Our season now is gone, we need to play the kids that havent been getting a go and deserve another crack to see where we really are in terms of our future, otherwise in my eyes this season has really been a waste.

In: Dawes Stanley Macaffer Wood

Out: Toovey O'Bree Goldsack Bryan

There is no real fix for the midfield in the magoos

Yep, my In's exactly for next week I'd say :thumbsu:

Although, I would also drop Lockyer for one of McCarthy or Egan, whoever performs best in the reserves.

It's becoming a bit like Groundhog Day - the same players criticised for weeks for their kicking or their or their lack of ability or intensity, such as O'Bree, Swan, Fraser, Toovie, Lonie, Davis, Goldsack, Lockyer, Bryan, Maxwell (who was OK for much of the second half), Didak (poor kicking), all performed poorly.

Our great white hopes for the future, namely Thomas, Pendlebury, Cloke, Anthony, Wellingham and Brown, failed to contribute much towards saving the game. We heap praise upon them and build hopes around them in these threads and what they delivered tonight did nothing to repay our faith in them.

As for MM, his game style which relies on kicking to the detriment of handball has been exposed. His faith in his favourites and hacks, rather than rewarding form and enthusiasm, has also gone a long way towards losing us the game. Playing men carrying injuries, like Fraser and Davis, seems a futile exercise. Some players can carry injuries, but neither of these guys can.

Losing to Essendon the way we did was bad. Tonight was worse because the team physically look inadequate - too short and lacking in strength. Time for another mini-rebuild? And what about MM?

The problem is, we haven't undergone a full rebuild from the bottom up.

MM underwent a semi-rebuild in the hope that we can challenge for a flag with most of the current list which is now a pipedream.

We need to re-commence and finish off the rebuild just as Hawthorn have done, just as Carlton are doing and just like WCE and Essendon too.

Time for MM to make some hard decisions on the playing futures of certain players who have been at the club for a long time and are his favourites.

Players like:

Lonie
Holland
Johnson
Toovey
One of Presti or Wakes or possibly both.
O'Bree
Burns
Bryan- however we probably should keep him for ruck depth.

It may seem like almost 25% of the list but they are all dispensible. Promote Wellingham and Macaffer and take 5-6 draft picks.

Rebuild the midfield by providing Cook, Stanley, J-Mac, Barham and Iles with opportunity as well as leaving Pendles, Swan, Didak and Thomas in the midfield for the majority of games instead of rotating them with has-beens and players that aren't in our plans going forward.

i think egan is really weak at the ball. hesitates to go in and get it.

and i think wood and Fraser are the same type player. Slowish talls good in taps. i think Bryan breaks that up a bit. id say keep him in.

our season is not gone

are you all just born quitters or what??

ok, sorry, its not COMPLETELY gone, we can and may still well make the finals, but we aint gonna do much if we do make it in September given superior opposition as shown tonight.

If we were looking to the future, however (which i think is what we should be doing) and not in the present or the NOW, we would have to start playing those not given a go now for the next few weeks...

Mathematically, the season's not gone yet. Playing some more kids would probably not assist us in winning more games. It may make them more interesting though.

If we lose next week then I'll agree our season is gone. Even if we make the finals we'll just be making up the numbers.

Give it one more week guys...

Blooding the kids...is this some sort of doping scandal? Coz we don't have much in the way of kids who haven't already played AND who can actually play.

Come on kevind, surely with O'Bree injured (or even if he's not) Stanley's worth a run?

I agree if O'B misses with injury and Stanley does not get a run I think that he may be in trouble retaining his spot on the list at season's end. He just has to come in doesn't he?

What a shocker!!!!!! We do need to blood the kids and if you think putting one in will fix the problem you will be mistaken. We need to play a few of them. Yes they will lack experience but not endeavour and certainly not skills.
Stanners in the mid and maybe McCarthy or Isles. Leave Burns for experience there.
Put in Dawes, even Cook.
I have a horrible feeling MM will do his usual crap and play Holland like he did Lonie. Lonie got nearly all of his possessions cheaply again and most were uncontested. That was just what we needed hard bodied fearless stuff from an experienced player..FFS
MM has lost it. He may not have "the cattle" on the field at the moment but we have some great kids coming thru who just may be a heap better than some of the flogs he keeps playing. Are we ever going to know????
I honestly hope this is MM's last season and Collingwood pay him out. It seems the team has lost confidence in themselves and the coach. He really doesn't seem to be able to boost them up. His threats and rants certainly are not working.

We don't seem to have the fire power that the Dawks and Cats have and rely on a whole disciplined team effort. If the team as a whole ain't firing then we struggle against the top teams. Hell we've lost to the Roos and Carlton twice this year and they ain't one of three dominant teams of the comp this year. I really can't see us doing much this year if we make the finals, but I'm not ready write off this year just yet. We've got the Saints, Power, Swans and Freo to go and I reckon they're all winnable games, but given recent form we could easily lose all four.

Next weeks game against the Saints is a biggy they're a top 8 rival so if we lose this one and we're out of the eight then I'm happy for MM to start mixing it up and playing the youngsters and probables. A chance to take a look at the list and see where its at. Would like to see guys like Dawes, Stanley and Cook get some games if we go down this track.

I wonder if MM's blockbuster fatigue comment got into the heads of the guys because they have looked very flat lately.

EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED TO DO

MM consistently brings in players like toovey that have already played around 5 games and have shown nothing and dont even have form in the vfl. Where as the players who have not been tried yet and have form in the vfl arent getting selected. MM really needs to revise his selection criteria.

for next week

in: dawes,mccarthy,r.shaw(if fit)stanley
out: toovey,lonie,obree,maxwell

That would make my day, 1 more would be fraser back out wood back in even though wood wasn't killing it he was doing a lot better then Fraser who I think should have the rest of the year off in the gym and prepare for a 2009 assualt.

for next week

in: dawes,mccarthy,r.shaw(if fit)stanley
out: toovey,lonie,obree,maxwell

Maxwell and Toovey IMO did "alright" last night, not as bad as past performances suggested, and bringing back rhyce shaw even if he was fit, idk.

I would like to see cook, isles, barham, maccaffer, egan, cox and wood as well as mccarthy, dawes and stanners play, but not all are gonna play by years end obviously....

i would like to see next week

in: dawes, mccarthy, stanley, cook/isles, wood, cox
out: lockyer, lonie, obree, fraser, swan, davis

start to play JA down back, thomas in the midfield more, heath not one-on-one etc.

i would be givin egan one last chance, but i fear hes already gone which is fair enough.

lockyer, swan and davis look tired or lacking some sort of skill, fitness or confidence.....

and ive been an obree fan for years but the game has passed him imo.
