Weve got Soligo and Peatling badly struggling in the midfield, Isaac Cumming poor after R1 and an ordinary end to last year and Pedlar and Keays struggling to have any form of impact in the forward.

Surely we can find a role for a guy ripping the SANFL to pieces
This is what frustrates me with Nicks,
We have brought these guys in on big contracts and they aren't performing to the level they need to be and Nicks wont drop them for guys performing in the 2's which they have for a long time now.
Along with his fav's in Keays and Soligo

Yes, but Nicks doesn’t rate him, it’s that bloody obvious as it was back in 2024 when he made that comment ;)

I don't get the obsession with him. He seems okay I guess but I've never been wowed by his output at either level and I don't reckon he has the traits to be a first choice midfielder at AFL level

Would be a pretty good option as the 23rd person selected, though.

I still think we'd be better off just selecting one ruck, using Thilthorpe or anyone else as backup, and adding someone like Dowling into the side.

Maybe. I would have picked Hinge of the players not selected to give us more drive from defense

Could ANB play a bit more through the midfield and Dowling come in and play the high HF extra mid role?

Sure, but what would that achieve?

Nicks is no different to any other coach in the league in that regard (well, outside that he does use his list a bit more than most*). In saying that, performances in the 2s mean somewhere between **** and all. The gap between the two is just too large to rely on as any sort of indicator outside of what traits they have and are parts of their game maturing.

*Arguably not a good thing, seeing it's probably kept us in limbo for a couple of players. Plus, usually the guy you rate at 35th isn't going to prove you wrong.

Agree . We are short of runners and seem to want to play stagnant football . we don’t even use our rotations properly. Our game plan is completely incongruent with the modern game .

Jones now in as Cumming's out

After last week's 37 touches, this is why Dowling should have been EMG

MUST play next week

Averaged 17 disposals a game in the 9 he played which included an outstanding game against Sydney at the end of 2024. Got one game last year and everyone seemed to blame him for a substandard performance. The dude has just played 10 games. Yet people ran a line through him..like what the **** do they want? we have had midfield issues for years, this isnt even new and we have a player literally who came in an looked good but because he didnt get 55 disposals a game he is a potato. Its a pathetic attitude and most fans enable Nicks with this bullshit attitude.

BOG again in SANFL - 30 disposals, 5 marks, 7 tackles, 8 clearances, 5 inside-50s and a goal

Would love a proper explanation from Nicks why Dowling hasn't been given a game this season. Rankine and likely AhChee out post-bye, its high time Dowling gets a proper crack at AFL level

Why would Ah Chee be out ??

You can watch someone play and look past their disposal count to form a view.

I'd be fine giving him another go to change my mind as he's still very inexperienced afl wise, but from what I've seen so far he is a good sanfl player

2 weaknesses for mine, not overly quick and not an overly good kick.

He's a smart footballer who can find the ball, and a pretty good size for a modern AFL footballer. Solid overhead mark and can kick a goal.

I still think he's deserved much more of a run than he's been given though.

Also has a big kick. Ideal to play wing so he can work his opponent over provided he has a relative good endurance base to cover for his lack of pace. Cumming continues at HB where he looked his best before getting injured, Curtin to the midfield and Dowling and Cook on the wing.

How's he compare to Taylor then, because he sounds like a taller version from that.

Not as neat with his disposal, not as clever IMO.

Zac has more footy IQ than the majority of our squad though IMO.

I'd say he's more of a Pedlar with greater ability to find the ball.

Sadly I think Billy is a tweener.

Not strong enough to play as an inside midfielder in the AFL and not quick enough to play on the wing or as a high half forward. Nevertheless I would be quite happy for Billy to be given a few games in the second half of the season.

I would love Billy to prove me wrong just like Cooky has proven me wrong (after 4 long years).
