I'm coming around to the idea of Gov as a dynamic forward option for another year. He's essentially a less talented version of the bloke we just traded out and prone to equally moronic brain fades at times.

I just can't stomach the thought of his turnovers in our defensive half any more.

I think we need him because he’s tall, he’s versatile (can go forward and back) and I think he’s better option than either Phillips and Grainger-Barass.

We’ll have to live with his moronic brain fades for at least one more year. 😏

He'll be a restricted free agent. Port will match any offer.
Yeah exactly - that's what I was intimating in my post, but correct me if I'm wrong a matched free agency trade doesn't usually carry the same weight as a contracted player trade? Someone pull up the history, but I don't think we've seen matched free agency trades go for excessive amounts, equal to what we saw this trade period for long term contracted players like Curnow / Merrett. Think the market for matched trades is usually - something better than free agency compensation, but not kings ransom level of trades.

Jeremy Cameron matched bid $900K per year..

In a complex deal, the Cats sent picks No.13, 15 and 20 and a future fourth-round selection to the Giants in exchange for Cameron, the Giants' future second-round selection and a future second-round selection tied to Essendon

Exactly, so one first round pick and a couple of 2nd>1st upgrades. Not anywhere near as serious as 3 or 4 firsts thrown around for Merrett, Petracca or Curnow.

If 2025 Petracca is worth 3-4 1st rounders, Butters is worth at least that if not more.

The market has gone a bit stupid, and GC not needing 1st round picks to get 1st round academy players (and the consistent numbers at which they get them each year) throws the economy out completely.

Rank the following in order of 'worse possible scenario' to 'I can live with it':

TDK All Australian
Jack Silvagni plays every game
Buku Khamis has a breakout year
Saints win a final
Charlie wins Coleman

Charlie winning the Coleman would be the worst, as it's likely the Swans win many games off the back of that and their F1 that we hold is going the be toward the end of round 1

Our midfield does not play well - with Jagga & lord now we have the pieces, they are just deployed incorrectly & the strategy/game plan is missing.

Crippa, Hew, Walsh, Cerra doesn’t enable an attacking game style.

It’s an unpopular option but I don’t think we can have George & Crippa in the same team, we need to evolve.

George is a better midfielder right now than Lord & Smith but he’s about as dangerous as a kitten, he provides very little offensively & defensively if the ball clears.

Give the kids a go, George’s job should be to protect & teach the kids in the 2s, we have depth now for more rotations & we need to come into 26 with a new style and plan

The dude just won our B&F and is in career peak form but you want him out of the team and playing two’s…

Dont worry. Hewett was out of many peoples 22 last pre-season too. Just one of those boring reliable types, that its tempting to bump for a youngster.

I still remember people picking Stocker over Newman in preseason 22s. Including in the week's just prior to his delisting. 🤣

For those in the know, tell us about Ash Close, who has just been announced as our new development coach

Wouldn't give a hoot about any of those one way or another.

However...

Sydney wins flag
Another year with 10+ on the injury list
No rising star noms
Bottom 4 finish

Any of these would truly suck

Why would it be 4 Firsts? He'll be in Free Agency, so the price will be whoever offers slightly more than what Port Adelaide would get for him in Free Agency. Suspect 1 pick higher than Port Adelaide's first next year and one additional First round pick would get it over the line. Unless I'm missing something, I don't think those forced trades can be that crazy can they?
unless they match his contract offer

No way should he play in the D50.
F50 or VFL.

If McGovern stays, and if Harry Dean takes his back position, would we look at him for positional change to forward line? Give him a crack first their to maybe help with 'the other guy' leaving?
