Movie Biggest Drop-Off in Quality between a movie and its sequel

Yeah, Quarantine is one of those mostly shot-for-shot remakes that is still quite okay in its own right. I get as annoyed as the next person when a recent foreign film is remade for the US, but I try to keep an open mind. Quarantine is one of the better remakes in recent times, despite being highly indebted to REC. The sequels took different paths, which was interesting.

I actually consider REC/Quarantine as one film (both have very slight differences).

Superman 2 was the best of the lot. Superman 3 was terrible. Richard Pryor as the comic relief? Yech!

Was about to post the same thing. They should have never fired Richard Donner halfway through Superman 2. Superman 2 could have been so much better with Donner and when Richard Lester was given a full movie to direct, Superman 3 was what we got.

The Dark Knight Rises

Maybe it was the massive expectations and hype surrounding the movie, but I didn't like "rises" at all despite loving the first 2 movies. I just can't get over how crap it was...

I enjoyed it, but to me it felt like Bale was going through the motions throughout part of it (like he was there to collect his pay AND not put any effort in).

Chucky 4 was horrendous.

I thought Child's Play 4 (Bride of Chucky) was alright, the next one - Seed of Chucky was not very good in my opinion.

Child's Play 1 & 2 were awesome, the third was a decline but still passable.

Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

80% of the movie revolves around rescuing one guy from some small time gangster, the good guys teaming up with cuddly teddy bears, the Emperor waffling on to Luke Skywalker for several years before any action happens, and between that the plot moves slower than a Bantha with little to no significant character development.

A let down to an awesome trilogy saved by an epic space battle at the end

You forgot the massive incompetence of the entire Imperial fleet to blockade a single planet with one ONE cannon. Yeah, space is big but those star destroyers have hundreds of fighters that should have been roaming the gaps between firing arcs and picking off those transports flying up one at a time like a bunch of goons to be taken out with one punch.

Frustrated me to no end as an 8 year old.

Are you talking about the battle of Hoth?

Wow, way to pick apart a world class fantasy.
Searching for character development is interesting though considering that was all completed in the first two films.
But good luck all the same finding 5 or more people in the world who will agree.

T2 > all other terminator movies.

lol, go watch #1 again, this time as an adult...

One prob stands up what about the other ones?

1 is easily the best.
2 is the second best by a small margin.
Seeing a terminator develop a human relationship with a young, screeching teenage boy wasn't really in line with the original story and it's theme. That type of romanticism should have ended with the sex scene from part one.

The others can GTFO.

Just the space side. I understood the rebel tactic, punch a hole in the net and rush it.

Cool, I was only talking about Jedi as the drop off point in quality and mentioned Empire as the high point in quality from which it fell. I understand what you are saying, just want to let people know that when I mentioned Empire it was not because it was the drop off film, Empire is a great film

Die Hard 2 is the worst Die Hard, though I haven't seen the latest one. I'd prefer to watch Die Hard 4 than Die Hard 2.

I really liked the first Pirates of the Caribbean, but all the sequels have been pretty bad.

Debatable, the 1st one is just as good for mine. As great as the 2nd is in some ways it's almost like a remake of the 1st with a big budget and some cheesy sentimentality thrown in.

I have talked about these in the relevant threads about them in the past, but here we go again - i used to think Die Hard 2 was the worst movie - in the 90's as a trilogy i actually rated it as 3,1,2. In the early 2000's i changed it from 1,3,2. However i actually do not think Die Hard 2 is a bad film, Die Hard 4 and Die Hard 5 are horrendous films though.

As for the Terminator movies, T2 would have to be one of my most watched films ever (saw it at the cinema a few times, watched the home video 382947234832472304823 times, did get sick of it in the late 90's and didn't watch it again until just prior to T3's release). I myself think it is the ultimate action movie for children, and it is a worthy sequel...... but the original Terminator is the best in terms of telling a story.

Sensing deja vu as i know i said this over the last week (think it was the casting news of Terminator 5 that brought the discussion up again), but i didn't think Terminator 3 was that bad, It suffered a bit by trying to emulate the T2 formula, but it was still watchable for me.

Terminator Salvation absolutely stunk.
