Tom Morris, 9 News via Fox Sports:

“A major board challenge is imminent at Essendon. In the wake of an off-season of turmoil, key powerbrokers - including at least one former player - are preparing a movement which would oust David Barham as president, and other directors too,” he said on Nine News.

“I’ve spoken to one of the key powerbrokers tonight, who says this is not coterie-driven, and it’s just a manner of when and not if the challenge takes place.

“There’s a view the club has been left rudderless and the Barham era has left a legacy of division, instability, player drainage and lost opportunity from this group of people.”

Bomber Thompson should put his hand up. Even with his drug problem and run ins with the police he's still a better candidate than Weston/Sheedy/etc.
Imagine the end of year Xmas parties if he was in charge!! :p

But on a serious note I do agree with you in that Bomber understands what footballing success in the modern era looks like.
Weston is a glorified Salesman and is there to only further entrench the problems that have plagued this club for 2 decades.

Alistair Clarkson was in the right place at the right time to coach some flags at state level before he got tanking-for-picks Hawthorn right before the expansion years. I don't think he had even a remotely notable playing career though.
Played 1 final for 1 loss.

what a bumbling train wreck. that was a hard listen
Listening to it makes me want to be productive at work so I guess that's a plus. Not because he's motivational but because I get about a minute into the actual interview (after the 45 seconds of ads) and the best excuse I can come up with to turn it off is to do work. :\

As the boards current reigning poster of the year I 100% did it because I want Hird to come back and either succeed or fail so the noise ends.
finally, a reigning poster of the year I can get behind!

Agree with the sentiment but I doubt the noise will ever end. If he tries and fails again more excuses will be made and there'll be another attempt later.

The best way to end the noise is probably for coterie types to lose respect for Sheedy, which unfortunately would probably require significant health issues for the old fella.

I actually didn't know who he was.

Maybe Sheeds is getting hung up on by a few better known players/
Same.

2000 premiership team:

B:1 Mark Johnson31 Dustin Fletcher6 Sean Wellman
HB:11 Damien Hardwick21 Dean Wallis7 Dean Solomon
C:26 Chris Heffernan24 Joe Misiti33 Blake Caracella
HF:2 Mark Mercuri25 Scott Lucas5 James Hird(c)
F:9 Adam Ramanauskas18 Matthew Lloyd13 Michael Long
Foll:22 John Barnes32 Justin Blumfield14 Jason Johnson
Int:8 Darren Bewick16 Paul Barnard27 Steven Alessio
29 Gary Moorcroft
Coach:Kevin Sheedy

Looking at that list idk who would even be available. Wellman, Hird, Lucas, Lloyd, Long, Caracella, Ramanauskas, Hardwick, Solomon all still have pretty solid post-playing careers as coaches, player managers, in the media etc, and are probably recognisable names for those who were too young to remember much of their playing careers. Wellman has had his shot on the board and resigned, Solomon has his hand up, and I can't imagine the rest of them even contemplating it.

1993:

B:4 Gavin Wanganeen31 Dustin Fletcher21 Dean Wallis
HB:29 David Grenvold1 Mark Harvey26 Mark Thompson(c)
C:47 Rick Olarenshaw38 Sean Denham11 Paul Hills
HF:2 Mark Mercuri5 James Hird24 Joe Misiti
F:32 Tim Watson3 Paul Salmon13 Michael Long
Foll:19 Peter Somerville10 Gary O'Donnell8 Darren Bewick
Int:7 Chris Daniher48 David Calthorpe
Coach:Kevin Sheedy

Can just imagine GO'D on the board 🤣

I think I'd like Tim or Jobe Watson on the board. Having a poster child for everything that went wrong in that era (or his dad) would probably put an end to a lot of the nonsense.

As a supporter whose seen zero success and is confident in the current administration since pretty much ever.

I am not sure if i can sit and continue to eat shit from the old regime if they get back in i am 6 years away from 30 i would like some success and stability before then.

Not really. It is a 100% ploy to try and remove Barham by voting him out. What happens next depends on 2025. Are you saying that with Barham gone and two new board members in the Hird camp that if we do not play finals Scott will still be safe ? The pressure will be enormous to get Hird in as coach after he spends a year at Port Melbourne working on fine tuning his skillset. It is not jumping at shadows. If Barham does not get back in it is a real possibility. Of course if Barham gets the votes then it is done and dusted before it began.
I have a few sources telling me it is 100% what their plan is. Problem for them will be I suspect Barham will keep his spot and it will be line ball between Solly and Verner Green. Solly will support the current board but you can almost guarantee that he would be in a Welsh / Weston camp with Sheedy behind the scenes with Barham out of the way.
There is still plenty of coterie support for Hird as coach.
Let’s say Port win the VFL flag and Essendon fade out to 13th

Imagine the heat

I'm 28 and didn't really get deep into footy until I was about 10 or 11, I have precisely two memories of Essendon experiencing success -
1. Asking my dad who was on top of the ladder around 2000 or 2001 and him saying we were
2. Watching the 2003 EF against Freo on a CRT monitor that depicted every colour as a different hue of green

Everything else is some measure of failure, or even worse a false dawn in which the great wins are sullied by the knowledge of the abyss that would follow soon after.

I still hold out impatiently to see us win something, but deep down I know it probably won't be as gratifying as if I got to experience it as a kid or teenager. Or who knows, maybe I'll get absolutely plastered and it'll be the best day of my life...

Either way, I think the twenty-something year old Bombers supporters in a way have it the worst. Cursed to follow the least successful club of our generation.

Anyway, I think our current administration is the best foundation we've laid for success in my whole time watching footy. I'm not sold it's going to work out, but I'm trusting the process right now. Chucking out Barham is going back to square 1, make no mistake. We might need to go there in 3 years time, but for now I think it's definitely in our best interest to give this build a shot.
