Tom Morris, 9 News via Fox Sports:

“A major board challenge is imminent at Essendon. In the wake of an off-season of turmoil, key powerbrokers - including at least one former player - are preparing a movement which would oust David Barham as president, and other directors too,” he said on Nine News.

“I’ve spoken to one of the key powerbrokers tonight, who says this is not coterie-driven, and it’s just a manner of when and not if the challenge takes place.

“There’s a view the club has been left rudderless and the Barham era has left a legacy of division, instability, player drainage and lost opportunity from this group of people.”

Paul Weston is still living in the 80s by the sounds of it. If he had it his way he’d still have the players working full time jobs. He had an absolute ‘mare in the interview.
Because there's no way Stringer could have kicked 42 goals unless he was the finely tuned "professional" player that he is?

what on earth makes you think that. he already applied once.
And was rejected. And his first tenure ended in disaster for him and the club. Apart from sitting in the GWS coaches box a few times and allegedly applying the second time, has he ever shown much interest in coaching again?

I voted Barham. Thought he sounded too arrogant about us on radio yesterday but we seem more professional now in planning for the future. Can’t blow it up already. Weston really should just stick to attending reunions, he was embarrassingly bad the other day

is there a link to the full interview?

I loved Paul as a player. Thought he envisaged everything Sheedy's team was about back in the mid 80's. He'll always be a premiership legend to me and I'm sure to many others, but that interview was.........less than impressive.

A mess of contradictions. Banging on about things that are already being addressed. Talking about club stability whilst ultimately attempting to destabilise the current direction of the club. There is zero reason to vote Paul onto the board if that explanation was anything to go by.

Spot on, Runk.
Why has he waited until now (where we actually seem to have some sort of vestige of a plan) vs a few years ago when we were absolutely fking rudderless and everyone - bar those at the the club - could see it.

And I also loved Weston the player.

So is Weston speaking for himself or on behalf of others?
Do these kinds of things impact the players?
If it doesn't affect the players I'm on Weston's side a bit. I don't want blue-collar I want redneck

This looks to me like a last gasp attempt by the old boys to hold on to the club. The club has been wrenched from their grasp and they know it. The only concern is that a large proportion of supporter/members might not understand what a massive achievement that is.

What qualification - in your opinion - does Weston have for sitting on a board of directors for an organisation generating ~ $78.9m in revenue per annum?

I don't really see how former premiership player counts as a qualification for being a director on the board.

Think about all the players who have played in premierships in the entire league over the last 20 years and think how many of those you'd actually want making decisions based on something other than split-second highly trained instincts on who to handball to. Yikes.

Maybe 2% of them are actually suitable for it.

Bomber Thompson should put his hand up. Even with his drug problem and run ins with the police he's still a better candidate than Weston/Sheedy/etc.

is it similar to the AFL / premiership player = great coach?

Ken for all his short comings is doing a pretty damn reasonable job. Alistair Clarkson play in flags?

I voted Weston and Solomon.

Alistair Clarkson was in the right place at the right time to coach some flags at state level before he got tanking-for-picks Hawthorn right before the expansion years. I don't think he had even a remotely notable playing career though.

As a former reigning poster of the year I find this mildly humorous if not srs.
As the boards current reigning poster of the year I 100% did it because I want Hird to come back and either succeed or fail so the noise ends.
