Board games have declined in popularity in recent years, mainly due to the popularity of computer games and the internet. What were your favourite and most frustrating games from years gone by? These are some of mine:

THE GOOD
Chess - This is probably the best game ever invented, and my personal favourite. A game of pure skill.
Trivial Pursuit - The last game was probably sold in 1994, and is now a symbol of 1980s nostalgia, but was good fun and provided a great mental work out.
Scrabble - This was always fun - apart from the time I could only make words like IT and IS, and then got stuck with the Q,Z & X when the game finished!

THE BAD
The Game of Life - OK, this wasn't such a bad game, but I was jinxed with it! My siblings, cousins or friends would be making a mint, while I was sent back to the start for the sixth time!
Backgammon - I never understood the appeal or rules of this game; it was just one of those things I never got. I don't think I was alone; during wet lunchtimes at school all the other games were gone, but backgammon remained in the box, untouched since 1979.

THE UNUSUAL
Young Talent Time Game - My sisters had a version of this in the late 1980s, and would often play it when our cousins or their friends came to visit. I played along a couple of times, but I don't really remember how the game worked in detail. I wonder if any copies of the YTT game still exist; it would be rare now, and possibly worth something to a collector.
Dungeons & Dragons - I never actually played this; it was a forbidden game, banned at school and nobody I knew had a copy. Did anyone play this in the 1980s or early 1990s, and was it as bad as people said?

Pictionary :thumbsu: (and this is coming from someone who cannot draw and is quite embarrassed about her creations)
Scattegories :thumbsu:
Trivial Pursuit :thumbsu: (thought it has to be a fairly recent edition for people to get the pop culture questions)
Monopoly :thumbsu: (an old classical favourite that everyone loves)
Test Match :thumbsu: (until the bowlers arm broke )
Cranium :thumbsu: (something for everyone)

best board game of all is Cranium IMO, combines all the elements of charades, pictionary, trivia, general knowledge etc etc etc. Is a heap of fun with a good group of people.

Yeah Cranium is loads of fun. Love the acting, humming and sculpting challenges.

Even though it's not really a board game we have been playing Buzz. It has many features of a board game and is basically a lot like trivial pursuit but on the TV.

connect 4 ruled, not really a board game but along those lines.
also

was one of my favourites and also

Yeah, I'm a big board game fan. I love Scrabble, Scattergories, Monopoly and Cluedo but recently I'm right into Scene It. :thumbsu:

Cranium rocks, Cluedo is awesome, Monopoly is a classic, Balderdash is a funny game as well when you have a fair size group and everyone is on the terps. Im with the OP that Backgamon is a confusing shemozzle.
A weird game I had when I was a kid was the hey hey its saturday game.

Use to love Trouble. Played it with my Nan a lot. Monopoly was great but i was the only one in my family who liked it. Glad it's now online. Connect 4 was cool, so was battleship and yatzee(if you consider it a board game, more a dice game i guess)

I love chess. Killing it online atm playing mostly gambits.

Where abouts do you play? I can't find a good online site, though I play a fair bit IRL

I played Shogi recently which is Japanese Chess, I enjoyed it

Did anyone ever play Ad-Mad? And it had the one with the young Don Bradman batting, haha, funniest thing ever! "Finish him off Harold!"
They all go up for an lbw appeal against him, but its given not out. I was pretty young at the time but my brother and me use to put it on slow-mo and replay it like 50 times to judge whether we thought it was lbw :P
Funny stuff
