Think the ambassadorial money tp sheedy and pay outs to dodo really show the unfortunate grip that group has had over essendon for the last period.

Really destabilising influences doing what they want. Hird appointment based on legendary playing status was the same.

So my favourite essendon people of all time are Solomon, sheedy and hird.

However, I don't want that era and close ties anywhere near the football club in 2025. That era was amazing but also then contunied tp have influence post 2010s and has held us back 15 years.

So sorry solly, still my favourite ever bomber player but I don't want you anywhere near the board.

*unless I hear him denounce and publicly criticise hird, sheedy and dodo who have had such a major influence on the last 15 years.

I also wouldn't want Lloyd either. Seems harsh as that 2000 close knit group gave me my best footy memories but just not a solution for a modern 2025 football organisation.

Love them all to link up at Port melbourne football club but it's a club not a modern organisation like afl sides need to be.

On Don The Stat tonight we were joined by President Dave Barham ahead of the board elections this month. Well worth a listen as he answers questions from Bomber members.

Don the Stat delivers again.

Really encourage people to have a listen to this interview and vote.

I love the approach EFC has taken under Barham - Truck to Scott, Sheedy & Dodoro (eventually) out, more players development funding, moving on older players, setting better standards and exciting players with poor attitude…
It’s these actions that really count.

But dead set, Barham should keep his mouth shut. Maybe share his thoughts in a weekly newsletter that can be proof read. For a guy who brags about his media background every 5min (or is it every 2min?) he is a liability when he speaks.

A few of his dooseys :
1. Here to answer questions - but won’t actually answer anything that isn’t a softball question.
2. Spent half the interview talking about himself
3. Contradicted himself repeatedly
  • between supporter engagement (for supporters) and revenue streams
  • between running a process (or not) when he hired Thorburn
4. Turns a question about coach from he has passion, to coach being so angry he doesn’t speak for days aftera loss. He bangs on and on and on about how coach won’t talk for DAYS.
  • That is a very poor look
  • If it’s true, the Scott shouldn’t be coaching…
  • I think it was just Barham saying what he thinks people want to hear… old school angry man stuff… which is just loose
Thank F the actions are what counts.

Barham could not ad lib a fart. He is not really a charismatic leader but he has made some reasonable appointments under his tenure and they seem to be getting things done. I expect the knives to be out for Scott at the end of the year if we don't show improvement and I half expect James Hird to be the one named to replace him. I'm not even joking.

I can't help think we need to get Hird back, be absolutely dogshit for a couple of years and have him sacked for being a bad coach. It's the only way to step out of his shadow and be a normal ****ing football club instead of a cult
Yeah … or get him back and like… BE AWESOME

No doubt we'd **** it up, Hird would go on to become a multiple premiership coach, the coterie groups would tip in crazy money then expect some sort of say in how the club is ran and it'd be even harder to rid the club of its boys club element.

People seem to forget that Hird led this club through the darkest chapter in its history.

What gets me is that the stuff Paul Weston is saying "we used to be feared/respected" etc etc is what everyone is saying. Barham said that, Brasher said that, Little said that. He seems to think he's running on an idea that no one else has thought of before. The thing is, of all those people, its been under Barham that things seem to be finally changing a bit ... I still rate the appointment of Scott to at the very least transform the football department into something resembling professional. It's been crazy to hear all these stories of "Essendon weren't even doing X until Scott implemented it". Under Barham we have ****ing finally seen the back of Dodo and Sheedy. The club seems to finally be taking a tough stance on players, e.g. Stringer.

I'm not saying Barham's leadership is the great saviour and will definitely land us a flag, but there are signs of change and I just would rather hope we let that play out rather than another change at the top because "we aren't feared and respected, we got to get back to being a footy club again!" and Barham gets ousted and the new leadership wants a new coach and everything gets reset again and back to square one we go. Its been 2 years, it takes time. And don't get me started on the "2 years?? its been 21 years!" .. no, it's been 2. You can't attribute the failings of 19 years on the current club make-up.

He has got absolutely nothing of value to add.

I probably naively thought the Sheedy faction was dead. To think he’d just cop it and walk off into the sunset was silly.

Honestly some of the stuff in that Slobbo article borders on parody. We need to be "feared and respected". The same stamping the foot tantrum stuff we've had for decades. What do they want to do, start swaggering about and acting tough? Demanding people take us seriously? It's the sort of Eric Cartman bully-brained stuff that you expect from an 11 year old watching too many loopy dark web videos, not a serious, modern day football club.

The thing that earns respect is premierships. The thing that makes you feared is being hard to play against and even harder to beat. There are no magic shortcuts or quick fixes to get there. It takes diligent work from every person in the club, coach to bootstrapper, captain to rookie. Looking for quick fixes is what put us in the wilderness since 2000.

Perhaps most damning on that front was the promise to be a one term director as "if we've not won a premiership in 3 years" he's not done his job. What a joke. As if all you need to win a premiership is a sufficiently loud and brash board member. Anyone who votes for this bozo has genuine rocks in their head.

All I'm picturing is:

"Ok we gotta turn this club around, no one fears us, no one respects us, its time to change that!"

"And how are you going to change that?"

"By being on the board!"

"And doing what?"

"Making sure that people fear us and respect us!"

"Ok, and how are you going to do that?"

"Be being on the board!"

repeat until the heat-death of the universe

I read this as a Clarke & Dawe piece and it’s perfect

Sheedy/dodo/hird faction trying to get the power back through solly and Weston.

Big No from me. We gave them 15-20 years.

Barnham, rosa and Scott at least get 3 years of clear air. I like our current approach.

Dodo gone- tick
Sheedy off the board - tick
Rosa initial list moves - tick
Hird talk finally quietening down - tick
Scott - ? But i Give a tick to the game day just selection is my concern

I'm super confident if we just be patient, results will come within 3 years.
