I know I'm in a minority but I thought the first one sucked. Haven't seen the sequels.

To answer the OP:

Blues Brothers --> Blues Brothers 2000
.

Walked out of the cinema not even half way thru it. And that was back when I worked for Hoyts and got free tickets!!!

I remember getting free tickets for a gala preview of Young Einstein and walking out of that.

The Matrix sequels watch as if the brothers never planned to make Matrix 2 and 3, unlike George Lucas who had an overarching story worked out in advance. Going the Disney route, I'll name Lion King 2. The first is a classic of my childhood. The sequels are horrible.

Can we add sequels that were shit after a good series of movies? For example, the original Indiana Jones trilogy is rock solid…whereas Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is ******* terrible.

The original Star Wars are rock solid…the prequels are ******* terrible.

Terminator 1&2 are rock solid…3 and 4 are incredibly average.
actually disagree, the last one 4 was pretty good with Cristian Bale.

Agree with 3 being shit

Except Lucas changed the whole arc of ROTJ to appeal to a more kid friendly audience.

On The Matrix sequels, I remember an interview with Laurence Fishburne where he said The Matrix Reloaded was the only film he signed on for before reading the script.

It was never more apparent than when watching them.

Matrix.

Attitude on the set of the original to the sequels completely different.

On the original the brothers insisted that everything be correct and done properly at production. The emphasis on quality.

Their attitude to the sequels was if it was stuffed, duffed or muffed was they would fix it in 'post'. The emphasis on quantity.

I think that attitude just stuck to the whole cast and crew and it showed in the results.

Was tempted to say Starship Troopers 2, but it had less than 10% of the budget of the original.

I actually love Alien 3 personally, and I thought Terminator Salvation was a slight improvement on T3.

The Godfather Part 3 still got 10 Oscar noms, including Best Picture, so bit harsh to include that. It still has something like 7.6 on IMDB.

Chinatown-Two Jakes is one that comes to mind.

If we are talking a lot of the same cast & crew, Exorcist II might be a good example.

The Exorcist > The Exorcist II: The Heretic < Exorcist III: Legion (The Exorcist > Exorcist III: Legion) (have I got that written up right? I mean to say first is better than second, third is better than second but not better than first.)

The original Spanish-language zombie flick REC is much better than REC2.

In contrast to the Exorcist series, in which religious trappings are central to the plot, I felt oddly 'let down' by the demonic possession aspect of the outbreak only hinted at in the first but confirmed in REC2

REC2 is still an okay film in its own right though, I don't think the gap between it and the original is that big (and it is superior to the 2nd Quarantine film as well, where the parallel series went down different tangents).

I never saw either of the Quarantines - thought I understand the first one is a literal shot-for-shot remake of REC. I actually like sequels that go down different paths - Ginger Snaps and its first sequel were actually fairly different movies, and both were good. Even the third one wasn't that bad.

Didn't hurt that I wanted to shag the arse off Katherine Isobel either. Still looks mighty tasty today!
