Biggest Draft Disappointments

I am surprised St. Kilda doesn't seem to cop the same sh!t Hawthorn does for passing over Chris Judd.

Hawthorn don't deserve any crap at all.

Croad and Mcpharlin for Hodge with Croad coming back is not a bad return.

Freo on the other hand in the superdraft came out with McPharlin and Polak.

Could have been Judd and Dal Santo/Kelly/Maguire etc

in fact if you look at Freo trading and drafting blunders they could have won the next 10 flags.

Yeah but when they all sat down on draft day it was Hawthorn & St Kilda that DID NOT pick Chris Judd (who gives a **** who the did pick because they are a long long LONG way off being as good as Judd)...Now yes Freo gave them the opportunity, but guess what, they didnt take it, who is the biggest dick Freo for giving them the opp or Hawthorn then St Kilda for not drafting him...

Dont bite back its not worth this same argument over and over.
Although the Dal Santo/Kelly/Maguire call is poor form. There are several clubs that could have had them.
At the time Polly was a near sure thing and was far and away to best KPP in the draft. How wonderful is hindsight.

Josh Fraser is a massive disappointment for mine.

He's a reasonable handy player, but when he was drafted, the hype was massive. He was the biggest monty to go number one that year. Everyone had Fraser > daylight > the rest. He was supposed to be the prototype of the modern footballer. Now in his eighth season, I don't think the "big men take time to develop" theory holds water any longer. He's just never going to be the superstar he was supposed to become.

You want more than just an OK player from your number one draft pick.

Mcpharlin>>>>>>> Kelly or Maguire

and for the record one of the worst blunders was Carlton picking Sporn at pick 12 then Shaun Burgouyne was picked at 13 and i think Kerr was 21 or something! That is dreadful.

Freo

I'd have Ball or Hodge over McPharlin

I'd actually prefer Luke. He seems to keep out of the umpires note book and the medical room now.

Luke's my favourite too

2002 selection: 10, Jason Laycock, Tassie Mariners. Taking a long time to develop.

A bit harsh. Good big men always take a bit of time to develop, and Laycock is definately showing signs.

Agree, i'm a fan or Laycocks. Has a long way to go but i think he will be a good footballer.

For the slowest player ever to be tested over 20 metres at the draft camp, he's progressing equally as slow now.

Brandon Hill was rubbish, Doogs was OK. Sampi was a very good player, not anymore though, but he is still young.

Is a Jeff Farmer waiting to happen just cant dedicate himself as much as the Wiz did. Even has the off-field baggage to go with his talent.

Yep, he has had a few mediocre season but he showed in 2004 that he could be a very dangerous FP, he needs it to happen this year though as he's only on a one year contract.

Hahahahahahhahaha.

Hindsight is a great thing... Noone, besides Kerr, is comparable to Judd. He will be up there with Leigh Mathews and the other greats of the game. Hodge and Ball will become elite players in their time, both of which have the ability to win a brownlow. Everyone came out winners in that priority pick part of the draft.

Would you like to remind us who you picked with pick #4 in the DRAFT OF ALL DRAFTS, how many games he played, and where he's at now . Then consider all the talent that went after him, Bartel, Mitchell, Dal Santo, McGuire, Campbell Brown, Reilly, Hale, Xavier Clarke, Hansen, James Kelley, Gram, Seaby, Montagna, Waite, Schneider, Swan, David Johnson etc.

Or how about the many number of draft blunders your lot have created.

How about letting Bell (because he's too small) go for nothing - then moving heaven and earth to get him some years later, or passing on McLoed. Or trading Clement, Jeff White, Winston Abraham, Troy Simmonds, McPhee, Sinclair, Holland, Black - only to trade for him again, Croad - only to trade him a year later, and I haven't even started on players you've brought in.

Then consider you actually had the number one pick in the 2001 draft, which you gave back to us. In the end we got Luke Hodge, Rick Ladson, Campbell Brown, and Sam Mitchell. Two future club captains and two consistently good performers, then we got Croad back the next year. VERY VERY happy with that outcome, thanks.

The Luke that doesnt sit on a half back flank and get cheap kicks im talking about.

Which one is that?

The Lukes you're talking of are both hard-ball winners, up there with leaders in the comp with clearances and hard-ball gets. Our Luke also sets up play beautifully from the backline and marshalls the boys down there. Plays above his height range too, in fact he plays at CHB a fair bit.

I think your Luke plays at CHB doesn't he? Hrmmm I wonder which one anyone would take .

Bellend.
