What is happening with Luke Blackwell? I saw him play a few games where it seemed that his decision making was very good, and his ability seemed great. In particular when he played in the Lions match where last year murph went down , he looked great? Is he progressing in terms of size from what people can see? What are peoples thoughts? Are people expecting him to play senior football this year or is there more development required?

I have not seen the practice games this year but based on last year would have him in the starting 22. There has been much debate about Bentick v Blackwell and at this point I would see Blackwell as far more talented and worthy of game time. Bentick is good enough but hasn't Blackwell's potential imo.

They are two different players. Fall in two different categories. We need Bentick ahead of Blackwell in my opinion, because he is hard at the ball, an in-and-under player, provides a strong physical presence to the team. He was on the bottom of packs all night against Hawthorn, dishing teh ball out, winning us frees, providing hard strong tackles.

They are honestly two different players, and I dont see why people continue to compare them and weigh one up agains the other.

They actually aren't the dis-similar to be honest AWG. Both can get their own ball, however, Bentick is more of your classical in-and-under, whilst Luke won't be on the bottom of every pack.

As it stands now, AB is the better player, however, I see Blackwell with more potential to become a better AFL player.

Not sure why Blackwell hasn't been getting a game so far in the NAB Cup, but hopefully he can get some game time this year.

Blackwell will become very good, he'll get plenty of game time this season.

AB is an in and under player, whilst his foot speed isn't very good, he is a ball magnet, he's the same during intra-club practice matches, and when matches are simulated at training, he just gets a ton of the ball.

Both will get plenty of games this season, both getting the chance to cement their places in the Best 22

Can't speak for how they're going this year, but based on what I saw last year, if it came down to choice between those two for a spot on the list, I'd go Blackwell every time.

Blackwell has far more polish and class than Bentick INHO. Watching him in the losing VFL PF last year, he was a class above everyone else on that field from either team. There was just something I saw in him that impressed me.

I'm dissapointed he hasn't gotten a game in the NAB so far, would have him in the 22 based on last year's form. Hopefully he'll play come round one, I'm sure he'll get a lot of gametime this season.

Was in our best players last week in a practice match, so he's not too far away. I'll keep my eye out for him on Sunday should he be playing for the Ants against Box Hill.

Can I just say **** its good to be having this debate.

It means we have depth.
Yep, he was a walk up starter in the second half of last year, as was Bower. Now these guys actually have to push for selection, and that can only be a good thing for the team.:thumbsu:

Probably mainly got games due to injuries to other players. We now have virtually no injuries so it's harder to get a game.

The injuries will come, they always do.
It's just now we have a better chance to cover them.
