The Kent Kingsley Krew
Just a question for people to ponder, who would be dissapointed if we paid my boy Kent Kinglsey as much as Brad Ottens, and gave away as much as we did to secure him at the end of last season?

As I said in that other thread, Kent will kick ten one day. Deceptively smart, and even more deceptively quick. Who said Geelong can't kick goals!

Kent is The Man. :)

He is an untouchable in my eyes, but don't think giving away all that money and 2 first round picks to keep him would be good.

Surely he wouldnt demand that much anyway. And if he did, then oh well, we'd have to give it to him. :p

If he could kick straighter he would get a lot of the credit that he deserves.

Interesting I heard after the game that his brother told him that he didn't seem to play with the same swagger or cockiness if you will and that he tried to get back to that on the weekend...it worked

My opinion about Kingsley is the same as ever. He would be a devastating third forward but due to injuries he is forced to be the key forward. He's kicked 57,33 and 49 in previous years (is that right?) and he's on target to hit 60 or possibly higher. Undoubtedly he gives value for money it's just incredibly frustrating when he misses simple shots because there's no technical flaw in his kicking (like Richo for instance). That and sometimes it looks like he's not throwing himself in as hard as others. Once Ottens and Playfair return he's going to be a very dangerous opponent towards the finals. He looked a million bucks on Sunday.

Bit of in-house fighting going on here. I think we need to realise both are important to the team, and to talk about pay is ridiculous. Some players don't even tell teammates how much they are on, so speculation is totally pointless.

Both are important, Kent has been better than Ottens this season and I am just interested why people havent raised questions about his performances. Is it because people do not want to be seen as coming second in this deal?

Put a fit King into the side and I reckon people may soon realise Ottens needs to lift.

OK I'll bite. If we had a fit King and he played to his best form, so good that Ottens doesnt get a chance in the middle, one could assess Ottens with a more critical eye....but
Its been some time since King has given us the drive that Ottens has in the ruck this year. When playing forward he has taken contested marks but has rarely been out marked. He is not the pure forward some had hoped we would get but he has been a A1 addition to our list.

Given your original question I sense you are happy with Ottens output this season given his pay?

Your senses have failed you.

Simply highlighting the point that Brad Ottens brings something to our team that we needed desperately, something that Kent Kingsley cannot bring, no matter how well he plays.

Same argument with Brent Moloney.

Correct, but that doesnt mean we have to pay him a huge salary because we have no one else capable of filling that role? Both Ottens and Kent have been serviceable this season but I imagine if Kent was getting paid 400k Skilled Stadium would get burned to the ground.

Kent brings something to the team no one else does, a consitent source of goals, when does his huge payday come? Ottens has been decent, but needs to perform better.

Kent being a successful business man, I don't think he plays footy for the money. We are talking abot a non-issue here IMO.

ottens has to prove himself over kingsley. At the moment Kingsley is far better value remembering that if someone could get into kingsley's ear about his intensity and finishing off we wouldn't be having this thread because the answer would be so obvious.

Hmm?? I would say KK has a real technical flaw (when he misses that is) If he kicks straight yes, it is flawless, but when he misses goals he has no rythym at all (in his runup and delivery etc). He has one of the worst hook foots I have seen and he does tend to 'stab' at the ball rather than kick through -don't get me wrong he has been great this year but his technique is definately not flawless! Brad Ottens has a great technique - weather he slots it or misses his technique is as close to perfection as you can get

You're arguing with yourself.

Agree with that comment, although he was a little better on the weekend, and I think he has improved gradually over this season.

I'm wondering whether he has a deformity or injury which doesn't allow him to swing his legs as much as others, as he tends to run in a similar way ie. small steps.

Apples and oranges, but Ottens is better value.

SEVEN GFC midfielders average more touches/ranking points than Beemer. He was expendable, get over it.
