has he EVER kicked 70 in a season? no.

Irrelevant

My point is that IMO he would kick 70 goals if left in the forward line all year. Another poster recently compared Birds stats as a (part-time) forward identifying he is averaging 2.9 goals a game. Now try doing the math on this amt of goals per game multiplied by 22 minor rounds and finals. Trust me old son it works out ;) :thumbsu:

He kicked over 50 a few yrs back and our team and Bird himself are undoubtedly much superior now.

ive said it before and i will say it again

this guy is our biggest forward line weapon come September time

impossible to match up on

even though stiffs 18 disagrees I reckon Bird left at FF would kick 70+ in a year :thumbsu:

even knuckles agrees

I have always liked the idea of Birdman up forward... seems to me when he spends all the day running, by the time he gets up to the forward line and goes for the inevitable specky, he's buggered! HOWEVER, having watched him yesterday, running here there and everywhere AND bagging 7 goals (shouldabeen 8!), I'm quite comfy where he is!

And I LOVE Roo up forward... he is still nowhere near fit enough to play midfield and on his day (which yesterday wasn't) he is nigh on impossible to stop on the lead.

Not as buggered as his opponent!

I'm failing to see your point here, nobody has ever tried to claim that the Birdman has kicked 70 goals. All they are trying to say is that he has to ability and potential to kick 70 in a season.

Wrong!!!!!!

Knuckles said that he thinks Burton is a better forward than a wingman because it limits his options in decision making. As a forward he generally has one option, kick for goal. Where as on the wing he has too many options and when Birdman is made to think, he generally stuffs up.

Knuckled NEVER said that Burton should play FF. HUGE difference.

Absolutely!!!!!!

Birdman as a full time FF would be a mistake. He is at his best when he is given freedom to roam all over the forward line and towards wings.
Just need to look at the one contest where he was at FF on the weekend & his opponent stopped him from leaping for the mark. The opponent will struggle to do that when the Birdman streaming down from up the ground.

please explain in your own little eloquent way why Bird kicking 70 in a year is 'fantasy land'. I am confused by this. He has kicked 50 odd before. He and the team are better now and he is already averaging the necessary amt of goals per game even though he has only be a part-time forward.

CroW mos - cut us some slack here old son surely you can concede it aint fantasy. Bird kicking 100-300 year IS fantasy land but not 70ish imho

any one else as mistified about the reports in the media in relation to who plays on the wings for the crows?

In the game on the weekend when they were doing the team line up on the tv they had mattner and burton on the wing. Have they been employing people from the crapertiser to do their research? Mattner has been playing in the back half all year so far and was named there in the team sheets. Burton for the last couple of weeks has been playing solely as the floating forward as mentioned above for the past couple of weeks, on the team sheets he too was named in the forward line.

Add that to 'On the Couch' tonight they stated that Burtons efforts to kick 7 goals off a wing was pretty special. I nearly fell off my couch with laughter that they really have no idea about the crows team yet continue to praise us and that it was Gerard who got it wrong

Then there was the idiocy that was Mike Sheehan's reason for not considering Barrie Robran as the greatest or even one of the greatest SA players as he didn't play at VFL level, he would only consider those that played at VFL / AFL level. "It just is" is a valid argumentative response for a four year old....

your confusion isn't something new. But it also seems you're overly impressionable from just one game. In a full strength team, burton is never going to be the main focus, which he would need to be to even think about 70 goals. Something he has not even been close to before, and as our attack is evenly spread that certainly isn't going to happen now. Lets not forget we've had some pretty good teams in recent seasons as well.

Our forward line is looking being congested when everyone comes back, we should be looking for ways to clear guys out, not stick them permanently in. especially when a guy like burton can play further up the ground, and use his endurance.
