Yep agree, this stuff has been happening at Carlton for years and years.I read this and straight away knew you were talking about Motlop.
It almost seems like his aim is to get ball, head down, get tackled, and create a ball up - job done.
Good players get the ball and dish it off to the team’s advantage by keeping the ball moving or kick to a mark. Too often Motlop seems content to brace for the tackle, maybe he’s worried about turning the ball over but it’s a momentum killer.
no mate- he is just a player who has average leg speed and very low footy IQYep agree, this stuff has been happening at Carlton for years and years.
Individuals who can play, yet we drive them into repetitive behaviour (for a system - e.g. Jessie, dont turn the ball over) that it stifles their very ability to play.
I remember SPS and we all complained, every week, he kicked short and sideways continually when at half back. He and Motlop are/were getting picked each and every week because the coaches approved of the approach. Motlop is not bracing because he wants to, he is being told/coached to.
Over coached to within an inch of their lives.
Then a new coach comes for the back half of the season, they play loose and improve only for that coach to then over coach them the next year.
If you listen to the AFL, the fixture is as hard to manage as splitting the atom.

Didn’t we say no to playing round 0 ever again?I bet we're at the SCG for round zero.

First month will be Richmond , St Kilda, Swans, Pies ( after a 5 day break) then over to gather round for Port on a Friday night. It’s rating based, & the clubs have to submit proposals.
London to a brick we get Swannies & Saints in the first month.
Should be 5 and 0 to start the season then.First month will be Richmond , St Kilda, Swans, Pies ( after a 5 day break) then over to gather round for Port on a Friday night.
Thats my doomsday draw
It looks perfect mate, don't worry about that AI slop.View attachment 2467139
Yeah, I know it would have looked better using AI. But this is way more fun...
Should be 5 and 0 to start the season then.
I’d settle for beating Richmond and not having one of the most embarrassing and monumental collapses we’ve experience in this sport - hopefully I haven’t set the bar too high

Was there.
Was one of my worst footy experiences.
And I've seen some whoppers.

Are we expecting the AFL not to be totally incompetent? I still fully expect them to schedule us once against the Swans…. at the SCG.CodeSports reporting Carlton are likely to play Swans twice in 2026.
Since the start of 2013 we have played them 16 times in the H+A season.
- 10 at SCG
- 1 at ANZ
- 1 at MCG
- 3 at Marvel
- 1 at Metricon
We're supposedly playing them twice next year so it'd be 1 in Syd 1 in Melb. Are we expecting the AFL not to be totally incompetent? I still fully expect them to schedule us once against the Swans…. at the SCG.

We will probably play our home game against them at ANZAre we expecting the AFL not to be totally incompetent? I still fully expect them to schedule us once against the Swans…. at the SCG.
Was on course for the 1st Q & a bit.Yeh - and can't believe some are saying "they are a young side and basically a good chance to experiment".
We honestly should be looking at walloping them by 80 points and set our season alight from the get-go !!
Still think it was our worst performance since straight sets in 94.
That said, the North loss in Round 15 wasn't that far off it.
Port Adelaide R22 2021. 19 goals unanswered.I think my worst live experience was a loss to the Saints in the mid 2000s. We lost by over 90 points, but the Saints were up by 40 something at 1/4 time.
Nick Riewoldt with 9 goals outscored Carlton by 5 goals on his own.
Fev kicked all of our 4 goals and if you took him out, the rest of the team scored like 3 behinds.
I've never felt so hopeless and broken watching Carlton play - before or since*.
* Maybe the Marc Arceri match when I was a kid, but I was only listening that on radio, close to tears. I also had a family function on during the 0-60 start to last year's elimination final. If I was watching, I might have absolutely misplaced my faeces...

An average Tigers kicking the first 15 goals in 2006 or thereabouts is the worst one for me. My 7yr old son at his second game told me he was switching teams and I told him only Carlton supporters are coming home in the carStill think it was our worst performance since straight sets in 94.
