Fundamentally, we need cover for Weitering, and at the moment, out list of candidates begins and ends with Lewis Young. Scares me a bit.
IMO None of the other available options would be used ahead of Young anyway.
We would also likely make do with the "3rd tall" options we have before using them.
So whilst we don't have much kpd depth there's no point bringing in someone who isn't at the required level.

Will throw it out there - could Boak play some football in the VFL ?

I very much doubt he has any interest after 19 years playing in the AFL.

I just hope Travis Boak is here for multiple years and this isn’t one of those weird times where a highly respected person goes to a club post career and he’s gone 12 months later with no explanation.

Someone on Reddit claiming Daisy Pearce (currently West Coast AFLW head coach) has been offered an assistant coaching role in an AFL men’s team in Victoria. She’s transformed their women’s team from basement dwellers into likely finalists within two seasons, and also already has a year’s experience as a development coach for Geelong’s men’s team… AND it turns out she is a childhood Bluebagger.

Any chance this is an actual thing and it’s us??
No idea if this is real or not, but I'd be delighted to see her come to the club in some capacity.

The best thing about this off season is that Geelong failed to get Curnow.
Too arrogant to negotiate beyond their mediocre offer, they took their ball and went home.
They then moved on to Marshall - and failed again!
I dunno, is there a drought affecting the farms down Geelong way?

Then we have St Kilda, who were largely talked about as the new "destination" club.
That was before they suddenly realised they'd thrown so much cash and picks into the fan that they couldn't get the deal done that the media had been talking about all season.
Irreparable damage done to the club's reputation there. Future player targets will be extremely wary.

As for us, we've added a player with ticker in Haywood, Ainsworth and Florent who will all be best 23, Chesser who will be an upgrade on our delivery into forward 50, and a smokey in Reidy whose value remains to be seen
Off the field we've added Davies who presents as an extremely professional and knowledgeable person, the highly respected Travis Boak, and brought the highly regarded Josh Fraser back to the club to modernise our forward line.
Interestingly though, to my knowledge we still haven't announced a director/head of coaching?
The stars seem aligned for Ken Hinkley there which would then be the perfect set up for Butters.

The do we or don't we add Butters debate can wait for another day.
He would add class to the side but do we risk going down the unbalanced list path again?
From all accounts it seems that Walker may in time be better than the man himself, maybe Smith as well.
We could end up at square one payments wise?

All in all though I'm extremely happy with what we've done.
Even more happy with the fact that Geelong failed twice, 3 times counting the Grand Final, and absolutely mystified as to why the media has rated Geelong as one of the top rating performers of this trade period?
I just can't quite Cotton On to that??????
Not sure what articles you are reading but most have Geelong down with Hawthorn as the worst performers in the trade period, I think both clubs sets of supporters would agree with that assessment.

Had 3 separate articles appear underneath the google search banner this morning alone on it.
St Kilda listed first, one had Geelong as high as 3rd

If we signed Butters as a free agent it would be via massively front-loading the deal, and given the cap space available and the age of most of our top earners, that should cover any* overlapping issues with star draftees.

No I don’t have an issue with Tarryn Thomas playing football, I don’t have an issue with Elijah playing football for another club just not Carlton .
If my opinion upset you that’s not my aim it’s just an opinion .
What’s your opinion on Thomas and Elijah ?

You have zero sympathey for Lij and you say he won't be at Carlton BUT you are ok offering TThomas a 1yr contract.

That's fine as it's your opinion but I respectfully disagree.

TT has more baggage than the baggage carousels at Tullamarine.

There is NO WAY TThomas will ever be at Carlton and as for Lij, I hope he stays and given every chance to prove himself.
I rate him and that is my opinion.

Just noting the Elijah buzz.

My opinion is that if what he did has adversely affected himself, I'm all for the club giving him a lifeline.

If he has adversely affected others outside the club, it depends on what it was, and what his response has been.

If he has adversely affected teammates, so much so that trust has been lost by some, we have to get that out of the club. Zero point in turning over a new leaf, working on attitudes and mental toughness, but allowing a thorn to remain in the side.

As for Tarryn Thomas, no way, no how. He would be injurious to our reputation, to our membership drives, to Carlton Respects, and who knows what else. He wasn't that great a player that we would need to take the risk either.

There's plenty of players we would chase before McInerney, but as a RFA who likely wouldn't be matched on there's not many better next year.

Bailey and Butters would be lovely but will have every club in the comp desperate to get their signature regardless of the cost.

If we missed on the top liners McInerney would be a welcome addition barring a matched bid requiring a trade.
I'm sure Port would match any bid for Butters but surely some of those interstate clubs who are competing would have pretty tight salary caps.

Agreed I think he would be a good option and if we keep Gov I’d play Gov up forward.
That is the only place I want to see Gov playing if he stays. He's too much of a liability down back. Yes he intercepts and sets up well, but not only is he a poor defender, but he burns other teammates back there.
