or either of the kids next to a destroyer like Paulinha. Home games NEVER have P&B together again please!

Great game from Xavi. Need to persist with that left side combo with Udogie and Odobert. Shame Kolo couldn't get his first goal, was very good. And that Richy/Scarlett didnt score the 5th

Been rough lately I know but just chill lads. I still trust Frank. We're top 5 in the league despite being spineless at times, and pushing for a top 8 CL group finish. Also missing our key playmaker/s and that drive from Kulu. Xavi needs time, very young and has to be more physical.

Plenty of negatives and I agree we've gone what could be described as too far the other way, but give me that over expecting to conceed 5 at home to the likes of Burnley.

Also, I don't know how Stan can get away with producing such poor highlights packages.

Micky VDV, wow! Have to remind everyone he's actually a CB and not Erling Haland, but when he does that you can't help but wonder!

Love seeing JP score. He's truly the definition of passionate and giving it all for the team.

Amazing what happens when a more balanced team lineup is announced...
Many of the underperforming players stood up. Johnson has been invisible since early on in the season, Kolo finding fitness, Odobert showing signs of his potential, Xavi actually using the ball. Massive ins returning from injury as well.

Plus, it's Copenhagen, not Chelsea, Newcastle, or Monaco away.

You're right though, this is what we should be doing to weaker sides at home. I'm still questioning why Frank went off Sarr so early in the season after he impressed throughout preseason.
