Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

I think the club needs to release a certain amount to the public about what he has done.

Right now it just doesn't make sense. He was so bad yet his contract wasn't terminated with cause and he was allowed back into the club late last year and early this year. And early this year he's already back at the club.

How bad could it be? He's either out or he's not. Get on with it.
There could also be an element of cancelling his contract leading to penalties or cap/list impact, so need to come to a mutual agreement because we had options:
1) a trade where a new club takes on his contract
2) perhaps we retain him, and then move him to the equivalent of an injury roster to pick up an extra SSP
3) could we do the "move to the rookie list" strategy we've tried a few times with Betts etc

If no club wanted to pick him up for loose change in a trade, then we should try and renegotiate his contract, and agree that he moves onto a mental health long term injury roster (perhaps with authority from the AFL for him to play VFL only) and if he spends the full year without issue we can welcome him back in 2027

I'd imagine the club would want to announce all delistings / contract non-renewals at the same time. So it wouldn't surprise me if decisions had been made on some but they were waiting to announce until decisions have been made on everyone.

The club delisted three players two months ago. There is literally no better time than the present to make their decision on Elijah Hollands. I hope the club keeps him, but wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t.

These are serious matters…we can look for fun in other topics.
Respect ☝️
Making light of serious issue is how many people deal with things.

It's ok to joke about situations or circumstances.

Making fun OF someone usually isn't (unless you have that sort of relationship with that person).

If we can't laugh at life, we'll cry.

Shame about Elijah.
If no club was willing to throw out pick 100 ala Will Brodie to bring him in, it means no one else is keen on taking a punt on him with a senior list spot either - understandable given he would be onto club number 3 already.

Maybe he will be offered a train on spot for a Rookie SSP selection somewhere. Hope he turns it around in his personal life.
If no one else picks him up I hope he knuckles down and proves himself in the VFL and gets another shot.

Here is my take Opium.

Austin and Agresta painted themselves into a corner with our cap; restricting our ability to push on for a flag. New leadership had to make tough decisions and got us the best possible outcome under the circumstances.

Yes the culture and leadership under Cook, Lloyd and the coaching staff but certainly not the incumbant. I am actually encouraged going forward.

And yet if they'd lowballed any of Charlie, McKay, Cripps or Weitering on their last contracts and ended up losing them to another club as a result, it would have been Eddie Betts all over again and 90% of fans would have been up in arms about it. Sure - some who are fans of "bold" list strategies would have applauded the move, but when you're chasing a flag you don't generally want to give up key players just coming into their prime.

Could make arguments about players like Williams and McGovern on more coin than they warranted, but not offering them such contracts could have resulted in them not coming...and then 90% of fans complaining about the club being inactive and not trying to address key needs that could herald a return to finals footy. And as we're seeing now...there are some other pretty ordinary players getting as much, if not more, than what either Williams or Gov were paid this year.

I don't think our cap was the problem as such. More so that we drafted two gun key forwards, a gun gorilla key back and a gun midfield bull, who all came good and warranted sizeable contracts...and then in the space of a couple of years the game shifted dramatically to favour mobile defenders, quick midfields and small forwards.

My apologies in advance but are there any early 'rumours' or vibes or chatter from the ITK posters about other club delistings that we ask to 'train on' with us, such as Derksen from GWS ?

EH is a fascinating case study - take the emotion out of it for a second (100% it’s shit for him & shit for us) & look at the precedent this sets.

This sure as hell will stop players speaking up & asking for help - there would be plenty of players with “extra curricular habits” / mental health challenges / addiction issues etc.

Sacking EH could very likely cause them to go further underground - not saying we are doing anything wrong or theres better answers (actions need consequences) it’s just really interesting.

Sure AF there’s players running around with the same levels of issues as EH - it’s just hidden/buried & seeing as it’s likely to cost him his career, they sure AF won’t be drawing attention to it.

Such a shit situation to see the talent & opportunity wasted

Doubt this sets any precedent tbh - this path has been travelled before, and will continue to be

Holding people to account for their actions is not a negative, for anyone

I highly doubt its played out like Lij claims. He makes it sound like he had an alcohol problem causing him to twice during the year ask for help and take time out (self initiated). Now the club surprisingly wants to sack him.

There's definately more to the story. If thats all that happened the club would be supporting him and he'd still be a Carlton player.

While I understand his need to put his best foot forward to protect his football future, I do think its poor of him to put out a partial story, that makes the club look bad, knowing they won't reveal the rest of it. Right thing to do would be to reveal all or nothing.

100% - he’s been on a massive PR offensive, he should be spending the time looking in the mirror & telling that bloke he just ****ed up his career.

Just saying that u would be real quiet if u have any “issues” seeing how this is playing out.

Not saying it’s not deserved, but what he’s doing is probably hurting more people than helping

No shit..

Why are the club allowing him to train with the boys. If he’s such a bad influence that they want to delist and pay him out.
Just get the bad influence aspect out of your mind, the players are grown ups and can coexist with people who party too hard. The concern is around availability on the list and his ability to perform at his peak.

You don't improve standards by having inactive dudes on the list.
