The middle nutsack on The Agenda Setters just summarised it well. Blues got dealt a bad hand - TDK leaving as FA, JSOS leaving as FA and Charlie says he wants out…. to wind up with a slew of experienced - but still young enough - dynamic types (Florent, Ainsworth, Hayward) and 6 first rounders in the next 3 years is a solid outcome I reckon.
If you look at what it cost to buy all three and what we sold them for we have done pretty well.

Best one in a weak draft potentially swallowed.

Next year they'll be a top four team and will be used on Cody.

2027 draft heavily compromised.

Weak trade for a 2x Coleman medalistA
How many top 4 teams will there be next year?

Apparently Sydney, Geelong, Collingwood, Hawthorn, Adelaide, Brisbane, Gold Coast and St Kilda are dead certainties.

We will very likely trade up ahead of a Dean bid. Almost certain of it.
I get that ... none of them really inspire me.
I would have liked to have held Charlie and told a team next year to get us 2 first rounders in the 2026 draft.
But hey, i'm just some dude on the internet.

I'm happy to see a dissenting player leave.
But this off-season has seen us unequivocally weaker. The players we lose are well in excess of the players we gain. And we have some high draft picks this year, in a crap draft. And then we get Walker next year, and 2027 is a right-off. How are we not weaker?

Initially, yes, it looks like a step back. But the path we were on was not working. So maybe this gives us the assets and flexibility to take good steps forward. I’m bullish.

In the grand scheme of things… who cares whether we’re better in 2026 in isolation? We have to get on a pathway that is consistently good, sustainably competitive. I think that’s what the new regime is trying to address, and this forced reset trade/FA period arguably accelerates it.

Charlie leaving might be hard to swallow, but might be what we need in the long run. Weaker tonight for Round 1 2026? Yes. Weaker for the long term? No, I think stronger.

think we will try to move up the draft to take three this year, or we try to trade something into next year

We can try to move up by using one of our 1sts and a 2027 F1 maybe.

whats with all the losers saying we caved ? We killed it!

Yep.

Three first round picks and a very good player in Hayward (who a very good club in Sydney gave a four year contract to last year) for a 29 year old with ****ed knees is not caving. Curnow is two years removed with winning his last Coleman medal. One of the first rounders is Pick 11.

In comparison, GWS traded Jeremy Cameron (won the Coleman the year before) at 27 for three first round picks. Picks 13, 15 and 20.

I feel sorry for him. Keeps racking up B&Fs. Was sold a line and they stuffed it up. Now he is 30, wants to experience success, and they begrudge him because he's their only A grader. He will probably relinquish the captaincy and try again next year. Straight to the bottom Bombers.
100% I don’t think he could do much more for them, given everything for 12 years & now had the chance to deliver the club a significant amount of picks prior to Tassie entering & they still won’t let him go

Perspective: Melbourne traded a 28 yo Clayton Oliver to GWS for a future 3rd round pick. This is what happens when you hold onto a superstar player with attitude issues and a lack of desire to be at the club a bit too long…

They wanted to keep him for "depth". If we go after him again next year and they're still only using him as injury cover, then they should consider themselves lucky if we offer a pick before 60.

Even better. I am shit at evaluating players.
